NSFA Scholarships

By Nassau Fishing Club

One of the missions of the Nassau Sport Fishing Association is to help support the community in Nassau County, Florida. Helping local high school seniors attend college is one of the ways NSFA provides community support.

The primary fundraiser for these scholarships is the annual Kingfish Tournament and Fishing Rodeo, which is held every August. The club also runs a food booth at the annual Isle of Eight Flags Shrimp Festival in Fernandina Beach the first weekend of May.

Any graduating high school senior residing in Nassau County can apply for an NSFA scholarship. Applications need to include high school GPA and accomplishments, an essay, references, and evidence of financial need.

Many years ago, NSFA started with a scholarship of $1,000 given to one local student. Recognizing the rising cost of college and the burden of student debt, by 2017 the club was providing a total of $6,000 to three students.

This year, a total of $18,000 in scholarships will be awarded, making the NSFA one of the largest sources of scholarships in Nassau County. Three students will receive an NSFA scholarship of $4,000. In addition, three merit scholarships for $2,000 will be awarded, funded by donations from individual members with matching funds from the club.
