HERE FISHY FISHY
By: Beth Steele
The Keys fishing spots have been on fire even in the last couple of cold months. Key West has had some really great flats fishing when captains have ventured out. Sugarloaf Key Islands has been hot for backcountry fishing and or course Islamorada deep dropping and swordfishing on the days the seas have been nice and calm. One of the best things about The Keys is there is always a bit of everything to fish for. Along the reef is always a great location for snappers, groupers, mackeral and cobia.
The Keys strip of tropical islands has the most gorgeous beaches and amazing wildlife. That’s what makes this area such a great place for the avid angler. You will never catch a more beautiful sunrise or sunset like you will in the Florida Keys.
Some people say I love to fish, but they don’t realize I actually live to fish. Even though it’s a ton of work and can be exhausting on the days when you reel in a big one, it’s the most freeing thing I’ve experienced. Since the day I’ve started, I’ve never stopped learning. The more I fish, the better I get at learning the fish…where to find them, their habits, what bait works best. One important thing is to watch the weather. Not only for your own safety, but that will give you a clue on what you might be reeling in. It can be beneficial to check fishing guides for the best fish to catch during the seasons, as well the best time to catch certain fish.
I recently got my boat serviced, and while it’s not the cheapest thing about fishing, it’s so important. The peace of mind about riding out on a well-serviced boat isn’t something I ever take lightly.
One of the things that excites me the most about fishing is the big swordfish catches and deep dropping. On my last trip, I caught another big one and released 3 small ones. With deep dropping, you really never know what’s below you and the excitement of seeing them come to the surface is just as exciting as my very first catch.
It’s been a great few months with my online charter booking company Hooker Booker. We’ve had so many great captains join our team and we are excited about what’s to come in the following months. We’re always welcoming qualified captains to list their charters with us and we’re currently filling up our booking for the next few months. If you or someone you know are looking for a charter, head over to www.HookerBooker.com and we will help you out!
