As I write this we in Saskatoon are going thru our first winter storm. The weather channel says it goes from Churchill, Manitoba all the way to Texas. It is a quick reminder that Winter is coming fast. Make sure both you and your truck are ready for it.

I would like to start by wishing all our readers a very Merry Christmas. It seems a bit early for such thoughts but our next issue is in January 2011.

The economy is still slowly on the upswing. Trucking companies are hiring drivers, and trucks that have been parked by the back fence are being cleaned out and put back on the road. I visited with a number of Companies on my drive West in October and everyone appeared to be busy.

The Saskatchewan Division of The World’s Largest Convoy for Special Olympics was on Sept 25 this year. The convoy started at Saskatoon and went to the Sears Yard in Regina for the windup luncheon and awards presentations. We had a number of trucks and trailers join us in Chamberlain to complete the run.

The lead truck in the Convoy is decided by whoever gets the most pledges for the day. Maximum Training won the honors this year by raising almost $10,000.00.

The driver that accomplished this feat was John Milburn.

Riding with him in the lead truck this year was Amee Harrison from Saskatoon. She is a Special Olympics athlete. She has been involved as a competitor with the Special Olympics for 16 years and has won a very impressive collection of medals.

Amee joined the Special Olympics because she wants to be part of a group and she feels running is something very positive as it helps her to achieve her personal best each time. She used to go bowling but now her interests are in Athletics. She also likes to watch movies, read, and do scrapbooking. She says her Mom is her role model and she depends on her to help others understand.

Amee goes on to say that Special Olympics has been lots of fun—being in the Progress Club Fashion Show to raise money for Special Olympics and the Truck Convoy and riding with Dad. She enjoyed watching the torch run and doing Athlete’s Speakers Bureau too. It has given her chances to do more that just sports.
