DESERT LAKES GOLF COURSE PAGE 6
‘Southern New Mexico’s Best Kept Secret...
...where you are never in the rough!’ Enjoy year-round golf — at a quality public facility located at the base of the Sacramento Mountain range with summer highs in the 90”s and moderate winter temperatures.
The Course — features four sets of tees catering to all levels of play. The
front nine is a tree lined, parkland-style layout while the back ‘desert nine’ is cut out of the southern New Mexico desert—both nines feature large greens with subtle undulations which makes for a unique coupling of contrast and consistency. Numerous water hazards come into play on eleven of the eighteen holes. All together, Desert Lakes is a challenging yet interesting course.

What is the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)? RSVP encourages Otero County residents age 55 and older to use their time, talents and life-long experience to improve their community’s critical needs. Volunteers can choose from over 70 work sites throughout Otero County, with a multitude of job opportunities and the choice of how much time to donate. The purpose of RSVP is to respond to the unmet human, educational, environmental and public safety needs of our community through non-profit, faith-based and governmental organizations. A primary part of our mission is to educate our community on the valuable services that RSVP provides and to give our volunteers the recognition they so richly deserve. Along with the satisfaction of helping their community, volunteers receive many benefits such as supplemental insurance and mileage reimbursement. RSVP EXAMPLES: volunteers help at the Alamo Senior Center in the dining room, kitchen and in the Wellness Center. They help the community recover from natural disasters, serve as museum tour guides and deliver meals to seniors who are homebound, all of which helps to conserve on wages spent in the county.
What is the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP)?
The FGP mission is to encourage Otero County senior citizens aged 55 and older to serve in the classroom working with students as tutors and mentors. Volunteers will develop a supportive intergenerational relationship that will enable these students to achieve their educational and personal goals. The program office staff will provide the training, encouragement and support that the volunteers need in order to carry out their program duties and to achieve their own personal goals. The strength of our community is our volunteer’s involvement, love and care for their community.
What is the Senior Companion Program (SCP)?
SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAMS
‘Please call 575-439-4154 for more info or to Volunteer’’
The SCP mission is to encourage Otero County senior citizens aged 55 and older to serve as senior companion volunteers for homebound frail elderly and seniors. SCP volunteers will work with homebound clients to enable them to maintain their independence in their own homes longer and to have better quality of life. Our program office staff will provide the training, encouragement and support that the senior companion volunteers need in order to carry out program duties and achieve their own personal goals. 2201 Puerto Rico Avenue
