RAM Technologies Expands Foam & Fabric Engineering to Tijuana with New Facility A Discussion with Kreston Welch, Director of Sales, RAM Technologies
WHY RAM TECHNOLOGIES CHOSE TIJUANA Reducing Overhead and Increasing Proximity to Partners “Adding a facility in Mexico will more than double our capacity and put us geographically close to some of our best partners, while lowering our overhead costs and increasing our visibility to other manufacturers” One of RAM’s largest clients, DJO Global, is also located in Tijuana. The proximity of the new facility will dramatically reduce shipping fees, provide daily deliveries and lower their overall parts cost. DJO Global, also used CPI to establish their operations in Mexico, is a top medical device manufacturer reporting 1Q 2013 net sales of $279.1M USD. In terms of labor cost compared to other offshore and nearshore locations, RAM Technologies made a sound business decision in selecting Tijuana. Over the last 10 years China has consistently increased its hourly wages while Mexico has remained relatively flat attracting direct foreign investment like RAM.
AT THE HEART OF AN INDUSTRY N. America’s Largest Concentration of Medical Device Manufacturing “Since many of our best customers manufacture in Baja, it only made sense that we add a local facility close to them to deliver quickly and painlessly. “ RAM Technologies joins over 65 companies and a 35,000+ strong workforce in Baja California’s medical device sector with an estimated value of $3.4B USD. With the largest concentration not only in Mexico but in North America as well, RAM has also positioned itself within miles of San Diego’s booming medical industry. Co-Production International has assisted many major medical device companies establish and expand operations to Mexico, including the US market giants Teledyne Medical and DJO Global.
A NEW FACILITY & A NEW CONNECTION Tijuana’s Certified Facilities and RAM’s New Facility “The reason for choosing Thomas Alba Edison Industrial Park (TAE) includes the accessibility and proximity to our customer, the desire to be in a newly constructed facility and to be the anchor of a new industrial park. Eduardo Rojo’s experience and ability to connect with others has already proven to be an asset for RAM and our desire to find discerning clients to value mutually beneficial partnerships in Mexico. “
Connecting companies like RAM Technologies with the brand new TAE Industrial Park, is part of what makes CPI ideal for new ventures in Mexico. CPI along with Eduardo Rojo, Director of TAE Park, capitalized on their experience to design a space that is optimal for RAM’s needs. RAM will now be the anchor company at one of Tijuana’s highest class and newest industrial facilities. A majority of Tijuana’s facilities carry all the necessary internationally recognized standards and accreditations such as ISO9001 and FDA Class A clean rooms.
