Tyra Gibson, No. 10 Freshman • Guard • 5’9” • Sunset, Louisiana High School Coach: Melanie Durio Parents: Wayne and Paula Gibson Tyra Gibson, a graduate of Beau Chene High School, averaged 17.4 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.4 steals per game for the Lady Gators. She was selected Honorable Mention LWSA 4A All-State after a senior season during which she led her team to a 20-11 record and the second round of the LHSAA State Playoffs. Gibson was selected to play in the 2012 LHSCA All-Star Game.

Kierra (KeKe) Collins, No. 11

Kierra (KeKe) Collins, a graduate of Franklin County High School, averaged 13.7 points, 3.9 assists and 3.2 steals per game for the Lady Bulldogs. She was selected to the All-District Team and The Daily Leader’s All-Area Team. Collins played in the Mississippi/Alabama Game.

Collins played in 23 games averaging 3.1 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game as a freshman for the Lady Wolves.

Keyana Miller, No. 12 Freshman • Guard • 5’5” • Natchez, Mississippi High School Coach: Alphaka Moore Parents: Shawn Miller and Kay Abraham Keyana Miller, a graduate of Natchez High School, averaged 16.2 points, 3.1 steals, 3.2 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game for the Lady Bulldogs. She was selected to The Natchez Democrat’s All-Area Team and to the Region 6-6A All-Region Team. Miller was selected to play in the 2012 MAC All-Star Game.

Ashley Minor, a graduate of Natchez High School, averaged 16.5 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.1 steals, and 3.4 assists for the Lady Bulldogs.

She was selected All-District and was The Natchez Democrat’s All-Metro Player of the Year.

Minor played in 21 games averaging 4.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game as a freshman for the Lady Wolves.

Claresa Banks, No. 14 Freshman • Guard • 5’9” • Jackson, Mississippi High School Coach: Tangela Banks Parents: Clarence Atkinson and Angela Banks Claresa Banks, a graduate of Forest Hill High School, averaged 17.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game for the Lady Patriots.

She was twice named First Team All-Metro by The Clarion-Ledger and helped lead her team to back-to-back 6A State Champiponships. Banks was selected to play in the 2012 MAC All-Star Game and in the 2013 Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game.

Jessica Wilson, No. 15

Sophomore • Forward • 6’0” • Hattiesburg, Mississippi High School Coach: Coronica Debose-Jackson Parents: Gerald and Juanita Wilson Jessica Wilson, a graduate of Hattiesburg High School, averaged 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game points for the Lady Tigers. As a senior, Wilson helped the Lady Tigers to the MHSAA 6A Championship Game. She was selected Honorable Mention All-State and All-District.

Wilson played in 26 games averaging 8.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game for the Lady Wolves.

Kentija Tarleton, No. 20 Freshman • Guard • 5’7” • Port Gibson, Mississippi High School Coach: Harold Liggins Parents: Kenneth Tarleton and Lorria Mays Kentija Tarleton, a graduate of Port Gibsonb High School, averaged 16.2 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.9 steals, and 1.1 assist per game for the Blue Wave. She led Port Gibson to a 23-4 record and a second round appearance in the MHSAA 4A State Playoffs. Tarleton was selected AllDistrict.

Brittany McDuffey, No. 21 Freshman • Guard/Forward • 5’8” • Monticello, Mississippi High School Coach: Vicki Rutland Parents: Robert and Virginia McDuffey Brittany McDuffey, a graduate of Lawrence County High School, averaged 12.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. As a senior, McDuffey was selected All-District and led Lawrence County to the MHSAA 4A State Playoffs.

Caroline Lumpkin, No. 23 Freshman • Guard/Forward • 5’9” • Carriere, Mississippi High School Coach: Kayla Inabinett Parents: Adrian and Shannon Lumpkin Caroline Lumpkin, a graduate of Pearl River Central High School, averaged 18.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game for the Lady Blue Devils. As a senior, Lumpkin was named All-District and was chosen as Offensive MVP of Region 8-5A.

Freshman • Forward • 5’10” • Monroe, Louisiana High School Coach: Lori Guimbellot Parents: Edward Smith and Katina Newton Allison Newton, a graduate of Neville High School, averaged 21.2 points. 7.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 2.4 steals per game fo the Lady Tigers. As a senior, Newton was an All-District selection and led her team to a 25-4 record and an appearance in the LHSAA State Playoffs.

Tyrisha Patterson, No. 33 Sophomore • Forward • 5’10” • Wesson, Mississippi High School Coach: Billy Vaughn Parents: Anthony and Toya Humphrey Tyrisha Patterson, a graduate of Loyd Star High School, averaged 22.5 points, 14.5 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game for the Lady Hornets. As a senior, Patterson was selected All-District and The Daily Leader’s AllLincoln County Team.

Patterson played in 22 games averaging 1.7 points and 2 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Lady Wolves.

Lady Wolves win 2013 MACJC State Championship POPLARVILLE - The Co-Lin Lady Wolves overcame poor first half shooting to take a 64-46 win over the Northeast Mississippi Lady Tigers in the championship game of the MACJC State Basketball Tournament in Poplarville. The win gives the Lady Wolves their second state championship in the last three years and it’s Co-Lin Head Coach Gwyn Young’s seventh state title in his illustrious 37 year coaching career.

“Offensively, the first half was really ugly,” said Young. “I thought we played well enough defensively and were fortunate to be up by eight at the half. I knew that if we could score, that our press could cause some turnovers. Toward the end (of the game) we had a little offensively momentum and our defense was able to take advantage and that was the difference.”

Northeast (14-11), No. 3 seed from the North, took an early 6-0 lead. The Lady Wolves, the South No. 1 seed, would finally get on the scoreboard at the 15:54 mark when Vintrice Briggs hit a pair of free throws.

Freshman T’Keya Moore hit a pair of free throws to give the Lady Wolves their first lead at 11-10.

Northeast out shot Co-Lin from the floor 27 percent (6of-22) to 22 percent (7-of-32) in the first half, but the Lady Wolves held a 28-20 at halftime lead.

At the start of the second half, Co-Lin saw their 8-point halftime lead evaporate as the Lady Tigers went on a 7-1 run to close the gap to 29-27 with 13:41 left to play. The Lady Wolves found their rhythm and went on an 11-4 run of their own to increase their lead to 40-31 at the 9:44 mark.

With 5:26 remaining, Latonya Gadison’s old-fashioned 3-point play capped a 12-6 Northeast run to pull the Lady Tigers to 46-43. But back-to-back baskets by Briggs and a basket and a pair of free throws by Moore pushed the Lady Wolves

lead to 55-45 with 3:04 left in the game. Co-Lin’s pressure defense caused Northeast turnovers as the Lady Wolves went on a 9-1 run in the last 3 minutes of the game.

The game was a lot closer than the scored indicated. CoLin shot 42 percent (10-of-24) from the field in the second half and finished the game 17-of-56 (30 percent). Northeast was 6-of-28 from the field in the second half and finished 12of-50 (24 percent).

The Lady Tigers out rebounded Co-Lin 49-39. The Lady Wolves defense caused Northeast to commit 24 turnovers.

Co-Lin held the advantage at the free throw line hitting 28-of40 (70 percent) to the Lady Tigers 19-of-31 (61 percent). The Co-Lin’s bench play, which has been a key to their success all season, came up big again as they out scored Northeast 33-10 Moore, a 5-8 freshman from Minden, LA, came off the bench to lead the Lady Wolves with a game-high 20 points.

“We all work together and we have good chemistry,” said Moore. “My teammates motivated me tonight.”

Briggs, still bothered by an ankle injury, played through some pain and chipped in 13 points.

“It feels good to win this championship,” said Briggs, a 5-8 sophomore from Roxie. “We worked hard all year long to get here. The next step is to win the regional.”

Freshman guard Ashley Minor came off the bench and scored 8 points, made 7 steals and dished out 4 assists. Jessica Wilson led off the backboards with 8 rebounds. Tiffany Sims and Jessica Jackson pulled down 6 rebounds apiece.

For Northeast, Gadison was the only player in double figures with 14 points. Antoinette Riddle, Angelia Allen, and Talisa Boyd had 7 rebounds apiece.

As a senior, Davis helped lead the Red Devils to a 29.4 record and the LHSAA 2A State Quarterfinals.

As a senior, Lumpkins helped lead the Crusaders to a 28-7 recored and the LHSAA 5A State Quarterfinals.

Robert Johnson, Jr., No. 15 Sophomore • Guard • 5’7” • Byram, Mississippi High School: Hillcrest Christian School Parents: Robert and Jennifer Johnson Robert Johnson, a graduate of Hillcrest Christian School, averaged 14.3 points and 4.5 assists per game for the Cougars. His senior season the Cougars finished with a record of 30-7 and were finalists in the MAIS AAA State Tournament.

Johnson played in 19 games averaging 1.2 points per game as a freshman for the Wolves.

Terrence James, No. 21 Sophomore • Forward • 6’4” • Jackson, Mississippi High School Coach: Thomas Billups Parents: Eddie and Cassandra James Terrence James, a graduate of Lanier High School, averaged 8.3 points and 7.5 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs. As a senior, James helped lead the Bulldogs to a 22-9 record and the MHSAA 4A State Playoffs.

His sophomore year, James was a part of a Lanier team that won the 4A State Championship.

Ricky Kelly, a graduate of St. Martin High School, averaged 15.2 points and 3.9 rebounds per game for the Yellow Jackets. As a senior, Kelly helped his team to a 21-10 and made an appearance in the 6A South State playoffs.

James played in 22 games averaging 8.4 points and 5.7 rebounds per game as a freshman for the Wolves.
