DICK’S HOUSE OF SPORT GRANT

On June 18th, Joe, Alan and Don Zorn were invited to attend the annual Dick’s Sporting Goods Open Pro-Am draw party. They were asked to talk about what last years $5,000 grant meant to our PGA Jr. League team at Sunnycrest , what we used the dollars for and what we are planning to do next! Joe mentioned to the audience that we used those funds to provide golf clubs for the kids on the team, provide instruction to the kids , gain them access to the golf course at Sunnycrest , along with providing them a free registration to be on the jr league team.

At the conclusion of Joe’s speech, the PGA REACH CNY team was presented with a pleasant surprise , as the team from Dick’s foundation awarded us with an additional $10,000 to PGA REACH CNY!

We shared some photos below with the check and we have already begun the conversations with what we are going to do next. We are in process currently of building out a PGA camp in the summer of 2025 at Sunnycrest with the goal to introduce more juniors to the game of golf from underrepresented demographics. Our plan is to funnel those kids at the camp to our jr. league team and then hopefully to our Junior Tour. All of this is made possible because of this generous grant from the Dick’s Foundation and largely in part to Ryan Evans , PGA for introducing PGA REACH CNY & the Dick’s Foundation last year!

MENS AIM

With a 3-under-par 68 at the Bellevue Country Club, John Duthie cruised to the Apogee Management Investment Championship presented by DeFrancisco and Falgiatano, winning by 10 strokes over defending champion Johnny Gruninger. Duthie, of Lansing, distanced himself from the field over the last 36 holes and in the process set a tournament record for the lowest four-round score with a 9-under 276. His 72-hole total of 276 broke the AIM record of 279 shared by Dr. Alan Foster (1986), Jeremy Sisson (2019, 2021) and Alec Bard (2020).

SENIOR AIM

Luke Hobika claimed his second straight Apogee Investment Management Senior title with a two-stroke victory over Kevin VandenBerg on June 21. Hobika went wire-to-wire with three consecutive rounds of 70 and finished at four-under-par 210 for the tournament. The three-round AIM Senior Championship was held at Drumlins Country Club, Tuscarora Golf Club and concluded at Beaver Meadows Golf Club. “It’s always satisfying to defend your title,” the 56-year-old Hobika said. “I was under extreme pressure today and am proud of the way I’ve battled. To beat a player of Kevin’s caliber when he is playing well, is most satisfying.”
