NEW POSITION UPDATE

Here we are, back to it It's the start again, stop again season opener One day it's warm and sunny and the next it's snowing Not sure where the winter went or if it even came I'm hopeful however that you were able to re-energize a bit and are in good spirits for the upcoming season.

I'd like to take a moment to personally congratulate Brittany and Andy Wowelko and welcome Charlie, their newly born baby boy to the CNY PGA family. We are all elated for them and are looking forward to getting the little guy out on the golf course.

It's important for everyone to be aware of some upcoming changes this year on the staffing front. Brittany will be on leave until July 1st and when she returns, she's going to finish out the year in her current role and then focus her attention on marketing and communications come January 1, 2025 Hopefully you saw the announcement that we moved Joe over to the foundation side of the business beginning the second quarter of this year If you have tournament-related questions, please be sure to reach out to Dylan Dylan will also handle all junior golf related questions until Brittany's return

Because of these changes we have gone ahead and hired two new interns for the upcoming season. Both will officially begin mid-May and stay with us through August. Please join me in welcoming Sophia Ferris and Ian Delpha. Sophia is a Junior at SUNY Cortland and Ian is a Freshman at SUNY Geneseo. Both played high school golf at Jamesville-Dewitt and both are eager to help provide all of you with the services which you have become accustomed to.

Joe and I are in the process of selecting a WORKS Fellow. We received strong interest and have over 30 resumes from interested candidates We'll be interviewing this month in hopes of bringing someone on board beginning June 1st This position is funded through a PGA of America grant that the section will receive on a yearly basis moving forward

Growth of the game programming, junior golf and player development remain integral to our future success. Next year we will be adding an additional full-time team member to oversee the CNY PGA Junior Tour, Drive Chip & Putt Qualifiers, Junior League Golf, Women's Association and CNY PGA Players Card. If you know someone or are interested in learning more about this future opportunity, please reach out to me and be on the lookout for the job posting this fall.

CNY PGA RECEIVES WORKS FELLOW GRANT

This is truly an exciting time for the Central New York PGA and PGA REACH CNY. We now have an opportunity to grow our foundation staff and our outreach within the local community thanks to the WORKS fellowship program. This is an annual grant that we've been selected for in perpetuity. Having someone in a full-time capacity executing our outreach programs and initiatives will have a tremendous impact on what we are trying to do when it comes to creating more diversity and inclusion, our development of junior golfers and our ability to help our veterans. We fully expect that all of our WORKS fellowships will have jobs within the industry and become an integral part of the game and business of golf here in Central New York for many years.

The CNY PGA is now accepting nominations for the Hall of Fame

A PGA Member in good standing can nominate (1) PGA Member in good standing If you would like to nominate a fellow member for this prestigous award, please send a letter or email to the section office with an explanation for consideration The Hall of Fame Chairperson will be notified of all nominations to begin the process after the deadline. Nomination deadline is July 26, 2024

A BIG thank you to the 26 facilities that participated in 2023 which included (3) new clubs coming on board! This program supports multiple Junior Tours, Drive, Chip & Putt, and PGA Jr. League. Your contribution is key to the success of these programs as we continue to grow the game of golf in Central New York. Stay tuned for the 2024 Member Club Program in the near future.

The spring meeting of the membership will be held on April 15th, 2024 at 9am. Please be sure to mark you calendar and join us at Turning Stone Resort Casino to kick off the season!

PGA JR. LEAGUE

Coach’s registration is open for summer teams! The deadline to register and participate in a multi-facility league is April 15th! Please reach out with any interest or questions you may have about starting your team or getting ready to begin your season!

Remember by being a coach of a Jr. League golf team you can earn 75 deferred comp points or 125 points if you have a full league of your own (24 players)!

SECTION & NATION SCHOLARSHIPS

Our Scholarship Program was created with the purpose to encourage higher education goals for the children and grandchildren of Central New York PGA Members who have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement during high school or college.

We would like to congratulate Catherine Dadey and Sophia Ferris for winning the scholarship for this past academic year.
