or 17 days, Reshma Begum survived under heaps of rubble after an eightstory garment factory collapsed in Bangladesh eight years ago. A few years earlier, Darlene Etienne held on for 15 days before rescuers in Haiti found her, thirsty and near death, in a house crumpled by an earthquake.

Stories of endurance and survival under the direst circumstances continue to kindle hopes that rescuers may find more people alive within the tons of debris that was once the 12-story Champlain Towers South condo tower near Miami.

The search stretched into a seventh day Wednesday, with more than 900 workers from 50 federal, state and local agencies working on the effort. At least 18 people are confirmed dead and more than 140 still unaccounted for.

“No one is giving up hope here,” Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett proclaimed.

Jamaican Actor Marcos James Lands Major Role Opposite Vivica Fox

“

Jamaican-born actor Marcos James, best known for his performance as White Rat in HBO's Emmy Awardwinning series Game of Thrones, will appear in a major role in the Lifetime Movie Network (LMN) movie series 'Keeping Up With The Joneses', beginning in July. The production is executive produced by actress Vivica A. Fox, who also appears in the leading role.

Described as LMN's first-ever movie series event, the trio of films will air on three consecutive Thursdays in July on LMN, beginning with the world premiere at 8pm ET on Thursday, July 8 to be followed by the subsequent films on July 15 and 22 at the same time.

According to production notes, in Keeping Up With The Joneses, Fox portrays the matriarch of the wealthy Jones family, who assumes control of the family business following the death of her husband. When the family and business come under threat, she and her four stepdaughters will stop at nothing to protect themselves and all that they own.

Marcos James plays the role of William French, the fiancé of Fox's stepdaughter Kayla Jones (Shellie Sterling, Snowfall). The production also features David Hector Jr, Ted McGinley, Arie Thompson, Ciarra Carter, Jasmine Aivaliotis, and Academy Award and Golden Globe nominee Eric Roberts (Runaway Train, The Dark Knight). The three-part movie series event is narrated by Kandi Burruss (The Chi, The Real Housewives of Atlanta).

Keeping Up With The Joneses marks another major milestone in the career of James, who migrated to the UK over 20 years ago.

James is a former student of Calabar High School and The University of the West Indies.

After finishing his university degree, James relocated to the United Kingdom to study film production at the University of Bristol. His ambition in undertaking this move was to seize more possibilities in pursuing the arts.

His early exposure to the arts began in Jamaica with Cathy Levy's Little People, Teen Players Club, The Ashe Company, The University Dance Society, and L'acadco.

However, he began honing his technique as an actor, singer, and dancer via Little People and

Ashe. His career received a major boost when he was cast in the West End production of Disney's The Lion King in London.

Subsequent stage appearances with some of the United Kingdom's most iconic theatres followed, including the leading role in Sadler Wells' The Mahabharata, as well as roles in Aida and Death In Venice with The Royal Opera.

Following his breakthrough performance as White Rat in the internationally acclaimed Game Of Thrones, other screen appearances included the TV series Escape The Night, the

UK Channel 5 docuseries Mummy Mysteries and the British film Reunion in which he appeared opposite renowned UK actor Ashley Walters (Bullet Boy, Top Boy).

According to James, who was personally chosen by Vivica A. Fox for his role, his character of William in Keeping Up With The Joneses is a definite change of pace from several roles he has played in the past.

“Many of the characters I've played before, in productions such as Game of Thrones and The Mahabharata were warriors in epic, otherworldly productions- men expressing strength along with hints of vulnerability. But while William in Keeping Up With The Joneses is just as complex, it was new and intriguing to navigate his ideas around life and success within a modern day context. Keeping Up With The Joneses is part of LMN's popular “WRONG” franchise, a series of movie dramas often dealing with mystery, romance, crime and betrayal.

CARIBBEAN St. Kitts and Nevis Government Extends State of Emergency until December 31 The St. Kitts-Nevis coalition government on Monday extended the state of emergency (SOE) by a further six months, with Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris telling Parliament it is a critical tool in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

The SOE was due to expire on July 7, but Harris said that it was being extended as part of his administration's efforts to protect the lives and livelihoods and contain the spread of the COVID-19 disease that has now resulted in the deaths of three people in the twin-island Federation.

He told legislators that the SOE provides a sound legal anchor for the promulgation of curfews in St. Kitts and Nevis that prohibit the movement of persons that can help halt the spread of the disease.

“If persons stay in shelter the probability of a COVID-19 spread is significantly and dramatically reduced Mr. Speaker, and this is what, in large measure, we are attempting to do now.

“I therefore want to reiterate my call for all persons in St. Kitts and Nevis to stay at home including their yard space and minimize contact with others outside of their household during the period of the lockdown.”

Harris said while his administration understands that the temporary measures being implemented in the fight against COVID-19 may inconvenience many “these measures are being brought for one reason and one reason only that is to save lives”.

The government has already announced a 24-hour lockdown as part of a slate of additional restrictive measures being taken to limit the movement of people, in an effort to stem the spread of COVID-19.

Guyana Implements Visa Requirements for Haitians Guyana has officially withdrawn the automatic six-month stay granted to Haitians on arrival in the country, revoking an earlier order that allowed nationals from Haiti to enter the country without a visa.

President Irfaan Ali revoked in its entirety, the January 2019 order by former president David Granger under which Haiti had been added to the list under the Immigration Act. Haiti, despite being a full member of CARICOM, has not always enjoyed free movement into member countries under the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME) that allows for the free movement of goods, skills, labour and services across the majority of the 15- member grouping.

The new Order is dated June 22, 2021, and in a letter dated June 23, to Minister of Aviation, Juan Edghill, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall said only Haitian diplomats would not require visas to enter Guyana.

He called on Edghill to advise the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority, all airlines and the chief executive officers of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and Eugene F. Correia International Airport of the new change for Haitian nationals.

Last weekend, the authorities announced that an investigation had been launched after 10 Haitian children were found in a hotel room in the Berbice region.

According to a government statement, the children, five boys and five girls, did not have in their possession passports or any other form of identification.

When questioned by police, one of the children said they were transported to Guyana from neighbouring Suriname by speed boat and were dropped off at the hotel on, June 14.

He said on a program, streamed live on his Facebook page on Tuesday night that Guyana would not be doing anything that other Caribbean countries have not done.

But the Opposition has accused the government of going against the principles of CARICOM by putting the visa requirement back in place.

Opposition Spokesperson on Foreign Relations, Amanza Walton-Disir said there must be a better plan to address concerns about people smuggling.

Antigua Announces Reduced Taxes for Intra-Regional Travel Antigua and Barbuda has announced a 50 percent reduction in taxes on airline tickets for travel within several countries of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM).

The government says the measure will last for six months in the first instance.

“We think at this time where regional travel is relatively low, extremely flat that there is very little to lose and even though it may not be the best condition which to analyze the elasticity of ticket prices, it will give us some indicative indication as to how a reduction in pricing would impact on demand without

creating a financial crisis, “Prime Minister Gaston Browne said.

“There is nothing to lose at this time, very little will oose as a result of cutting those taxes.

So in the case of Antigua and Barbuda, we have taken a decision to cut our regional airport taxes by 50 percent, effective Monday (June 28) and we will do so for six months to see how it impacts revenue and then to make a final determination going forward as to what percentage is sustainable, if it is 25, 40 or even the 50 percent,” he added.

Browne said that the matter had also been

discussed within the sub-regional Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) “probably about three weeks ago.”

Browne said that a reduction in taxes would assist the cash-strapped regional airline, LIAT, which has been placed under court-ordered administration.

“This will also help LIAT too especially if the OECS and Barbados could come together and agree on a travel bubble and to allow for fully vaccinated persons to move without quarantining. We think that will be a win-win for all of us.”

Should Transgender Athletes Be Allowed to Compete at the Olympics?

In less than a month, New Zealand weightlifter Laurel Hubbard will make history as the first the first transgender athlete to compete at an Olympic Games. Hubbard, 43, was confirmed last week as one of the country's athletes that will participate in the Tokyo Olympics, July 23 to August 8.

Her inclusion in the Olympics is as a result of changes to the International Olympic Committee transgender guidelines in 2015, under which athletes who transition from male to female can compete in the women's category as long as they maintain low testosterone levels.

Her inclusion has been welcomed by trans groups, it has also been questioned by those who believe she has unfair advantages in strength and power, having gone through male puberty before transitioning in 2012.

Amid the controversy, we asked South Florida residents if they think transgender athletes should be allowed to participate in the Olympic games. Here are the responses:

Hubbard

Brandon Johnson: I do not feel as though anyone from the transgender community should be able to compete in the Olympics or any other sport unless they're playing among themselves. Nine times out of ten a man is going to dominate in a competitive sport more than a woman. No matter the estrogen level or lowered testosterone level. A woman would have to be extremely dominant against other women to be deemed as okay against men.

Brittney Bethea: Yes they should be able to compete but they should only be able to compete with their burn gender. I disagree with them competing with their opposite gender because the playing field is unfair. It would be nice for the transgender community to one day establish their own Olympic Games to compete.

Thomas Everline: No. Because genetic fairness would not be achieved do to compensation of the situation's emotional state. Competition is a balance meant for the original state.

Trey Goodin: Depends. I think if they transition at a young age then hormones they take will have kicked in enough for them to be able to compete with their chosen gender. If they're older I'd say no because it would pose a disadvantage.

Elliot Harris: No they shouldn't. Create their own thing if what they should do but in a lot of these sports, it's presents an unfair advantage, especially for women.

Chad Wilson: I think they can as long as they're competing with their original gender. Just to make things fair.

The Games Must Go On Having been forced to postpone the Tokyo 2020 Olympics for a year due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Japanese Government are moving full speed ahead as they now enter the “delivery phase” of the Games.

There had not been a postponement in peacetime and having already exhausted significant resources, everyone concerned is aware that there is simply too much at stake for the Games not to go ahead in a country with a comparatively small virus outbreak, as less than 15,000 deaths have been recorded despite avoiding stringent lockdowns.

Besides in many ways the therapy the games will provide to participating nations and athletes emerging from COVID- 19, across the globe is priceless; And is sure to evoke national pride in all.

The year-long delay plus additional measures to combat the virus have added a tidy US$2.6 billion to an already gigantic budget of US$14.9 billion, which will make the Tokyo Olympics the most expensive Summer Games ever.

With that amount of money and scientific resources invested, there was simply no other choice but to host the Games, for the consequences would be too severe.

Clearly, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics will not be like when the Asian country hosted it in 1964. In fact, it will be like none other before.

But the Games must go on, as they will bring relief for many across the globe who would have been held prisoners in their own homes due to the onset of the pandemic.

The measures are in place, and we hope that all concerned play their part in making the Games safe and enjoyable.

Haiti Placed on Money Laundering Watch List Haiti was on Friday placed on a grey list of countries under increased monitoring to counter money laundering and terrorist financing. The other countries are Malta, the Philippines and South Sudan.

The Financial Action Task Force, an international organization that coordinates global efforts to crack down on money laundering and terrorism financing, said nations on the list are working with it to correct deficiencies in their financial systems.

The additions bring to 22 the number of countries currently under increased monitoring by the intergovernmental watchdog, which was created in 1989.

When the FATF places a jurisdiction under heightened surveillance, it means that the country is committed to quickly

resolving the “strategic shortcomings identified within the time list and may be subject to additional controls,” said a statement from the FATF. With the addition of these four countries, Malta becomes the only European nation on the list that is usually dominated

by African and Central American and Caribbean countries.

In October 2020, the FATF decided to recommence work, paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and to identify new countries with strategic AML/CFT deficiencies and prioritise the review of listed countries with expired or expiring deadlines of action plan items. The following countries had their progress reviewed by the FATF since February 2021: Albania, Barbados, Botswana, Cambodia, Cayman Islands, Ghana, Jamaica, Mauritius, Morocco, Myanmar, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Panama, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Following review, the FATF now also identifies Haiti, Malta, Philippines, and Moise South Sudan.

Date for Haiti's Constitutional Referendum Announced The Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) in Haiti has announced plans to stage the constitutional referendum as well as the legislative elections for the Senate and Deputy on Sunday September 26.

Earlier this month, Haiti had announced the postponement of the constitutional referendum that was originally scheduled for June 27.

The referendum has been criticised by the opposition parties and officials had blamed a significant increase in the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases as well as the renewal of the state of health emergency by the Executive on May 31.

The CEP had promised that a new calendar of referendum and electoral activities will be adopted and published by the council after the recommendations of the health authorities and the technical opinions of the executives of the electoral institution.

In its new calendar released on Monday, the constitutional referendum, which will be the first referendum in the country since 1987, will take place on September 26.

The referendum had been unilaterally proposed by the Jovenel Moïse with the head of state indicating that the referendum was necessary as the government moves to reform the constitution.

The CEP in its modified schedule of its activities over the coming months, said that political parties will have until July 6 to register for the legislative elections. It said that the electoral campaign for the first round should start on August 26.

The municipal and local elections will take place on January 16, 2022. According to the new calendar, the electoral process will end on February 5, 2022, the date of the publication of the final results of the municipal and local elections.

In addition, the CEP said that it is working to finalize the draft electoral decree to govern the next set of elections.

It said also that in order to deal with the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a guide to specific health measures, intended for the use of voters, will be developed and adopted in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health.

Expect Another COVID-19 Spike This Fall Broward County Mayor; Officials Concerned About Spread of Delta Variant

A coronavirus variant first spotted in India is poised to become the dominant one in the United States, and could cause a resurgence of COVID-19 later this year. The super-contagious Delta variant of the coronavirus is now responsible for about one in every five new Covid-19 cases in the U.S. and Florida already has over 70 cases of the new variant, according to the CDC.

Broward County Mayor Steve Geller says the variant is likely to cause another spike in the county come this fall.

“Most people seem to be acting like the COVID-19 crisis is over and it's not because of the delta variant. The consensus medical opinion seems to be that absence something unexpected, like an unexpected surge in vaccinations, that in the fall, we should expect numbers again to start rising, both because of the delta variant and because people are gonna be spending less time indoors,” he said during a COVID-19 community update press conference on June 18.

Over 62 percent of Broward County's eligible population have been vaccinated.

Mayor Geller says that everyone in the county who wanted to take the vaccine has already

done so.

But he said in a few months, if the delta variant starts to spread in South Florida, unvaccinated residents will deeply regret not taking the shot.

“The people that are getting the delta variant are gonna deeply regret that they didn't get vaccinated when they had the opportunity,” Mayor Geller stated.

“It's hurting themselves and other people.”

The Broward Mayor says that he will be working with corporate entities and municipal leaders to give away cash prices, gift certificated and other incentives to encourage residents to get vaccinated.

Save Your Vision

Many people believe that having good vision means that their eyes are healthy; but that is not always the case. Regular comprehensive eye exams can ensure that you not only maintain good vision, but that you keep your eyes, and ultimately your body, healthy as well.

Getting an eye exam is the first step that you need to take to save your vision. Adults, especially those over age 40, should have their eyes tested yearly; not only to keep their prescriptions for glasses or contacts current, but also to check for early signs of eye disease.

Your eye doctor can detect common eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, dry eyes, floaters and macular degeneration. The health of your eyes is also an indicator of your overall health.

Eye doctors are often the first health care providers to detect systemic diseases such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure and diabetes.

Annual eye exams are not just for adults.

Children need to get regular eye exams as well.

Healthy vision is essential to a child's ability to learn and achieve their academic potential. Most people think that just because a child can see the eye chart at a vision screening at school or the pediatrician's office, that that means that they have perfect vision.

A child who can see 20/20 can still have a vision problem. It is important for parents to know that vision screenings are not a substitute for a comprehensive eye exam. Even if your child seems to be able to see OK, and doesn't complain, you still need to schedule an eye exam.

Routine eye exams are important for everyone, no matter your age. In honor of Save Your Vision Month, make sure you schedule your eye exam this month, if you haven't already had an exam this year.

Let's Have A Heart-To-Heart Research suggests African-Americans may carry a gene that makes them more salt sensitive, increasing the risk of high blood pressure.

People of African and Caribbean

heritage are at a much greater risk of developing heart disease than most other ethnicities, leading to a lower life expectancy and a poor quality of life.

We have no control over our gender or race; however, we do have control over the modifiable factors that cause heart disease.

There are three main conditions that increase the risk of heart disease – High Blood Pressure, Obesity and Diabetes.

You can lower the risk of these conditions through a healthy diet, exercise and regular visits to your primary care physician. Many medications used to control high blood pressure and diabetes are free at Publix Supermarkets. These medications include amlodipine, lisinopril and metformin. Other medication cost only

$2.50 per month including clonidine, clopidogrel, furosemide, hydralazine, hydrochlorothiazide, warfarin, losartan, metoprolol, spironolactone, triamtereneHCTZ, glimepiride and simvastatin.

It is also important to know the warning signs indicating heart problems. If you or someone you know experiences chest pain, shortness of breath, pain radiating to the shoulders and arms, neck or jaw pain, slurring of speech, face drooping, or arm weakness, you should call 911 or seek help from the nearest emergency department.

Change starts with each of us; let's keep our hearts healthy.

Common Sense, Easy Exercises

Not everyone has the time to visit a gym regularly. If you are among those who can't find the time here are some common sense, easy exercises.

Walking Walking is one of the easiest ways to be physically active regularly, lose weight and become healthier. People who walk regularly, at least 20 minutes daily in a brisk manner, burn more calories than those who make weekly visits to a gym.

Aim to walk 10,000 steps daily, burning up to 400 calories. To keep track of your walking, use a pedometer or exercise your brain by counting your steps while you walk.

You'll be surprised how many steps you can take within 30 minutes by simply walking in or around your house, garden, office or the shopping mall. Just walk!

Swimming Assuming one has easy access to a pool or live near the beach, swimming, like walking, is one of the most effective exercises. When one swims, all the muscles are engaged. There are several public pools and beaches in South Florida, where one can swim even a few times monthly.

Home Exercises Burn calories, lose weight and feel great with simple exercise at home. These exercises include: walking (of course); jogging on the spot, stretches, sits-ups, pushups, pull-ups (using a door jam), stairs

climbing, stomach crunches, rope-skipping, and/or working out with a medicine ball.

Take periodical breaks from the TV, computer and the Smart-Phone and simply walk around the room, stretch or jog on the spot.

Dancing For the young and the old, one of the more pleasant forms of exercise is dancing, and not necessarily at a night-club. Simply turn on the radio or slip in a CD with reggae, soca, salsa or some other pulsating/rhythmic music genre and dance to good health for 30-minutes every day.

Swing your hips, arms, legs, contract your stomach and buttocks and sweat.

Cosby Freed He was charged in late 2015, when a prosecutor armed with newly unsealed evidence — Cosby’s damaging deposition from her lawsuit — arrested him days before the 12-year statute of limitations expired.

The trial judge had allowed just one other accuser to testify at Cosby’s first trial, when the jury deadlocked. However, he then allowed five other accusers to testify at the retrial about their experiences with Cosby in the 1980s.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court said that testimony tainted the trial, even though a lower appeals court had found it appropriate to show a signature pattern of drugging and molesting women.

Bill Cosby was the first celebrity tried and convicted in the #MeToo era, so the reversal could make prosecutors wary of calling other accusers in similar cases. The law on prior bad act testimony varies by state, though, and the ruling only holds sway in Pennsylvania.

Prosecutors did not immediately say if they would appeal or seek to try Cosby for a third time.

The justices voiced concern not just about sex assault cases, but what they saw as the judiciary’s increasing tendency to allow testimony that crosses the line into character attacks. The law allows the testimony only in limited cases, including to show a crime pattern so specific it serves to identify the perpetrator.

In New York, the judge presiding over last year’s trial of movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, whose case had sparked the explosion of the #MeToo movement in 2017, let four other accusers testify.

Weinstein was convicted and sentenced to 23 years in prison. He is now facing separate charges in California.

In Cosby’s case, one of his appellate lawyers said prosecutors put on vague evidence about the uncharged conduct, including Cosby’s own recollections in his deposition about giving women alcohol or quaaludes before sexual encounters.

In May, Cosby was denied paroled after refusing to participate in sex offender programs during his nearly three years in state prison. He has long said he would resist the treatment programs and refuse to acknowledge wrongdoing even if it means serving the full 10-year sentence.

He fell from favor in his later years as he lectured the Black community about family values, but was attempting a comeback when he was arrested.

“There was a built-in level of trust because of his status in the entertainment industry and because he held himself out as a public moralist,” Assistant District Attorney Adrienne Jappe, of suburban Montgomery County, argued to the justices.

Cosby had invited Constand to an estate he owns in Pennsylvania the night she said he drugged and sexually assaulted her.

Constand, a former professional basketball player who worked at his alma mater, went to police a year later. The other accusers knew Cosby through the entertainment industry and did not go to police.

No one has been pulled out alive from Champlain Towers South since shortly after the collapse. Finding survivors is especially critical in the early days of a disaster, experts say.

“After that the survivability drops off pretty quickly — but it doesn't go to zero,” said Dr. Hernando Garzon, an emergency room physician in Sacramento, California, who has been deployed to disasters around the globe as part of humanitarian missions and search-andrescue operations. “It's too early to call it a bodyrecovery phase at this point.”

Garzon, who rushed to Haiti in 2010 to aid rescue efforts, recalled the cheers when Etienne, a Port-au-Prince teenager, emerged from the mangled house after being trapped for 16 days by shattered concrete and twisted metal. She was dehydrated, and her left leg was broken, but she was alive. Rescuers said she would not have lasted much longer had they not heard her faint cries for help.

Over the years there have been a number of

similar, seemingly impossible rescues: Evans Monsignac said he survived by sipping sewage while awaiting to be rescued from a collapsed flea market nearly a month after the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Park Sung-hyun, a 19-year-old salesclerk in South Korea, credited luck — and rainwater seeping through the ruins — for allowing her to survive 16 days in a collapsed shopping mall in 1995.

Pedrito Dy was rescued after 14 days in 1990 from the basement of a quake-devastated Hyatt Hotel in the Philippines resort of Baguio, surviving on drips of rain, he said, and his own urine.

And Jesus Antonio Castillo was among the last of the “miracle babies” — more than a dozen of them — rescued from a Mexico City hospital nine days after a 1985 earthquake. Bulldozers were being sent to clear the rubble when he was discovered.

“There's hope. I really believe miracles do happen,” said Martin Langesfeld, whose sister Nicole is believed to be among the missing in Florida. “Things like this have happened around the world.”

Jada Kingdom Signs Deal with Republic Records

Shaggy Launching New Music Show on SiriusXM

Jamaican dancehall artist, Jada Kingdom has secured herself a new record deal with Republic Records, a New York City-based record label owned by Universal Music Group.

The dancehall artist who seems to be widening her music reach in the United States has signed a deal months after cutting ties with her former manager, who she accused of stealing from her.

Jada shared the news with her over 1.8 million fans on Instagram on Wednesday, highlighting the moment the contract was signed.

The deal with Republic was initiated by her partner R&B singer Verse Simmonds, who stated on Instagram that “this is the biggest ever for a female artist from the Caribbean.”

Dubbing the deal something that she has prayed for, Jada took to Instagram and expressed gratitude at the opportunity.

“God, I love you, I trust you. Thank you! @versesimmonds it's safe to say I lost our bet and you told me so! We work so hard!

Tajay Gayle Books First Olympics Ticket After Win World champion Tajay Gayle stamped a ticket to his first Olympics Games on Saturday night when he jumped 8.23m to win the men’s long jump title at the JAAA National Championships at Kingston’s National Stadium.

Gayle, who upstaged the competition in landing gold at the 2019 World Championships in Qatar, won his second National long jump title in the process but was made to work hard for the victory as CareyMcLeod of the University of Tennessee forced him all the way.

Gayle took an early lead with 8.03m but McLeod, who also qualified for the men’s triple jump competition at next month’s Tokyo Olympics, assumed the lead with 8.06m.

Tajay Gayle responded like a champion and leapt 8.22m on his second last jump and although McLeod reacted positively with 8.14m, Gayle proved too good in the end and extended his lead to 8.23m on his final effort.

Also qualified to don the black, green and gold of Jamaica at the Olympics are World Championships silver medallist Shanieka Ricketts, who won the women’s triple jump with 14.46m in a dominant display, and Kimberly Williams, who landed at 14.19m for second place.

Also on that plane to Asia will be Danniel Thomas-Dodd, who also won silver at the last World Championships in the women’s discus.

Thomas-Dodd threw 18.51m for the top spot ahead of Lloydricia Cameron, who threw 18.05m, which is below the Olympic qualifying standard of 18.0m.

However, Cameron is ranked at 31st and is within the World Ranking quota of 32, which means she could earn a special invite to fill out the quota.

Another athlete who qualified for the Japan Olympics was Natoya Goule-Toppin

who won her eighth 800m National title with a 1:57.84 minutes clocking.

Fedrick Dacres, who won the silver medal at the last World Championships in Qatar, also qualified for the Olympics when he threw 64.31m to win his fifth National title.

Dacres won ahead of Kai Chang with 62.68m and Chad Wright with 62.52m.

Chang has not managed the qualifying standard but Wright has and will partner Dacres at the Games.

The four-day National Championships ends on Sunday with the finals of the men’s and women’s 200m and 400m, the women’s 100m hurdles final, the men’s 110m hurdles final, the men’s shot put, and the women’s 3000m.

WI Selectors Retain Same Squad for Third T20 West Indies selectors have stuck with the same 13-man squad for Tuesday’s third Twenty20 International against South Africa in Grenada.

The sides split the opening two games at the Grenada National Stadium, West Indies winning the opener by eight wickets last Saturday and South Africa responding with a 16-run win in the second game on Sunday.

And chief selector Roger Harper said the upcoming game provided players with another chance to impress as a collective.

“The selection panel is happy to retain the same squad for the third CG Insurance T20I,” Harper said.

“We are aware that there are still a number of T20Is ahead so there will be opportunities for other players going forward.”

As a result, no room has been found for attacking left-hander Shimron Hetmyer who has been fit and training with the group but unable to break into the squad.

West Indies were clinical all-round in the opening T20 Internationals, opener Evin Lewis leading the way with an imperious half-century while opening partner Andre Fletcher, veteran Chris Gayle and Andre Russell all producing cameos.

The script was quite different in the second match, however, as only Fletcher and all-rounder Fabian Allen displayed any real enterprise with the bat.
