I am a Product Design student at Nottingham Trent University. My design style is aesthetically appealing, functional, and sustainable. I believe that products need to be innovative and progressive for the convinience of human development, but also sustainable for the sake of reducing pollution and carbon emission.

My design strengths include the conceptualisation and CAD modeling and rendering of products through research.

Future of Nike Sneaker Design

02 BRIEF Through the research of existing trends, futuristic fabric and manufacturing methods, design a sneaker for a boy between the ages of 12 and 15 years old, to be released in 2031. The sneaker should be versatile, enabling the user to carry out multiple activities during the day with maximum comfort. It should also be stylish, trendy and fun to appeal to the target audience; and incorporate futuristic materials.

PROBLEM It is diffucult to design a sneaker for 10 years in the future. Futuristic designs would rely on observing what already exists and looking at how to better it for the user. This requires much research and innovation.

RESEARCH

The futuristic materials added to the sneaker are bicomponent fibres.

Bi-component fibres are a smart fabric which adapt to the thermal properties of the clothing it is woven into.

They can be manufactured from polyester, PLA, PBT, PBS, or a combination of those materials.

The user is a 15 year old boy in highschool who lives in Los Angeles, California. He is very physically active, being on the basketball team and track and field team. His hobbies also include playing football, beach voleyball and skating with his friends.

HOW IT WORKS 1.

Sneaker has layer of goretex that gives it water / sand proof properties. In-built sock extends to ankle to prevent sand.

Insole provides excellent shock absorption. Reduces pain and prevents ankle injury.

Sneaker is laced with bicomponent fibres, allowing it to adapt its thermal properties to its environment.

Sneaker has no laces, to save time when wearing for sports.

The flyknit provides good grip so sneaker remains on foot.

TECHNICAL DETAILING Exploded Sketch Flyknit sock is sewn to the tongue and back heel of the shoe from the inside. Sock is laced with gore-tex.

Sneaker body is also made from Nike flyknit, and laced with gore-tex. It has a tight and elastic feel, allowing it to hug feet without laces.

02 BRIEF Through the upcycling of silicone fingers, design a DIY jewelry making kit for a young girl between the ages of 8 to 11. The kit should include an integrated jewelry stand, and the jewels must be silicone fingers. The silicone fingers can come in mulitple shapes and sizes. The packaging must also be well considered and reflect both the brand and the product.

PROBLEM Silicone fingers go to waste after usage in the aero-space industry. They are difficult to dispose of since they can’t be melted, and throwing them away would cause pollution.

DESIGN PROCESS

Initial Sketches

IDEATION Creating a wide range of intial sketches using silicone fingers from multiple categories including fashion, toys, entertainment, lighting, etc.

DEVELOPMENT Creating 3 to 5 concepts that focus on a specific category, then developping those into 1 final idea.

MARKET RESEARCH Finding a gap in the market for the final design idea and adapting the product based on the research.

MODELING Creating a CAD or real life model of the final design idea to see how efficient it is.

The arts and craft industry has become more popular thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone is discovering new hobbies to pass time.

The number of people visiting the ideas page on Hobbycraft trippled in the first 6 weeks of lockdown. Kids arts and crafts search results increased by 400%.

The targetted user is a girl aged 8 to 11. She is girly, loves jewelry and crafting, with an attraction to bright colours.

She often plays in her room or playroom. She lives in an urban or suburban city.

TECHNICAL DETAILING

The grey silicone fingers have 3mm wide and 40mm long holes, created with a leather punching tool.

Hack Your 5-A-Day Healthy Toy Design

02 BRIEF Create a 3D printed healthy toy range for children aged 11 to 12, aimed at improving their willingness to eat vegetables. The toys should be simple and functional while possessing a sea animal theme appealing to their audience, creating a positive experience around healthy eating.

They should have easily recognisable forms that convey the theme. The toy parts should be easily attached and removed from a vegetable to directly establish the idea that vegetables can be fun.

PROBLEM Some children don’t eat enough vegetables to maintain a healthy lifestyle for their growing bodies. They don’t find certain vegetables engaging enough to look beyond their taste, smell, shape, or colours, preventing them from eating healthy.

RESEARCH Not enough children are eating the recommended daily portions of fruit and vegetables, with 8 to 12 year olds being on the higher side.

Many people don’t think healthy eating is worth the investment as they find other things more comforting or exciting. Integrating something fun like toys into vegetables would promote more healthy eating.

The most suitable vegetable for a healthy eating toy would be a carrot thanks to its popularity with children, high nutrient content, durability and affordability.

With older kids being heavily influenced by social media platforms such as Instagram, a toy with the theme of a popular sea animal would be sucessful at promoting healthy eating.

Older kids often partake in activities with their friends.

They are less messy eaters than younger kids and are more likely to eat vegetables. They have a better understanding of what is and isn’t good for their health.

SHARK TECHNICAL DETAILS

Print bed temperature was 70 degrees celcius.

2. Sail The sailfish toy took approximately 17 hours to print due to the large amount of material used for the sail and fish bill.

The parts have a 40% infill density to sucessfully pierce into the thick carrot skin.

Print orientation minimised the support material and maximised a better surface finish on the parts.

02 BRIEF Design a medical product that will help to improve the effectiveness in communication of patient information between student clinical nurses and other hospital employees during shift exchanges.

PROBLEM Due to the busy environment in hospitals and clinics, it can be difficult for clinical nurses to properly distribute patient information among the necessary staff members. Nurse and patient interactions can be very quick, making it hard to note eveything down in a short period of time.

Note taking is also not very environmentally friendly as it involves using paper.

Quick ideation

HOW IT IS USED

• The pen top is a microphone with a smart tip that can write notes on ipads.

• The pen is brought up to patient’s mouth and records everything they say.

• The text recorded on the pen is transcribbed into notes on the ipad.

• The pen also has an SD card slot to store the vocal info and input into another device.

• The SD card can be reached by opening the pen using the latch on its body.

Dermabrush Sketch

BRIEF Disassemble a product with 4 or more components and create an exploded sketch of it, inluding a bill of materials.

Careful consideration must be given to line weight, shade and colour clarity. The bill of materials should adress the components and detail their materials. Additionally, the sketch must done from an accurate and clear perspective.

Branding and Packaging Internship

02 PROJECT Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, redesign the packaging and branding experience of a small synthetic wig business. A new brand identity must be created incorporating the vision of the owner, while also taking into account current design trends of similar businesses.

The redesigned packaging should represent the new brand identity, as well as being a more sustainable alternative to the previous.

PROBLEM The packaging of the brand isn’t as sustainable as it could be and lacks character, not visually conveying the brand identity. In addition to this, the brand itself lacks a clear and immediately identifiable brand idenity, making it hard to convey through the current branding.

ABOUT THE BRAND Hair Anatomy UK is an England based hair brand that produces high quality synthetic wigs at an afforable price for women of all races and ethnicities.

VISION The brand believes that everyone deserves to have beautiful quality hair.

MISSION • Be a trustworthy brand • Build positive relationships with customers • Offer premium high-quality synthetic hair extensions.

The target users are women aged 21 to 35 in the UK. She is young, social, fun, girly, bold and loves to experiment with her hair so she wears wigs.

MATERIALS RESEARCH CURRENT MATERIAL

CHOICE MATERIAL

The storage bags are called polymailers.

The packaging material has changed to paperboard.

Poly mailers, made from low density polyethylene, a type of thermoplastic and one of the most commonly used plastics for packaging. Poly mailers are lightweight, easy to ship plastic packaging bags. Poly mailers are flexible, self-sealing polyethylene envelopes that are ideal for shipping clothing and non-fragile items.

Paperboard is a thick paper based material. It is more rigid and and foldable than paper, as well as being more durable and waterproof due to its thickness.

It is commonly used in food packing. Paperboard is commonly made from wood pulp, straw, wastepaper or a combination of those materials.

Table Clock Render

The table clock, CAD modelled using Solidworks and rendered with Keyshot, makes use of shape to stand out. Its curved shape is aesthetically appealing and comforting. It also enables it to stand at different orientations. This model was achieved through the use of fillets, extruded bases / cuts.

Sitting Stool Render

The sitting stool was created using the sheet metal tool on Solidworks. It has a simple yet functional shape, putting the focus on its vibrant colour, rendered on Keyshot 10. This render makes use of lighting, angles, shadows and colour to display the product well.

Milk Bottle and Mug Render

The mlk bottle render shows off glass and liquid rendering. The milk bottle was created on Solidworks using the revolve tool, while the milk inside was created through sketch planes and extrudes.

Iphone 12 Pro Max Pacific Blue Render

The iphone 12 pro max render makes use of simple tools on solidworks to achieve its model. Much of the detail comes from the rendering.
