I believe that products need to be innovative and progressive for the convinience of human development, but also sustainable for the sake of reducing pollution and carbon emission.

Anaesticare: Medical Design

The Surgical Kit for Anaesthetic Nurses

Brief Design a kit for essential surgical tools for an anaesthetic nurse in the USA. The kit should be made of a sustainable plastic, such as polypropylene which is highly recyclable. It should be durable, have good longevity, be cost effective to manufacture, and innovative.

The kit should have compartments designed with each surgical item in mind, while still being compact enough to move around easily and fit on an anaesthetic workstation.

Problem Anaesthetic nurses have to place all their surgical tools on a tray or cloth on their workstation because they don’t have an industry standard kit where they can place everything during a surgery.

4 to 5 Miles Is how much nurses walk in a 12 hour shift.

21 Million People Undergo anaesthesia in the United States every year.

Models

The handle on the model helps with the mobility of the product. The extended corners atop the kit keep the lid in place. Each compartment is perfectly sized for the equipment its meant to contain. The physical model was 3D printed using PLA and scaled down to 40% of the original size.

How It Works?

Storyboard 1.

Nurse arrives at the clinic in the morning. She checks her appointments for the day.

During her surgeries, the nurse uses the kit to keep track of all her equipment.

The nurse prepares her kit in advance for 3 to 4 surgeries and keeps it in the cabinet.

She uses the kit lid as a disposing tray and sanitises it between each surgery.

Technical Detailing The lid is used as a disposal tray for contaminated surgical equipment.

The compartments are removable making them customisable. All compartments are 93.5 mm tall.

Internal frame is 4 mm thick to provide stability for compartments.

External frame is blue as it is the colour associated with the medical field. It is 2.5 mm thick for strength & impact resistance.

Made from polypropylene, C-3 matte finish, coloured via masterbatching & coated with silver ion antimicrobial technology.

Everpure: Hiking Product

Brief Design a portable water purification hiking bottle to help Millennials trekking Base Camp Everest stay hydrated and energised during their 2 week trip. The bottle should be durable, impact resistant, sustainable, and convey the physical and material aesthetics of a Berghaus hiking product.

Problem There are many sources of water at Base Camp Everest, including lakes and snow. But much of it is not pure and can’t be consumed.

And hikers are responsible for how much water they can carry on them while trekking.

Water at base camp can be bought from the local tea houses, obtained by melting snow or boiling lake water.

When not in use the hiker can unscrew the straw, put it away, and screw the lid on.

The bottle can also melt snow to be drank later thanks to its dual insulation properties.

It also takes freshly boiled water from base camp thanks to its thermal resistance.

The water bottle uses a Lifestraw Flex as its purification system. The straw can screw on and off the bottle and be replaced with a lid when not in use.

The bottle’s internal layer is made from platinum food grade silicone: durable, non toxic, and heat / cold resistant.

The fabric used for the bottle is Berghaus’ waterproof, insulating, InterActive fabric.

5-A-DAY: Healthy Eating Toy Design

Brief Create a 3D printed healthy toy range for children aged 11 to 12, aimed at improving their willingness to eat vegetables. The toys should be simple and functional while possessing a sea animal theme appealing to their audience, creating a positive experience around healthy eating. They should have easily recognisable forms that convey the theme. The toy parts should be easily attached and removed from a vegetable to directly establish the idea that vegetables can be fun.

Problem Some children don’t eat enough vegetables to maintain a healthy lifestyle for their growing bodies. They don’t find certain vegetables engaging enough to look beyond their taste, smell, shape, or colours, preventing them from eating healthy.

Research Not enough children are eating the recommended daily portions of fruit and vegetables, with 8 to 12 year olds being on the higher side.

Many people don’t think healthy eating is worth the investment as they find other things more comforting or exciting. Integrating something fun like toys into vegetables would promote more healthy eating.

User The most suitable vegetable for a healthy eating toy would be a carrot thanks to its popularity with children, high nutrient content, durability and affordability.

With older kids being heavily influenced by social media platforms such as Instagram, a toy with the theme of a popular sea animal would be sucessful at promoting healthy eating.

Older kids often partake in activities with their friends.

They are less messy eaters than younger kids and are more likely to eat vegetables. They have a better understanding of what is and isn’t good for their health.

They were printed at Standard quality resolution with a 0.2 mm layer height.

The parts have a 40% infill density to sucessfully pierce into the thick carrot skin.

Print orientation minimised the support material and maximised a better surface finish on the parts.

Branding & Packaging Internship

Project Using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, redesign the packaging and branding experience of a small synthetic wig business. A new brand identity must be created incorporating the vision of the owner, while also taking into account current design trends of similar businesses. The redesigned packaging should represent the new brand identity, as well as being a more sustainable alternative to the previous.

Problem The packaging of the brand isn’t as sustainable as it could be and lacks character, not visually conveying the brand identity.

In addition to this, the brand itself lacks a clear and immediately identifiable brand idenity, making it hard to convey through the current branding.

ABOUT THE BRAND Hair Anatomy UK is an England based hair brand that produces high quality synthetic wigs at an afforable price for women of all races and ethnicities.

VISION The brand believes that everyone deserves to have beautiful quality hair.

MISSION • Be a trustworthy brand • Build positive relationships with customers • Offer premium high-quality synthetic hair extensions.

The target users are women aged 21 to 35 in the UK. She is young, social, fun, girly, bold and loves to experiment with her hair so she wears wigs.

Materials Research

CHOICE MATERIAL The packaging material has changed to paperboard.

Paperboard is a thick paper based material. It is more rigid and and foldable than paper, as well as being more durable and waterproof due to its thickness. It is commonly used in food packing. Paperboard is commonly made from wood pulp, straw, wastepaper or a combination of those materials.
