“Weknowtherearedebates,trade-offs,andintenseconversationshappeningonthese topics—especiallyamonglawmakers,insuranceexperts,andbuildingcodeofficials—butwe simplymustprioritizethewayscommunitiescanwithstandchangingclimatepatternsand naturaldisasters,”saidShamimRashid-Sumar,SeniorVicePresident,CodesandStandards andfirebuildingcodesexpertwithNRMCA.“Webelieveshowingwhybuildingwith non-combustiblematerialsisthebestoverallpathforwardgivenallthenaturaldisastersand emergencieswemustprepareforisanissueworthchampioning.”

The Building With Resilience effortwillengagelawmakers,communities,andcitizensto increaseawarenessandeducation,andconsolidateresourcesforexpertsseekinginformationon thehighestlevelsofstructuraldurability,strategiesforslowingwildfirespread,andincreasing buildingsustainably.Theinitiative’smissionalsoincludesfosteringcross-sectorcollaboration thatadvancessafer,moresustainablepracticesforbuildingandrebuildinghomes,commercial structures,andinfrastructure.
