LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
Dear Alumnae/i and Friends,
I’m sure you’d agree that it’s difficult to believe that we’re nearing completion of yet another remarkable year for the University of Mount Saint Vincent! I’m proud—so proud—of the ways we’ve moved all ways forward together in support of our learners and community this year. But, with news headlines flashing narratives of colleges and universities shuttering doors and cutting programs, I must admit that, in my conversations with friends and colleagues, the same questions are being called forth: why higher education? Why liberal arts institutions? Why now?
These questions echo loudly across our nation and it’s no doubt that higher education is currently under a microscope—families worry about cost, students worry about debt, and employers question whether a degree is worth the investment. Yet, at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, we continue to affirm what history has proven time and again: that higher education remains the greatest driver of opportunity, social and economic mobility, and personal and professional transformation.

With that in mind, I’m also being asked: why the University of Mount Saint Vincent?
The Mount is not immune to the challenges facing colleges and universities today. But I write to you proudly to share that we are responding to the signs of the times with courage, creativity, and conviction—just as our foundresses, the Sisters of Charity of New York, taught us to do. For over two centuries, the Sisters founded schools, hospitals, and social services agencies not because it was easy, but because it was needed. Today, we continue the Sisters’ legacy at the Mount by living our commitment of meeting our learners when, where, and how they need us—always.
And this is only possible because of you. Your generosity protects affordability, opens doors to opportunity, and ensures that Mount students can pursue their dreams without being defined by financial or family means. Together, we show our students that their potential is greater than any obstacle, and that their future is worth fighting for.
As you read the narratives we share in this report, you will see examples of our mission in motion: ways we show up for our students when they need us most; ways we create pathways where others see only barriers; ways we innovate with purpose, guided by our Vincentian and Setonian values; and ways we carry forward the bold spirit of the Sisters of Charity to meet the challenges of today.
I know that there is hope. There is hope for our students and their families. There is hope for the University of Mount Saint Vincent. And there is hope for the future of higher education.
We are, in every way, responding to the signs of the times—together. I want to sincerely thank you for your steadfast support of the University of Mount Saint Vincent and your extraordinary generosity toward our talented and deserving students. With your continued partnership, I know we will continue to answer the question of Why now? with courage for the future and faith in the power of higher education to transform lives.
With gratitude,

Susan R. Burns,

WHEN WE SHOW UP FOR OUR STUDENTS
FOR GENERATIONS, the University of Mount Saint Vincent has been a place where students with big dreams, but—in many cases—limited means find both open doors and open hearts. We believe that a student’s potential should never be stifled by their financial circumstances. The Mount has been—and continues to be—a place where dreams take root, even when the path to college seems uncertain. Today, that commitment matters more than ever.
Across the nation, families are questioning whether higher education is worth the cost. Student debt weighs heavily on young adults, and new restrictions to federal loan programs threaten to limit access even further. While the political landscape continues to evolve, it is clear that federal student aid is under threat. Proposals to cap or eliminate certain federal loan programs would severely limit the flexibility families and students have to fund opportunities for higher education. New lifetime and annual borrowing limits could force students to abandon or delay their dreams of earning advanced degrees.
But, at the Mount, we refuse to let financial barriers define who can or cannot pursue a degree. Instead, we lean into our mission— and your support of our scholarship and aid programs makes all the difference.
“100% of our traditional undergraduate students receive institutional financial aid,” President Burns proudly remarked. “In 2025 alone, the University awarded more than $40 million in scholarships and grants, thanks to the generosity of our alumnae/i, friends, and steadfast supporters. But behind every statistic is a student—a real student with dreams and aspirations—who might not have been able to attend the Mount without your support.”
Our scholarships do more than just cover the costs of tuition—they allow students to focus on their studies, pursue internships throughout New York City, and participate fully in campus life without the constant worry of how to make ends meet and ensuring that education remains within reach.
MEET GELI ESCOBINAS ’28

Angelina “Geli” Escobinas is a sophomore pursuing her degree in nursing. Originally from Clifton, NJ, Geli lives on campus in Aquino Hall, where she has quickly become an active and enthusiastic member of the UMSV community. And being Mount Made runs
deep through her veins—not only did her older brother, Nio, graduate from the University just last year, their mother is a proud member of the Class of 1999! Talk about legacy.
Her leadership and involvement span across academics, athletics, and student life. Geli is a member of the women’s basketball team, serves as the treasurer for the Class of 2028 in the Student Government Association, and plays a key role in our Office of Admission as a head tour guide. She is also a member of SAMAHAN, WORDS, Filiment Dance Troupe, and the Student Nurses Association, balancing her love for culture, the arts, and service. In addition, she works part-time both on campus and at a small, locally owned café.
As a nursing student, Geli looks forward to beginning her clinical rotations, where she will gain hands-on experience in patient care. She hopes to pursue a career in pediatrics, inspired by her passion for helping children and their
families. With aspirations to grow as a nurse, possibly take on a leadership role, or continue her education, Geli is committed to a future of providing compassionate care and putting patients first to ensure everyone receives the care and support they deserve.
Because of your support, Geli is able to fully immerse herself in life at the Mount while focusing on her career aspirations.
“Scholarships at the Mount have played a huge role in making my education possible. They have helped reduce the financial burden on my family and brought me one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a nurse. Because of this support, I can focus more on my studies and less on the stress of debt.”

Junior student Alfred Lamptey is diligently pursuing a degree in data analytics at the Mount. Originally from Accra, Ghana—but raised in Jersey City, NJ—Alfred has embraced every opportunity to grow as a scholar, athlete, and leader at UMSV.
An engaged member of campus life, Alfred is an IC Scholar, a member of our men’s lacrosse team, and serves as co-president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). His leadership in athletics extends beyond the Mount, as he represents the Skyline Conference on the NCAA-wide SAAC and serves as the Division III representative on the NCAA Committee on Access, Opportunity, and Impact.
On campus, Alfred also works two part-time jobs throughout the year to help finance his studies: one as a Resident Assistant, supporting the resident student community in Seton Hall, and another in our Operations Division, assisting with purchasing and daily logistics.
Alfred has already built an impressive record of professional experiences. For the past two summers, he interned at Swiss Re, a global reinsurance company, where he discovered a passion for the industry. He also conducted research on the risks of artificial intelligence in the global intelligence community, presenting his findings at an ISC
symposium at Howard University. These experiences have fueled his interest in pursuing a career in reinsurance after graduation, while keeping an open mind toward other opportunities for growth and lifelong learning.
Scholarship support from donors like you has played a vital role in Alfred’s journey.
“Scholarships at the Mount have made it possible for me to pursue my education and passions without the financial stress that often comes with college,” Alfred reflected. “They’ve allowed me to focus on academics, athletics, and leadership—all of which have shaped my UMSV experience. I’m incredibly grateful for the support and hope our donors know how impactful their generosity is to students like me.”

Grace Pavlock, a current junior at the Mount, isn’t shy to share that she believes she is pursuing her passion as a public policy major. Originally from Houston, TX, Grace came to New York to follow a long-standing dream of engaging in government and activism—something she never thought was possible until she found her place here at UMSV.
Facing housing insecurity, Grace shared that she is fortunate enough to live on campus year-round in Rosary Hall through the Dax House program— an initiative started by UMSV just last year in collaboration with the Sisters of Charity Housing Development Corporation and DePaul USA. Students living in Dax House receive stable housing and pay only a nominal fee in rent each month. They are set up for success with an environment conducive to studying and academic pursuits.
Outside the classroom, Grace is deeply involved in student leadership. She serves as treasurer of the Model United Nations and is a senator for the Class of 2027 in the Student Government Association—representing her class with energy and enthusiasm. Grace also works part-time at the UMSV Wellness Cove, where she leads communication efforts and contributes as a peer leader while advocating for student well-being.
Beyond campus, Grace is gaining valuable professional experience through an internship with Broadridge, a global technology leader. There, Grace is learning about the stock market and broadening her understanding of finance and policy. Her ultimate career goals are ambitious—running for Congress, advancing policies that serve the less fortunate, and eventually, running for president of the United States.
Grace credits the Mount and its donors for making these opportunities—and more—possible.
“Thanks to the scholarships and opportunities provided by the Mount’s donors, I have been able to step out of my comfort zone and dedicate myself to the work I love,” Grace shared. “I would not be here making a meaningful difference in both our school and our community without the generosity of the University of Mount Saint Vincent.”
These are just a few voices among thousands. Geli, Alfred, and Grace’s stories are reminders of what can happen when the Mount shows up for its students—at the very moment in today’s day and age when access to an affordable, yet excellent education matters most.
“We meet our learners when they need us,” President Burns reiterated. “At the Mount, when means showing up in the exact moment a student fears they may not belong or may not be able to afford to stay. And in that moment, we show them that they have a home here at the University of Mount Saint Vincent and we are proud to invest in their future.”
Thanks to your continued generosity, the Mount can provide the kind of financial and personal support that transforms uncertainty into possibility and pushes our learners to move all ways forward. Because of you, we remain a lifeline—and a launchpad—for the students who will go on to serve, to lead, and to make the world better than they found it. Each gift you make is magnified in impact—turning doubt into confidence, barriers into opportunities, and dreams into degrees.
Even as belief in the power of higher education continues to evolve, we know that one thing remains constant: when our students need us, the Mount is here.

WHERE WE CREATE PATHWAYS
Opening Doors to Opportunity
FOR MORE THAN 175 YEARS, the University of Mount Saint Vincent has been defined by a simple, yet progressive idea: that education is not a privilege for the few, but a pathway for all. That commitment continues to guide us today as we seek out new ways to extend our mission far beyond the gates of our Riverdale campus, believing that education has never been confined to one place.
In our response to the signs of the times, the Mount must continue to find new, creative partnerships to strengthen our role as a leading institution of higher education in the region and expand our program and course offerings to learners from every background. Our growing network of strategic partnerships creates access for students and communities who have been historically excluded from the benefits of earning a degree or certificate. From the launch of Seton College to our collaborations with community-based organizations, every initiative is rooted in the belief that a Mount education must meet learners where they are.
One of the most remarkable examples is our partnership with the Sara Schenirer Institute, which has opened doors for thousands of Orthodox Jewish women—
and men—to pursue their degrees in an environment that supports both their faith and their academic goals.
“Our partnership with the University of Mount Saint Vincent reflects the very heart of our mission at Sara Schenirer—to open doors of higher education for our students,” shared Rabbi Elazar Meisels, Dean of Sara Schenirer. “Together, we have created pathways that allow learners to pursue academic and professional success while remaining firmly grounded in their values. Collaborations like we have with the Mount ensure that opportunities for growth and achievement reach every dedicated student who is ready to embrace them.”
Over 1,000 Sara Schenirer students are enrolled in the Mount’s degree-granting programs on both the undergraduate and graduate level. Students study in the places and spaces in their communities

with the guidance of qualified teachers, but earn University of Mount Saint Vincent degrees.
Particularly groundbreaking—and introduced just this semester—is the UMSV Shomer Shabbat Accelerated Nursing Program, the first culturally sensitive nursing pathway for Jewish women. Working in close collaboration with the Mount’s Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing, students enrolled in the Shomer Shabbat Accelerated Nursing Program will follow a special academic calendar aligned with the Jewish holidays, be taught by culturally respectful professors, and practice at clinical settings well-versed in Jewish medical procedures. Cohorts will be separated by men and women. The first cohort of women began their studies this past August, with an additional cohort of women and the first cohort of men slated to begin in the Spring semester.
Partnerships like this are made possible because of the Mount’s unwavering commitment to meeting learners where they need us. The same is true of Seton College, where students who once doubted whether higher education was even possible are now thriving in an associate degree program—and will graduate debt-free.
Developed in partnership with the Come To Believe Network, a nonprofit that assists higher education institutions in developing and launching two-year programs that offer underserved students an opportunity to earn an associate degree, and if they wish, continue on to earn four-year degrees, Seton College is the first of its kind not just in New York, but on the entire east coast.
“Seton College is more than just a program—it’s a promise,” said Dr. Lynne Bongiovanni, Provost and Dean of Faculty. “It reflects the very heart of

our mission. It ensures that students who might have once believed higher education was out of reach can find a pathway here—one that is accessible, supportive, and deeply connected to the values of the Mount. We are not just granting degrees; we are opening doors to futures that would otherwise remain closed. Watching our first cohort thrive has been one of the most inspiring experiences of my career, and it’s only the beginning.”
In addition to earning an associate degree, through our partnership with online provider Coursera, Seton College students will earn an entrylevel professional certificate in one of a variety of topic areas to prepare them for the workforce or further education, including: cyber-security, digital marketing, software engineering, project management, data science, social media marketing, and more.
Seton College students accumulate two years’ worth of fully transferable credits,
with dedicated full-time staff guiding them seamlessly through the transfer process into the University or another accredited institution of higher learning, ensuring a smooth transition to their next academic endeavor or preparation to enter the workforce. The first cohort of Seton College students will graduate in just a few short months.
And our partnership with the Sara Schenirer Institute and our launch of Seton College are not the only examples of how the University of Mount Saint Vincent meets our students where they need us most. We’re creating pathways for transfer students, where learners from local community colleges can find a welcoming and inclusive place to complete their four-year degrees. We’re enabling adult learners to earn a bachelor's degree on their time or enhance their resumes with a master’s degree in an entirely online format. And we’re proud of the partnerships we’re making throughout the Bronx—including with neighboring RiverSpring Living, where senior residents collaborate with undergraduate students in integrated classrooms.
“Every time we create a new pathway or launch a partnership with a new program, we live out the vision of the Sisters of Charity, who never hesitated to step into the places where they were most needed,” shared President Burns. “We, too, go where the need is greatest—and we bring the Mount with us. We live by the words of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton: hazard, yet forward.”
Your generosity enables us to take bold steps, to invest in new models of education, and to say yes to opportunities that expand the reach of our mission. With your support, the Mount is able to keep saying yes: yes to new partnerships, yes to bold ideas, and
yes to the communities that need us most.
As our world changes, so, too, must the ways we extend access. At the University of Mount Saint Vincent, where we show up is not just a matter of geography—it’s a matter of mission. Whether in the Bronx, Brooklyn, or beyond, the Mount will continue to carry its Vincentian values into the world, creating pathways of opportunity for all learners that change lives.
Thank you to the generous donors who supported Seton College in 2024-2025.

College is a Great Investment of Time and Effort
President Burns continues to elevate the University’s voice in national conversations on higher education. Through op-eds and media interviews, she has built a strong public profile and reinforced her role as a trusted thought leader. In a compelling op-ed for the New York Daily News titled “College is a Great Investment of Time and Effort,” Dr. Burns affirms the life-changing value of higher education—especially at mission-driven institutions like the Mount. NEW YORK POST
Holocaust Survivor, 97, Forced Out of School When Nazis Invaded Granted ‘Golden Wish’ to Finally Go to College
A heartwarming story that began on the Mount’s campus captured national attention. The New York Post featured Jacqueline Kimmelstiel, a 97-yearold Holocaust survivor who, through the Hebrew Home at RiverSpring Living’s “golden wish” program, fulfilled her lifelong dream of going to college. Her day at the Mount included attending classes and cheering at a basketball game—an experience she said made her feel she had “grown up.” The story was picked up by ABC 7 NY, CBS 2 NY, NBC 4 NY the Associated Press, Yahoo! News, and more. It highlighted the deep partnership between the University and the Hebrew Home—and the transformative power of education at any age.

Athletics
94.7 FM Conversations on the Block
Mount Saint Vincent athletes are leaders both in the classroom and on the field or court, sharing their unique talents and working to promote pride and spirit on campus. By participating in athletic programs, students not only learn skills to help them excel in their sport, but also develop skills needed to help them grow into deeply motivated and goal-oriented individuals. Your gift the Department of Athletics—which can be put toward the General Athletics Fund or toward a specific sport or program—will help our exceptional athletic teams purchase uniforms and equipment, offset the cost of tournament travel expenses, and engage our athletes in sportsmanship and teambuilding activities.
President Burns took to the airwaves to share her insights on the evolving higher education landscape and her journey as a university president in New York City. Her interview with Patricia Robinson on 94.7 FM’s Conversations on the Block offered listeners a personal and powerful look into the Mount’s mission, momentum, and vision for the future. The segment resonated widely, airing across major Audacy affiliate stations including 102.7 FM, WCBS, and WFAN. These conversations further amplify Dr. Burns’ voice as a dynamic leader— and reinforce the Mount’s growing presence as a leading institution for access, excellence, and opportunity in higher education.

HOW WE’RE POWERED BY PURPOSE
Our Mission in Motion

AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT, purpose has always driven our progress. From the classroom to the community, every new initiative, academic program, and innovation is rooted in the belief that education is not only about knowledge, but also goodness, discipline, and an understanding of the common good.
As we continue to explore innovative new partnerships, we find ourselves anchored in the same question: how can we best serve our students, our community, and our world?
In one reflective moment of response to this question—this past January—the Mount announced that it made the strategic step forward to restructure the academic divisions of the University from individual departments to schools— enhancing the University’s institutional efficiency and effectiveness while addressing the challenges facing higher education today. This move created six schools under the larger university umbrella, with three serving solely students enrolled in the Undergraduate College of Mount Saint Vincent and three crossing ties between the Undergraduate College
and the College of Professional and Graduate Studies.
While each academic department has been preserved— including the appointment of new faculty chairs—the University created positions for a new dean or assistant dean in each of the six schools. It is important to note that this restructuring was not for cost savings, but for organizational opportunity. The Mount is proud to be navigating the challenges of higher education without having to cut programs or positions—and that’s significant.
Each of the six schools—the School of Business; the School of Education; the School of Humanities, Communication, and Art; the School of Natural and Mathematical Sciences; the School of Social Sciences; and the Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing—have fostered deeper collaboration among faculty and are actively creating more intentional pathways for students to launch meaningful careers aligned with today’s market.
Guided by a strong ethical foundation, faculty and members of the administration also came together to revise the University
Learning Outcomes—further solidifying our purpose while responding to the needs of an ever-changing workforce and yet remaining faithful to our Vincentian and Setonian traditions in education. Each of the six schools is committed to fostering analytical skills, critical thinking, effective communication, and ethical and religious inquiry among their learners while incorporating these values into their respective courses.
And perhaps no program embodies this intersection of tradition and innovation more than the Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing. This academic year, the Mount is proud to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the re-launch of our nationally recognized nursing program—a program that has shaped generations of compassionate, highly skilled nurses.
What began in 1975 as a bold response to a growing demand for healthcare professionals has, in these last 50 years, become one of the University’s signature strengths, growing into a thriving school that serves not just traditional undergraduate students, but also accelerated students with learning sites across the boroughs, master’s and certificate students pursuing licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner, and even the first culturally sensitive accelerated program for Jewish women and men in partnership with the Sara Schenirer Institute.
With thanks to the leadership and generosity of Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers—lead by President and CEO Michael J. Spicer—the University was able to name the Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing in 2023 through a generous $2.5 million gift.
Saint Joseph’s, also a sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Charity of New York, eagerly came together with leadership at the Mount to further imbue the Charism of Charity among our local communities of the Bronx, Westchester, and beyond.

“Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the nursing program here at the Mount is both humbling and inspiring,” said Provost Lynne Bongiovanni. “For half a century, our graduates have answered the call to serve with compassion, skill, and courage. This milestone reminds us of the legacy we inherit from the Sisters—and the responsibility we have to prepare the next generation of nurses who will continue to make a profound difference in the lives of others. As we look to the future, our hope is to expand opportunities for students to learn, lead, and innovate in healthcare and beyond.”
From the earliest graduates who entered New York City hospitals in the 1970s and 1980s among the height of the AIDS epidemic, to today’s students training in advanced simulation labs with state-of-the-art manikins and technology, nursing at the Mount has always represented care in action and, of course, the values instilled in us by the Sisters of Charity. For 50 years, Mount Saint Vincent nurses have been prepared not just to practice, but to lead.
The Saint Joseph’s School of Nursing is just one example of how a Mount education is powered by purpose. Students in the School of Business are learning how to navigate complex industries by earning certificates in cybersecurity, computer science, and accounting. Teachers pursuing master’s degrees in the School of Education are learning to lead with empathy and create classrooms that welcome all learners. And no matter what major our students select, all of our schools are ensuring that our students of both today and tomorrow find that they have a responsibility to put our mission in motion through their personal and professional lives.
“Every decision we make—whether launching a new school, revising a curriculum, or expanding a program—is molded and motivated by our mission,” remarked President Burns. “We know that the world needs graduates who are not only knowledgeable, but also driven by a higher purpose. That is what defines a Mount education.”
It’s your support that makes a Mount education possible. With every investment in our programs and students, you sustain our momentum of transformation while preserving the values that have guided us since 1847. You ensure that the Mount’s mission is not just preserved, but propelled into the future. And this is how we are powered by purpose—by a legacy of courage, a community of learners and leaders, and by the generosity of those who believe in the opportunity of higher education.

WE GRATEFULLY ACKNOWLEDGE our Centennial Society donors—alumnae/i and friends who have made long-range or planned gifts to the Mount. Such gifts include bequests, life insurance, appreciated securities, retirement funds, charitable gift annuities, real estate, and personal property.

All Ways Forward Speaker Series
The University of Mount Saint Vincent was thrilled to host the second and third installments of the All Ways Forward Speaker Series on March 27 and October 6, respectively. The All Ways Forward Speaker Series is a new initiative at the University aimed at bringing leaders in business, government, politics, and more into the ever-active Mount community to educate and share the ways in which they are moving themselves and their personal and professional stories all ways forward.
In March we welcomed Luis Miranda, Jr.—political activist, Broadway producer, and author—who spoke on his latest memoir, Relentless. In October, we welcomed Michael Sheldrick—author and Co-Founder of Global Citizen—who spoke on his book, From Ideas to Impact. Both events included engaging conversations between the featured guests and President Burns, as well as the opportunities for a meet-and-greet with the authors and a book signing.
At the University of Mount Saint Vincent, we are always moving forward. We continue to find shared success in our programs and partnerships and are grateful to our All Ways Forward Speaker Series guests and attendees. Stay tuned for more events!

SISTERS of Charity
IN 1847, THE SISTERS OF CHARITY OF NEW YORK founded the University of Mount Saint Vincent to provide excellent liberal arts education in the Catholic tradition, preparing students for lives of professional accomplishment and service. With great pride, we strive to fulfill this mission. In the tradition of the Sisters of Charity, we ask everyone who works at the Mount to be committed to this fundamental purpose: to educate the whole person, to take part in a lively conversation with religious faith, and to engender a dedication to service.
Listed here are Sisters who, during the past year, have lent their talent, wisdom, and spirit in a variety of capacities to work on behalf of the Mount. With immense gratitude, we acknowledge and celebrate their leadership, dedication, and commitment to the University of Mount Saint Vincent.

CARRYING ON THE LEGACY OF THE SISTERS OF CHARITY
All Ways Forward—Together
THE STORY OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT cannot be told without the story of the Sisters of Charity of New York. When the first group of three Sisters arrived in New York City from Emmitsburg, MD in 1817, they faced an uncertain future. Yet, with courage and conviction, they found where they were needed. They built schools, hospitals, and agencies that became lifelines for generations—many which still exist today, some two centuries later.
At the University of Mount Saint Vincent, that same spirit and charism continue to guide us in the 21st century. In a higher education landscape filled with uncertainty, we are making bold, mission-driven choices. Seton College is expanding access to students who might otherwise never have considered college. Strategic partnerships are extending a Mount education into new communities. And investments in facilities and academic innovation are ensuring that the University remains a place where students can move all ways forward.
Each decision we make reflects a legacy of meeting our learners when, where, and how they need us.
“Every step we take is guided by the legacy of the Sisters of Charity,” President Burns reflected. “The Sisters remind us that courage and faith are not just words, but actions. At the Mount, we embrace that same spirit as we face the challenges of our own time. And every time we succeed, it is because we have a community of alumnae/i and friends who believe in us, stand with us, and move forward with us.”
Our choices are not accidental—they reflect a deliberate commitment to the mission entrusted to us by the generations of Sisters who came before us. They remind us that education is not static but dynamic, and that our work is something that requires risk, resilience, and a belief in the value of education to transform lives.
For the Sisters of Charity, education was never about exclusivity. It was about access. They believed that every
learner—regardless of background or circumstance— deserved the chance to grow, to learn, and to serve. That conviction continues to guide the University of Mount Saint Vincent today, most visibly through our unwavering commitment to scholarships and financial aid.
You, our dedicated supporters and friends, are essential partners on this journey. Your generosity enables us to continue to provide 100% of traditional undergraduate students with institutional financial support, totaling more than $40 million in scholarships and grants. These numbers are significant, but what matters most are the lives behind them: students who, without aid, might have seen college as out of reach. Students who may have been left with no other option but to find a minimum wage job just to put food on the tables for their families. And students who may have thought their only option was to take out more loans than they could ever imagine paying back. For these students—and more—scholarships are more than just financial assistance. Scholarships are an affirmation of belonging in our community and a promise of opportunity for the future.
By investing in scholarships, you ensure that the Mount can remain true to its Vincentian and Setonian roots. As questions about the value of higher education dominate national conversations, our financial aid programs stand as a clear answer: at Mount Saint Vincent, no student should be turned away because of financial need.
Scholarships and aid are not just about helping students enroll—they are about helping them persist, thrive, and graduate. They allow students to focus on their studies, to take advantage of internships and research opportunities, and to fully participate in the life of our campus community. In this way, financial aid is both practical and transformational— it secures access today and builds leaders for tomorrow.
And helping to create more robust scholarship programs is not the only way you’re supporting the Mount and enhancing our mission.
In the past year alone, we’ve completed significant capital projects on campus, including: repaving and repainting the main road on campus from the 263rd Street gate to the top of the main hill—ensuring better drainage, runoff, and longevity of the streets and sidewalks; updating classroom spaces across buildings to include new technology and environmental upgrades; and replacing fencing around the

campus perimeter with new, heighted wrought-iron fences to ensure better security measures are in place for students, staff, and Sisters.
These improvements are more than routine updates—they are visible signs of our ongoing commitment to stewarding the Mount for future generations. Just as the Sisters of Charity built institutions that would endure beyond their own time, we, too, are called to care for the spaces entrusted to us so that they remain vibrant, welcoming, and safe for all who learn and live here.
Each project reflects the same principle that has guided the Mount since its founding: that students deserve an environment where they can focus fully on their growth and formation. In this way, all the ways you offer your financial support—from funding scholarships to enhancing capital investments—are not separate from our mission, but expressions of it, ensuring that the University remains a place where education, community, and faith continue to flourish.
“I cannot thank our community more for the trust they place in us,” President Burns added. “The Mount has always thrived because our alumnae/i, friends, and partners make the conscious choice to stand with us. Together, we are ensuring that the University of Mount Saint Vincent remains a place where students are seen, supported, and inspired to lead lives of purpose. We are making a difference.”
The future of higher education may be uncertain, but the Mount moves onward with hope and confidence— responding to the signs of the times. We find our direction from our dear Sisters. In our students, we find our purpose. And in our mission, we find the courage to carry the legacy forward—all ways forward, together.

GRANTS & CONTRACTS
In fiscal year 2024-2025, the University of Mount Saint Vincent advanced its mission of granting access to an excellent education for all students through the generous support of both private foundations and government partners. Philanthropic investments strengthened academic innovation, expanded student services, and sustained pathways to graduation.
Foundation awards have directly impacted the launch of Seton College—bolstering opportunities for learners who would have otherwise opted out of a college education—and enhanced scholarship funding for nursing students, a cornerstone of the University’s Vincentian mission. Government grants provide vital resources to ensure student persistence and success. With renewed support from the New York State Education Department, the Mount continues to operate the Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). And federal partnerships—through programs such as SSS/TRiO and initiatives to improve campus safety through the Office on Violence Against Women— further underscore the Mount’s commitment to equity and holistic student development.
Yet, even as these awards highlight our achievement, the shifting federal landscape has brought sobering challenges. The federal government’s decision to eliminate appropriated funds across several competitive grant programs—impacting Hispanic-Serving and Minority-Serving Institutions like UMSV most directly—threaten not only institutional stability, but also the students who rely on these programs to realize their personal and professional potentials.
The University of Mount Saint Vincent remains steadfast in its advocacy and innovation. As President Burns affirmed in her September 2025 op-ed published in The Hill we will continue to amplify the voices of our students and ensure that their opportunities are not defined by shifting policies. With the ongoing support of our philanthropic partners—and our community’s commitment to resilience—the Mount will press all ways forward in building futures defined by access, equity, and transformative education.
FOUNDATION AWARDS
In July 2024, the Booth Ferris Foundation awarded the University a two-year grant totaling $200,000 to support the establishment of Seton College. The first payment of $100,000 was received in July 2024, immediately benefiting the construction of the Seton College space on the fifth floor of Founders Hall.
The Hearst Foundation extended its support of the University of Mount Saint Vincent with an award of $100,000 in March 2025. The grant benefits the ongoing operational costs of Seton College and its programmatic efforts to ensure retention and persistence.
The Come To Believe Network continued its support of Seton College in fiscal year 2025, contributing $55,000 to enhance academic enrichment and career education initiatives for the first cohort of students.
The Carroll and Milton Petrie Foundation made the second installment of a two-year grant totaling $300,001 for Seton College. The Foundation’s support facilitated the implementation of Seton College’s integrated network of student support services— promoting academic achievement, personal development, and wellness.
The Raskob Foundation for Catholic Activities recently celebrated the 80th anniversary of its establishment and eight decades of thoughtful philanthropy to Catholic organizations. Mount Saint Vincent is proud to be a beneficiary of the Foundation’s support for several decades. In 2024-2025, the Foundation continued its tradition of awards made in memory of Yvonne Raskob, with a $15,000 grant in support of scholarships for nursing students.
Since 1999, the Arthur Williams Residuary Trust has provided annual support for scholarships for nursing students. In 20242025, the Trust extended its philanthropy to the Mount with a grant of $16,670.
GOVERNMENT AWARDS
The 2024-2025 academic year was the first year of a new five-year contract, providing $1.6 million annually, from the New York State Education Department to continue operating the Mount’s Arthur O. Eve Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). HEOP is designed for students who have the potential and drive to further their education, but—due to limited academic and financial resources—would not otherwise have the opportunity pursue post-secondary education.
During the 2024-2025 academic year, the University continued to be a participant in the Intelligence Community Centers for Academic Excellence, funded by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence. Funded through a sub-award from the University of New Hampshire, Associate Professor of Sociology Omar Nagi, PhD led the development of coursework and research projects that will cultivate the content knowledge and analytical reasoning skills necessary to equip students for careers in national security and intelligence gathering. Originally awarded as a fouryear project with an option for a four-year renewal, in July 2025 the Office of the Director of National Intelligence announced it would not release any additional funds to grantees, ending the program.
In 2024-2025, the University received $579,449, the third installment of what was to be a five-year Developing Hispanic-Serving
Institutions grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The grant sought to advance targeted initiatives designed to improve student success. In September 2025, the Department of Education announced it would not issue funds, appropriated by Congress, for new and continuing grants from the Minority Serving Institutions programs authorized by Titles III and V of the Higher Education Act. This action causes a loss of $1.1 million, expected over the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 academic years, to the University.
Academic year 2024-2025 was the final year of a five-year SSS/TRiO grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The Mount received $331,000 in the year to provide counseling, academic support, career and financial guidance, and mentoring to 160 eligible students. In July 2025, the University was notified that it had successfully competed for a five-year renewal, which will fund the program for 2025-2026 through 2029-2030. If funded through the expected grant period, the new award will bring UMSV’s continuous operation of an SSS/TRiO program to 33 years.
Academic year 2024-2025 was the final year of the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) threeyear grant to the University of Mount Saint Vincent in recognition of its efforts to create and maintain a safe and healthy campus community by implementing systems and educational activities that reduce sexual assault, domestic violence, and stalking. The grant provided $269,000 over three years. The Mount had also received support during the program’s two previous grant cycles. In all, Mount Saint Vincent benefited from nearly $900,000 in OVW grants since 2016.
