It was a wet and stormy night.
Elder and Berry were about to say their prayers.
‘Let’s put our paws together for God,’ said Elder.
In a big, loud voice, Berry began, ‘God, the friend of little bears . . . ’
‘Why are you shouting?’ asked Elder.
‘So that God can hear me over the storm,’ said Berry.
‘You don’t need to worry,’ said Elder gently, ‘because . . .
. . . God can always hear our prayers.’
Berry thought about this, and asked,
‘Even if . . .
. . . I whisper?’
‘Yes, God is always listening,’ said Elder.
Berry thought some more, and asked, ‘What if . . .
. . . I’m somewhere really noisy?
Or what if I just think in my head?’
‘Yes,’ said Elder. ‘God even hears your thoughts. God loves you and is always ready to listen.
God loves to listen when you are happy
and full of joy.
He
wants to hear when you are sad or worried,
when you are sorry,
God is always listening.’ or when you need . . . . . . help!
So Berry and Elder put their paws together again, and said softly,
‘God, the friend of little bears, keep me in your loving care. Be my guide in all I do. Bless all those who love me too.’
‘Oh
no!’ said Berry. ‘What if God has gone to bed? He won’t hear my prayer.’
‘God doesn’t go to bed,’ said Elder with a smile.
‘He is with us always, when we’re awake,
when we’re sleepy and even when we’re tucked up
fast asleep in bed.’
Berry wants to say a bedtime prayer, but what if God can’t hear over the storm? And what if God has already gone to bed?
A heartwarming story for young children about talking to God, who loves to listen to our prayers.
