Looking for a truly unique weekend getaway?

With 48 hours in Palisade, you can experience our special blend of orchards, vineyards, and small-town charm splashed across a western Colorado background. Go from sipping wine to outdoor adventuring without missing a beat. In Palisade, you’ll find chic B‘n’Bs, over 30 wineries, farm-to-table meals, fruit ripe for picking, and a high desert mountain biker paradise.

Get your blood flowing with a yoga session at Blue Pig Gallery. Before a full day of wine tasting, water sports, and farm tours, stretch it out surrounded by curated, local art. A Pilates Mat class is offered each Wednesday at 9 a.m., Thursday at 5:30 p.m., and Saturday at 9 a.m. Bring your mat, water bottle, and yourself! All levels are welcome.

Picture this: you, eating hand-selected cheeses paired with delicious, cured meats while enjoying views of the majestic Bookcliffs and listening to the gentle roll of the Colorado River.Interested? We recommend a leisurely afternoon at Riverbend Park with lunch provided by the talented charcuterie artists at Palisade Picnic Co.

Summers in Palisade can get hot. The Colorado River is a great way to cool off, and its Class I rapids in the Palisade and Grand Junction area make it ideal for paddle boarding, kayaking, rafting, and leisurely floats.

Even better than a float on the river? One where you get to stop for cocktails! Float up to Clark and Co. Distilling. We recommend sipping on a butterfly lemonade (butterfly gin with lavender, lemonade, and fresh lemon) on the shaded patio. 7

Biking is one of the best ways to experience our local agriculture and seasonal wares. Palisade has three unique loops ranging from 5 to 25 miles of the ‘Fruit and Wine Byway’ that pass by most of our orchards and wineries. Sample fruits, purchase produce or jams, stop in a tasting room and meander your way back to town at your own pace. Route maps, which outline the roads and list the optional stops along the way, can be found at VisitPalisade. com or the Palisade Chamber of Commerce.

8 Palisade Colorado Adventure Guide A WEEKENDER GUIDE 48 HOURS IN PALISADE

Palisade is well-known for its wineries; no weekend trip is complete without sampling at least a few. Drive to the tasting rooms yourself or hand off designated driver duties to a professional tour by expert guide, limo, pedicab, trolley, or horse-drawn carriage. Our local tour companies know the area and can help you hit wineries that meet your preferences. Don’t forget about our orchards and farms. Stop to pick lavender, take a walk with alpacas, or pick fresh fruit in between tastings! We look forward to welcoming you to our Colorado getaway—after all, life tastes good here! Before You Take The Plunge

• BE PREPARED TO PEDAL. A LOT. The course has black diamond sections and there are a lot of quick ups and downs, blind corners, sandy road beds, extreme exposure and even though the total descent is over 6,000 ft. calling it a ‘Plunge’ is VERY deceiving.

• START FROM SHIRTTAIL unless you’re an advanced + rider and prepared for “epic brutality”.

• BRING LOTS OF WATER. If you think you’ve got enough? Pack more. There are no water stations along the way.

• GET AN EARLY START. The full ride will take 5-6 hours for most experienced riders. It is not uncommon for afternoon temperatures to be in the high 90’s during the summer months. July and August temperatures can even reach the low hundreds.

• HONOR THE HARD WORK that went into building the trail and keep yourself safe. Do not ride the trail during, or recently after, inclement weather.

• ALWAYS TELL SOMEONE you’re going. Better yet? Don’t ride alone.

• STAY THE COURSE. Do not attempt to take shortcuts or utilize access roads as they may take you further from your destination. Cell service is limited to non-existent.Pay attention to trail signs and use a GPS communication device.

• THE BIKE MATTERS. Janky bikes will get destroyed and leave you stranded. E-Bikes are prohibited.

• SHUTTLE SERVICE is highly recommended. It’s an hour+ drive up to retrieve your vehicle.

The Plunge is closed from December 1stMay 1st every year. 11

Palisade Art Scene

Palisade is widely known for its creative atmosphere, starting with the galleries. The Blue Pig and the Craig Gallery are home to over 80 local artists. Discover the area’s fine art, jewelry, textiles, glass, ceramics and more.

Outdoor Public Sculpture

Palisade Art Vision, PAV, now in its 8th season, exhibits 6 to 10 new sculptures along with a dozen permanent pieces. Most pieces are on Third and Main St. But don’t miss the iconic Lyle Nichols’ sculptures around town and the Fruit & Wine Trail. They’ll make you smile.
