48 HOURS AROUND CLEAR LAKE

A warm welcome to Lake County! We’re delighted—but not surprised—you’ve stopped by, because this idyllic wine and watersports destination is coming into its own. Toss a grape out of Napa or Sonoma and it may just land here, but those fancy neighbors feel a world away. Lake County puts the country in wine country, as we like to say, and to visit these parts is to encounter the wild heart of rural California. Here, you can breathe some of the cleanest air in the nation while cruising around the state’s largest freshwater lake—and never hit traffic. You can hop around to 20 plus family-owned wineries and drink Napa-quality Cabernet for a fraction of the price. You can roll up to a farmstand selling saffron-infused lemonade and pay on the honor system.

HISTORY OF LAKE COUNTY POMO INDIANS

The Pomo Tribes, renowned among Native American Indians, resided in a vast territory in Northeastern California that stretched from the Pacific Coast to Clear Lake. Although each tribe obtains a historical name that is ancestral, the United States recognizes these tribes as Pomo.

The Lake County Pomo Indians have lived and thrived in the Clear Lake Region for more than 22,000 years pre-colonial contact. They were renowned for their skills in fishing, hunting, and exquisite basket weaving using native plants from the lakeshore, to include feathers, tule grass, twined grasses, willow, bird feathers and shell beads. They also gathered native plants such as acorns and tule shoots for sustenance as well.

The Lake County Pomo tribes also obtained a monetary system where they crafted shell beads and magnesite that was in essence “minted” along the shorelines. In fact, the name “Pomo” is derived from the word “Po” (shell beads / Money) and “Mo” (is the underground oven that bakes the magnesite)

Around the year 1800, it was believed that there were between 10,000 to 18,000 Pomo individuals spread across 70 tribes who spoke seven different Pomo languages. The Lake County Pomo obtained upwards of 29 different villages, tribes, and bands around the lake pre-colonial contact, where they are now recognized as, The Big Valley Rancheria, Middletown Rancheria, The Elem Indian Colony, The Koi Nation, The Habematolel Pomo of Upper

A dormant, hike-worthy volcano rises over it all, and the tight-knit communities ringing the lake offer quaint lodgings, farm-to-table restaurants, serene nature parks and quirky attractions. From the drive-in movie theater to the lunch box museum, the world’s largest geothermal energy complex and the annual Pear Festival, this place is a hoot. If you’ve got two days to play, here’s how we suggest passing the time around Clear Lake.

From the Konocti County Park parking lot, a moderately challenging 3-mile hike leads you through an enchanting oak forest and past historical sites on the way to the volcano’s highest point, Wright Peak, from which you can glance over the enormous lake and surrounding agricultural land.

Lake County has emerged as a top spot for wine enthusiasts, boasting more than 30 family-owned wineries

Rise early to take full advantage of this nature lover’s haven, where fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking and birding are all easy to access. If you’re in Kelseyville, fuel up on caffeine and a croissant at Studebaker’s Coffee House, then consider a morning hike

The shallow, ancient lake features more than 100 miles of shoreline and is the largest natural freshwater lake wholly within California (Tahoe is bigger, but it lies partly in Nevada). As you glance over the Clear Lake Basin, try to envision it 10,000 years earlier, when the Pomo tribe hunted these forests and fished the lake and creeks. view were established in the mid-1800s, when European settlers arrived, but today six tribes of Pomo descendants remain, as does an abundance of wildlife. Bear, deer and elk roam these fertile hunting grounds, and Clear Lake is known for some of the best bass fishing in the west. Anglers also cast their rods for catfish, bluegill, crappie and carp, both in the lake and on Cache Creek. Right on the creek, Clear Lake Campground is a great place for fishing enthusiasts to camp out, but it’s also an ideal morning stop for birders and kayakers. You’ll paddle alongside Anderson Marsh State Historic Park, a marshland set aside to protect artifacts of the Pomo people, while water fowl, including ospreys, mallards, herons and grebes—which build floating nests in the early summer—glide past. On your way in or out, hit up Danny’s Roadside Kitchen for a delicious takeaway BBQ lunch, which you can feast on at the campground’s shaded, creekfront picnic tables.

ENJOYING THE GREAT OUTDOORS AROUND CLEAR LAKE

Clear Lake beckons visitors with an array of outdoor pursuits and leisure activities to delight in. Whether your interest lies in fishing, camping, boating, or hiking, this picturesque locale caters to all tastes. A standout feature of Clear Lake is its renown as a top-tier bass fishing locale, drawing anglers nationwide seeking the thrill of reeling in trophy-sized bass from California’s largest natural lake. The plentiful fish population and stunning lake vistas make it a must-visit for fishing enthusiasts. For those inclined towards camping, Clear Lake California offers a plethora of options to satisfy every camper’s desires. The region boasts numerous campgrounds and RV parks equipped with various amenities like picturesque lake panoramas, picnic spots, and hiking trails. Spending a night under the starlit sky amidst nature is an unforgettable experience that camping aficionados will cherish. Clear Lake enjoys a mild climate yearround, making it an ideal destination for outdoor activities in any season.

In the afternoon, head north through the lakeside village of Nice for a stop at the famous and Clark’s Collectibles Lunchbox Museum. The former firehouse contains more than 700 vintage lunchboxes, along with old toys, dolls, carnival items and other memorabilia, and co-owner Deb Clarke loves to tell visitors about her collection, which she’s been building since 1985. If it’s a hot summer day, don’t hesitate to drive through Upper Lake and over to the Blue Lakes, a pair of deep spring-fed lakes where you can cool off. The Lodge at the Blue Lakes rents all sorts of water toys, including inner tubes, kayaks, paddleboards, hydrobikes, and even electric boats, which anyone can captain.

Conclude a perfect day with American fare at the Tallman Hotel restaurant, Blue Wing Saloon, where you can cozy up on the veranda and be serenaded by live music over dinner.

DAY 2

Begin the day right with a stroll around a green space. There are nearly 30 parks in Lake County, along with two top-notch golf courses and innumerable farms and gardens, some of which are open to the public. At Peace & Plenty Farm, North America’s largest producer of saffron, you can wander the gardens and pick up farm flowers and other products at the honor-system farm stand. While you’re out that way, definitely check out Clear Lake State Park, a 560-acre lakefront park with a visitor center, a museum and lots to do, including camping, hiking, swimming and fishing. If you really want some tranquility, though, venture over to Mendocino National Forest, an expanse of nearly a million acres with

no paved roads, where you can camp in a tent or cabin, hike rugged, primitive trails or off-road on an ATV.

Do lunch at the local favorite RED’S @ the Skyroom, an iconic airport restaurant featuring seasonal cocktail and salads and from-scratch California comfort food. Then cruise south through Lower Lake to the Calpine Geothermal Visitor Center, where you can tour the largest geothermal energy complex in the world and learn how its plants, The Geysers, generate clean, renewable energy for customers in 23 states (and also Canada and Mexico). Reward yourself for becoming informed with a dip in the thermal pools at Harbin Hot Springs, a clothing-optional institution with a spring-fed pool area, eight baths of varying temperatures, a sauna and a sundeck spread over 1700 acres. You can even stay the night in a tent or reserve a dome or hilltop cottage. Alternatively, take the afternoon to visit wineries and vineyards, and taste some of the unique wines born of the region’s Mediterranean microclimates and rich volcanic soil. There are about 20 plus wineries dotting the hillsides around the lake, and their high-quality Cabernet and Sauvignon Blanc grapes often land in bottles with Napa labels on them. Around here, the tasting fees are incredibly reasonable though, and even those are usually waived if you purchase a bottle or two.

One of the most distinctive operations is Six Sigma, a historic ranch and winery spread across more than 4000 acres in Lower Lake, where you can sip on a full-bodied cab or an earthy tempranillo

This hall offers a captivating and informative look into the world of geothermal energy through interactive displays that are designed to pique your interest. Additionally, there are Community Tours available to explore The Geysers area in Lake County, a place steeped in both folklore and geological history. Thousands of years ago, magma came close to breaching the Earth’s surface in this region, causing the top layer of rock to become fragile and allowing water to seep down towards the molten mass below. Over time, this process created a vast reservoir of hot steam. Eventually, the weakened rock gave way under pressure, releasing untamed geothermal energy into the atmosphere. Native Americans once revered this area for its alleged healing properties and used it for important ceremonies. In the 1800s, The Geysers were rediscovered by explorers who were both fascinated and intimidated by its natural wonders. Despite being initially dubbed as Gates of Hades by one early visitor, The Geysers quickly became a popular tourist destination attracting travelers from far and wide. However, like morning fog dissolving under sunlight, the tourist interest eventually waned over time. Energy companies initiated efforts in 1960 to harness the untamed power of The Geysers. This region has become a key player in producing sustainable energy in California through geothermal sources. Currently, The Geysers contribute approximately 21% of California’s renewable energy output.

MIDDLETOWN

Middletown originally served as the stage stop between the towns of Lower Lake and Calistoga, where miners and cowboys would spend a night before switching stages and heading on their way. In the hundred and fifty years since, Middletown has become a destination in its own right, combining elements of the West with an artistic vibe. Just down the street from the still-used hitching posts and the fragrant smoke of Barbecue by Biasotti, you’ll find the MAC, a community hub filled with local artwork and regular live music. At the beginning of each month, they celebrate First Fridays, and the town comes alive; a few blocks away on Friday evenings, you’ll find Middletown’s thriving farmers’ market, where it’s possible to pick up a wide selection of locally grown and handcrafted items. If you’re looking for some great gaming and live music, stop by Twin Pine Casino, which not only has great dining options but also regularly hosts concerts. But one of the special parts of Middletown

HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE

Home to Lake County’s only eighteen-hole golf course, Hidden Valley Lake is a great location for its residents to enjoy a scenic work drive through wine country into Santa Rosa or Napa Valley. Only five minutes from Middletown, it’s a world apart. While you’re there, be sure to grab a bite to eat at the Greenview Restaurant Located on the golf course, it’s a perfect pre- or post-game watering hole.

NORTH SHORE

(Clearlake Oaks, Nice, Glenhaven, Lucerne)

For spectacular views of North America’s oldest lake, look no further than the drive on Highway 20 from Clearlake Oaks to Nice. The road winds along Clear Lake,

providing ample spots to pull over and get great photos of Mt. Konocti. And if you’re lucky enough to visit in spring, the mountainsides fill with the red, yellow, pink, and orange colors of massive wildflower blooms. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Be sure to take a short detour from Clearlake Oaks up to High Valley, where you can explore the grounds of Brassfield Estate Winery. Bring a picnic lunch, or if you prefer, grab some Chinese takeout from Happy Garden before you head up the mountain. Leaving Clearlake Oaks, you’ll head towards Lucerne, which has two great options to launch a boat or sit and enjoy the sunshine: Alpine and Harbor parks. And if you’ve got a second, stop by Lakeside Arts and Gifts, a shop filled with locally crafted items. Nice, the next the afternoon. Located on Cache Creek, the campground is a great launching pad for a day of exploration. And if you’re looking for local produce and great food, be sure to stop by the Farmers’ Market.

It’s a proven geological phenomenon that rain falling on Mount Konocti never drains into any creek or river, but is absorbed into the mountain

And if you’re looking for something completely different and unique, you have to stop by the Lunchbox Museum, an eclectic collection of retro lunchboxes and classic Americana. Odds are, after all the fun, you’ll be tired, so grab a room and spend the evening enjoying the slots at Robinson Rancheria Resort and Casino before continuing your journey.

Did you know? ...that from 1850 to 1852, all of the territory now known as Lake County was part of Mendocino County? In 1852, Napa and Mendocino Counties divided Lake County through the center of the lake. In 1855, Napa County took control of all of Lake County. On May 20, 1861 what is known today as Lake County was established.

ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT

For a small rural county near the end of the north coast wine trail, Lake County has a surprisingly rich variety of arts and entertainment venues to help occupy time on your first visit and to give you good reason to return.

HWY 29 CORRIDOR

If you approach Lake County from the south along the Hwy 29 wine trail, you’ll find the small township of Middletown at the base of Mount Saint Helena. It’s home to Calpine Corporation , one of the leading producers of geothermal energy in the country. Its visitor center at 15500 Central Park Road is full of interesting exhibits, describing geothermal technology and how electricity is generated from one of the world’s largest underground steam reserves.

Just up the road is the Middletown Art Center, home of EcoArts of Lake County. It features art exhibits, local native American cultural exhibits, weaving classes and ECOARTS sculpture walks. Info@MiddletownArtCenter.org

In mid-June, don’t miss the Middletown Days Parade, as well as the Hidden Valley Lake Concerts on the Green on weekends monthly from May to September. Hidden Valley Lake Golf Course is the only 18 hole course in the county. Next stop on Hwy29 is Lower Lake. The Memorial Day Lower Lake Daze Parade and Street Festival is always a fun family outing. Stroll Main Street for a taste of old Lake County, including the town jail, possibly the smallest in the country, as well as the historic Lower Lake School House Museum

If you continue up Hwy 29 to the Soda Bay Road intersection, turn right it will take you to the historic Ely Stage Stop and Country Museum . Built in the mid-1800’s, this was one of the way- points for freighters and stage coach passengers traveling to and from Clear Lake and the Napa Valley and Bay Area. It has been relocated from its original site on Hwy 29 and fully restored by the County of Lake and managed by the the Lake County Historical Society and is chock full of exhibits and historic memorabilia. It is

also home to the monthly Fiddlers’ Jam. elystagestop.com

Back on Hwy 29, located in the shadow of Lake County’s only dormant volcano, Mount Konocti, is the pioneer town of Kelseyville, the little town that doesn’t sleep. The Kelseyville Business Association makes sure there is something happening every season. If it’s Father’s Day, it’s Lake County Beer, Wine and Swine Baconfest . Main Street is blocked and food vendors offer all things bacon. Pork belly candy to bacon ice cream, Baconfest is a bacon lover’s paradise. The town’s quaint boutiques put everything on sale and the wine and beer establishments are standing room only. Make sure you stop by the historic Brick Tavern for your favorite mixed drink.

September signals the end of the pear harvest in Lake County, which means it’s time for the Kelseyville Pear Festival. Since the first festival in 1993, it has entertained thousands of visitors from all over the world. Shop the many craft booths, watch the famous tractor parade and dine on every pear delicacy under the sun. Held on the fourth Saturday of September, the event is preceded the night before with a sit-down Farm-to-Fork dinner on Main Street, featuring locally grown produce and farm-raised meats prepared by local chefs and served family style.

In mid-September is the Mexican celebration of Dia de la Independencia , marking Mexico’s declaration of independence from Spain in 1810. Again, Main Street is the focal point for traditional dance and music demonstrations as well as food vendors serving up delicious Mexican specialty foods.

In December is the magical “Christmas in the Country and Parade of Lights.” Dozens of decorated floats, lighted big rigs, fire trucks and farm tractors parade along

PUMPKIN PARADISE

Between Kelseyville and Lakeport is THAT Ranch, a pumpkin patch and corn maze that opens in the fall. Over 100 varieties of pumpkin squash are available for the picking. The kids will have a ball filling wheelbarrows with their favorite carving pumpkins. There are farm and tractor trains, two apple cannons to test your marksmanship and dozens of midway games to occupy the kids. Main Street. Wine and beer pubs and restaurants are packed and make for great viewing and fellowship. visit kelseyville.com

Kelseyville is also home to Clear Lake State Park on Soda Bay Road. Camp sites can be reserved in one of four campgrounds and there are guided interpretive tours, as well as the self-guided Indian Nature Trail. Lots of fishing opportunities and an expansive sandy beach make for a fun family outing. Just up the road at Hwy 29 and Argonaut Lane Thomas Dr is Shannon Family of Wines The Mercantile. Aside from being a great wine tasting and music venue, it is also the home of “Sat-

urday Market at The Mercantile.” It is a year-round farmer’s market featuring locally grown produce, baked goods and crafts starting at 10 a.m. rain or shine. lakecountyfarmersfinest.com.

On the northwest shore of Clear Lake is Lakeport, the county seat and a magnet for year-round arts and entertainment. From June running through August are free Concerts in the (Library) Park . This lakefront venue features bands from near and far every Friday evening beginning at 6 p.m. There are food trucks and many restaurants in the vicinity or you can pack your own food and drink. The same park hosts the Lake County

DANCING IN THE STREETS

During summer months, the town of Kelseyville closes Main Street every third Thursday for its “Kickin’ in the Country” street dance. Great local bands, as well as regional headliners, keep things hopping starting at 6 p.m. Bring your boots and cowgirl bling!

Along Lakeport’s Main Street are numerous quaint shops, antique stores, the Lake County Courthouse Museum main branch, which holds a treasure trove of exhibits, photos and native American artifacts, and the Lake County Arts Council Main Street Gallery. The historic Soper Reese Theater hosts many screen and stage performances during the year. Lakeport is the perfect destination for families with kids. Not only is there easy access to the lake with

three public boat launch ramps and boat and jet ski rentals, but the new downtown Xabatin Community Park was completed in 2023 and offers a summer splash pad, jungle gyms, skate board obstacles and a basketball court. The Lakeport Main Street Association organizes the annual Memorial Day Parade down Main Street. Entering the county from the west brings you first to Blue Lakes, with its stunning deep blue waters and world-class rain bow trout fishery. You can also tour the lake in one of the electric patio boats at The Lodge at Blue Lakes. Next is the charming town of Upper Lake, where the entertainment and unique vibe to this lit tle hamlet is centered at the historic man Hotel on Main Street . Built in the late 1800’s, the hotel fell into disrepair but was purchased in 2003 and restored by Lynne and Bernie Butcher to its original elegance. During the year the hotel and adjacent Blue Wing Restaurant & Saloon stage weekly live music performances in the pub and, in the warmer months, outdoors in the shaded courtyard. In the off season, the hotel’s Riffe’s meeting

house hosts Concerts With Conversation where you can get close and mingle with performing artists. Their main attraction, though, each year is the three-day Blue Wing Blues Festival every Labor Day weekend in the courtyard. Blues bands from all over converge in Upper Lake to light up the evening that also features a

delicious buffet dinner, drinks and dancing up close to the performers.

The renovation of the Tallman spurred a renaissance on Main Street where you can now wander through specialty and antique shops to browse for that special gift.

Travelling east on Hwy 20 are the communities of Nice and Lucerne, named for their counterparts in France and Switzerland. They offer a number of consignment and thrift stores to browse, as well as several lakefront parks. Likewise in the next town, Clearlake Oaks, the eastern most Lake County destination.

Clearlake

Located at the southeast end of Clear Lake off Hwy 50, it is a great jumping off spot for water sports. You’ll find everything on Lakeshore Dr., including first class boat launching facilities at Redbud Park , from where competition bass fishing tournaments launch several times a year. Continuing down the drive are Highlands Park and Austin Park, with playground facilities and sandy beach access to the lake. Don’t miss their summer concert series.

Cobb Mountain

Bravely rebuilding after the devastating Valley Fire in 2015, the community of Cobb stages its annual Blackberry Festival in August, featuring blackberry cobblers, ice cream, mouth-watering BB, live music, beer and wine and a play area for the kids. n

12 STEPS TO STARTING A

Starting a business involves a great deal of planning, making key financial decisions and completing a series

Writing a business plan (including a financial plan) solidifies how your business will operate and allows you to communicate your ideas to collaborators and investors. The Lake County Economic Development Corporation (Lake EDC) can provide free business advisors to help with the process. Learn more here by visiting www.lakecountycaedc.org.

A financial plan for your business should be based on information from your business plan (in fact, it may even be part of your business plan) and include financial projections, financing needs, and a plan for contingencies. There are many different resources available to meet your business’s financial needs, including government-backed loans. Reach out to the Lake EDC (www.lakecountycaedc.org) for more information.

Marketing takes time, money, and lots of preparation. One of the best ways to prepare yourself is to develop a solid marketing plan. A strong marketing plan will ensure you’re not only sticking to your schedule, but that you’re spending your marketing funds wisely and appropriately. The days of opening up a business and expecting customers to walk in are gone. You will need a healthy marketing budget and a strategic marketing plan to include social media on multiple platforms, website development, content creation, SEO maximization, and content maintenance to ensure utmost visibility for your business.

The location of your business can have a significant impact on its success. Be sure to choose a location that is accessible and convenient for your target audience. It’s also important that the property is properly zoned for your use. Check with the jurisdiction to make sure the use is compliant with the current zoning.

Once you have your tax identification number, you can then register with your state to obtain a state tax identification number. Registering for state and local taxes is required by law in most areas and can vary depending on your location and industry. The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration is a good place to start: https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/.

State: Be sure to research and obtain all necessary state licenses and permits. While registering for the appropriate taxes on the state website ( https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/), you may also view a listing of registrations required for different industries and the associated state agency. Be sure to follow up with each agency individually to make sure you are compliant.

Local: The County of Lake does not require a business license. However, if you are located in or plan to do business in the City of Lakeport or the City of Clearlake, you will need to get a license from those jurisdictions.

of legal activities. Listed below are 12 easy steps that will help you plan, prepare and manage your business.

The Lake County Chamber of Commerce (LCCC) offers a number of events, workshops, and networking activities to provide resources and advice for you whether you are opening a new business or expanding or relocating an existing one. Call (707) 263-5092 or visit www.LakeCoChamber.com for more information.

Determining a legal structure for your business is important for tax and liability purposes. Your advisor can help outline the options, and legal professionals will help to determine the best structure for your business.

If you choose a name for your business that does not include your own legal surname, California State law requires you to file a fictitious name statement to ensure the public knows with whom they are conducting business. You will need to register with the County of Lake Clerk’s Office. Find out more here: https://www.lakecountyca.gov/186/Fictitious-Business-Names

REGISTER A BUSINESS NAME (“DOING BUSINESS AS”)

Obtaining insurance coverage can protect your business from unforeseen events and liabilities. Shop around! Check rates online and talk to a local broker. Understand the need for each type of insurance and work with a professional to get the proper amount and type of coverage.

Obtaining a tax ID number is necessary for tax purposes and to open a business bank account. To find out more visit: irs.gov

Understanding employer responsibility is crucial if you plan on hiring employees. You will also need to ensure that you have workers’ compensation insurance. Recent California laws require you to carefully consider if a worker should be classified as an employee or an independent contractor. Be sure to comply with all labor laws and regulations to avoid liability and legal issues. For current wage requirements, visit https://www.dir.ca.gov/dlse/faq_minimumwage.htm

Located midway between the Pacific Coast and the Central Valley, Lake County rarely experiences coastal or valley fog. This translates into lots of sunshine. In fact, Lake County sees, on average, approximately 265 days of clear or partly clear skies, with an approximate annual average of 78% of possible sunshine. Lake County has the cleanest air in California as certified by the State’s Air Resource’s Board and an abundance of spring water; there are several bottled water companies in Lake County.

Clear Lake, estimated at 2.5 million years old, is thought to be the oldest lake in North America — and quite possibly the world.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE IN LAKE COUNTY

Did you know that Lake County is working to become one of the healthiest places in the world to live? Blue Zones Project - Lake County is halfway through its mission to make Lake County Blue Zones certified. The Blue Zones was founded by adventurer and author Dan Buettner, who studied the nine healthiest and long-lived regions on Earth and saw what they were doing well. Blue Zones took the principles of these people, cultures, and diets and is bringing them to Lake County. This project makes visiting Lake County a healthy choice not only when you explore the many outdoor opportunities and dining experiences available but also should you choose to make Lake County your home.

Lake County has several Blue Zones-approved restaurants, such as the Saw Shop Public House and Blue Wing Saloon , that take pride in offering healthy dining options. Don’t worry; these healthy choices don’t skimp on flavor, quality, or diminish the food experience. And because wine is Blue Zones-approved, your dinner out promises to be spectacular when paired with a glass of local Cabernet, but make sure it’s Six Sigma and Boatique as they are both Blue Zones approved. Lake County also offers several Blue Zones-approved workplaces, schools, and grocery stores, ensuring that healthy living is a way of life around here. Lake County is also home to several medically acclaimed facilities to ensure your well-being. South Lake County

proudly serves its community through Adventist Health Hospital and Lake County Tribal Health . Adventist Health Hospital is located conveniently just off Highway 53 in Clearlake, and several medical facilities throughout the countyarea offer both general and specialized care. Lake County Tribal Health’s newest clinic is located just off Olympic Drive in Clearlake, offering both Native and non-Native residents a variety of general practitioners and dental services.

Lake County Tribal Health has a second clinic in the heart of Lakeport, which offers fully staffed family medical care and dental services. Sutter Lakeside Hospital and Clinic resides at the north end of Lakeport and offers an

array of medical services for the whole family, including maternity care and the only trauma center and certified stroke center in Lake County. With so many options available, you are bound to find the perfect healthcare provider for you and your family’s needs.

Clearlake, Lakeport, Kelseyville, Clearlake Oaks, and Middletown all have vibrant community centers that actively support the area. Not only do these centers offer numerous social gatherings, classes, and clubs, but they also regularly open their doors to everyone, hosting events, craft circles, bazaars, theatre, and food benefits. Our community centers are engaging and thriving.

Rural Lake County is a great choice to live, work, and play. The Blue Zones Project ensures you can live a healthy lifestyle wherever you go, and our medical facilities and community centers are invested in the health and well-being of all of Lake County, a place that many medical professionals proudly call home. However long you are in Lake County, you can have peace of mind knowing that your health and well-being are also our priority.

EDUCATION IN LAKE COUNTY

Education is an investment of a lifetime and worth its weight in gold. Here in Lake County, we offer educational opportunities for everyone, from preschool to college. At each level of education, Lake County and its school districts look beyond the basic educational requirements but understand the need for a well-balanced learning experience; here students showcase their passion in 4-H, FFA, theatre, dance, martial arts, shop, robotics, and sports. And if you are looking for a high-quality, out-of-the-box educational experience for your children, look no further than our charter schools. Middletown in south Lake County is home to the Lake County International Charter School, and Shade Canyon Charter School in Kelseyville serves the north county. Both offer small classes, a unique curriculum, and caring teachers.

If you have ever dreamed of becoming a teacher, The Lake County Office of Education offers a high-quality teacher credentialing program. They provide the opportunity for you to teach and get your certification simultaneously. In addition, they have a Medical Assistant and Certified Nursing Program, so you can achieve your dream of working in the medical field.

Lake County is home to two community colleges. In Lakeport, Mendocino Community College has a campus branch that offers a wide variety of classes, including arts, theatre, creative writing, sciences, and a host of general education choices. Mendocino College works closely with the local high schools to offer college classes to the students, making it possible to get a high school diploma and twenty to thirty college credits simultaneously. In addition, they offer non-credit courses to community members, so if you’re looking to brush up on some painting skills or are interested in learning a new language, you can take a class for under $20. You’re never too old to take a college course just for fun.

In the south county, the Woodland Community College Clearlake campus branch offers a host of classes and opportunities to further your higher education. But it is best known for its incredible culinary program. This program has trained many of the top chefs in Lake County and is known for its quality and commitment to excellence. If you want to experience some of their food, the campus has an on-site cafe that offers a seasonally rotating menu. You can grab everything from a sushi bowl to coconut-crusted shrimp to high-end coffee there. In addition, the culinary program provides catering services for special events and holds a pie sale every fall. It’s worth taking the time to visit and see what they have to offer–but be sure to call ahead of time as the cafe’s schedule changes each semester. With so many educational choices, you can have peace of mind knowing that our community is invested in your passions and desires for education for you and your children. Lake County offers quality education and advantages to make your dreams a reality. You can live, work, play, and learn in Northern California’s best-kept secret! Who said you can’t have it all? n
