JIM Reflection

THROUGH these 3 micro projects I had the opportunity to explore 3 different propositions for the data center along the way. They are all the topics and fields that I am interested in. I think with Mirco Project 1 I could relate more to the Mars wording we are setting at the first. And then with Mirco Project 2, the combined model is really interesting with the glass columns and the metal-organic structures that go through the building. But our worlding maybe need to

“It is necessary not only to consider its generic function or form but also, more importantly, its individuality and the continuity of its form, which persists even after the original use ceases.”

“Architecture is always, in the first instance, a transformation of a landscape”

SAN Reflection

As a reflection across the three micro projects the main preposition that ran through project is data center becoming this central place of gathering and it’s importance to how future society is ran, a heavy focus on everything becoming digitalized due to real world issues. But having the by produce of sustainability that comes into play and the heavy use of energy which is a big issue that surrounds data centers. In relation to the types and systems took more than one time in order to work but overall satisfied with the final result. The last micro project in my opinion produced the best outcomes in relation to type and it’s relation to the system as it produced a circulation that would be ideal for a data center as it effectively organized the data and the system is logical to how people would move within the space.

Typology

Ancient Greek temples were not built as a place of worship like the sanctuaries and altars were. Instead, it was considered the home of the deity it was dedicated to, who helped to protect and sustain the communities the column is an import element of the building it not only serves a structure purpose to the building but also gave buildings a feeling of order, strength, and balance.

TYPE: JAPANESE “GAP” DWELLINGS

1.8M WIDTH HOUSE MATSUBARA HOUSE STAY RESIDENCE

Japanese gap apartments resided in voids on two homes. Giving the effect that these homes were just slotted in between these two homes due to the high demand for housing and how expensive land is getting. The contemporary issue of having not enough land for us to live in as the population also increases. Looking into these Japanese homes and how they effectively use the layout of their homes and spaces. In relation to the data center how data can effectively be built and use space like these Japanese homes? Being built into the city as we continue to have to build more and more housing, for people to live in.

Rule of Termites:

Termites have a collective behaviour and tend to modify their physical environment. The mounds take into account the environment around them, building efficiently to conform to the environment. In relation to data centres needing to be efficient in cooling, “The chilly breeze that brushes our face has set in motion a storm of infrastructure”. Looking into how to efficiently cool the infrastructure by looking to form.

Rules

1.By running the grasshopper script that randomised the placement and scale and by manipulating the density of the random pattern to generate the first layer.

2.Continuing part randomised placement a mound like structure occurs that stimulates the termite building.

3.Apply the Boolean union to merge overlapping structures together, this will create the wall of the structure. Deleting those pieces that aren’t overlapping to create communal spaces/ circulation.

Site analysis:

The Morlynn insulator factory is located in the outskirts of Melbourne city. Surrounded by residential homes adjacent to the railway. The atmosphere around is lively in juxtaposition to the old and run down factory. The factory was previously a manufacturing centre for insulation, now left abandoned and the walls overgrown with graffiti.

Concpets:

The current concerns of diminishing resources and the energy crisis. Our world is becoming more and more digitised with most of our information within the cloud/ online. Data centres are a crucial part of our daily lives as we now live on the cloud. We propose a residential power plant, this power plant aims to be self sufficient and to power the nearby suburbs through the use of cleaner energy resources.

3 Ways Of Generating Power

Pavegen

Photovoltaic Glass
Data Column

Pavegen’s patented system its a floor tile that can generate power when someone steps on it. it can produce around 3 joules of energy per footstep or up to 5 watts of power while someone is walking, enough to power applications such as environmental sensors, LED lighting, and screens, and for storage in batteries.

the data column has combined the data storage with a hydropower turbine at the bottom of the pipe, so while using the water to cool down the data box inside, it would also generate power. Also the water are all recyclied.

Photovoltaic glass is probably the most cutting-edge new solar panel technology that is set to transform the global solar energy landscape. Solar is no longer going to require extensive land parcels or unsightly roof spaces. These are transparent solar panels that can literally generate electricity from windows—in offices, homes, car sunroofs, or even smartphones.
