“Team Europe Initiative: Partners for Sustainable Tourism in Uganda”

Kampala-May 2025

Iam glad to inform that the European Union in Uganda is currently the Chair of the Tourism Development Partners Working Group (TDPWG) a coordination platform composed by the Team Europe Initiative (TEI ) and the World Bank.

For several years now, this donors’ group has been a steadfast partner with the Government of Uganda and the private sector in promoting tourism’s role in economic development, job creation, facilitating access to finance and fostering environmental stewardship in Uganda.

We have witnessed substantial progress over the years, with increased investment and infrastructure development in tourism hotspots, the enhancement of communitybased tourism initiatives, and the preservation of critical ecosystems. However, there is plenty of work to do yet to unleash the full potential of the Ugandan tourism value chain at all levels, national, regional and internationally.

As stated in our report “Towards a sustainable tourism economy in Uganda” launched last year at the EU-Uganda Business Forum, our understanding of the tourism sector value chain goes beyond hospitality and tour operations and proposes that a proper market system analysis should include subsectors as transport, food & beverage, crafts & souvenirs, events & attractions and the whole creative industry with its support services.

We also consistently link our tourism projects to the natural environment protection agenda with the believe that sustainable tourism is a guarantor of nature and biodiversity preservation.

In financial terms, the current combined portfolio of the TDPWG is probably around EUR 100 million, with at least another EUR 30 million in the pipeline. This support supplements the Government of Uganda budget to address the challenges of the sector like significant decent work deficits, particularly among women, youth, and MSMEs in rural areas, lack of skills and training

required to meet international standards, poor infrastructure, especially road connectivity to key tourist destinations, limited access to digital payment systems, inadequate regulatory frameworks for sustainable tourism practices, limited access to financing and several others challenges identified in the revised version of the Uganda Tourism Policy now pending cabinet approval.

Let me finish by congratulating the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife

and Antiquities, and its ancillary agencies UWA and UTB, for the current edition of the POATE and their efforts to make Uganda a prime destination choice for travellers around the world.

I sincerely wish that this edition of POATE 2025, through its exhibits, panel discussions and networking amongst key players will mobilize high levels of private investments by presenting the opportunities offered by the country to local, diaspora and international

investors.

From our part, the EU and its Member States will continue to invest in sustainable tourism and support efforts to strengthen institutional capacity for tourism management, promote community involvement and work closely on initiatives to improve the standards and sustainability of the industry and ensure that the “Pearl of Africa” shines even brighter while remaining a beacon of sustainable and responsible tourism.

need to know

BASICS

Five things every business traveler should know before they book a business trip to Uganda

1STAY A WHILE

For Uganda, visits of less than three months on many passport sdon’t require any paperwork. Please check with the immigration website immigration.go.ug/passports for more information on requirements for your passport.

3MONEY, MONEY, MONEY

Many destinations, including Kenya, Tanzania and other neihbouring countries, have their own local currency but most accept US dollars. Uganda uses the Shilling. Although we accept Dollars, Rands and Euros.

4KEEPING WELL

Besides Yellow Fever, there aren’t any specific vaccinations required, visitors should check with their GPs to ensure that their vaccinations are up-todate and wear sun screen and mosquito spray.

5TAKE COVER

Make sure that your group has adequate insurance for all of the activities that they might take part in, even gentle activities like watersports, horse riding or zip-lining can require extra cover.

2POWER TRIP

Plug points throughout Uganda are by and large the

same as the UK – two flat prongs, or two flat prongs with a rounded grounding pin.

business travel INSIGHTS

Globally, the MICE market is tipped to exceed $2.3 billion by 2024 and Uganda is keen to grab a slice of the action.

These big-hitting figures come out of a study by Allied Market Research, a market research and advisory company of Allied Analytics LLP, which shows that the MICE tourism sector (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions) is experiencing impressive growth at a rapid pace, fuelled by international business travel and the rise in government initiatives.

With a legendary reputation for warm welcoming smiles and all-embracing hospitality, the main players in Uganda’s tourism sector are perfectly poised to capitalise on MICE tourism.

Spanning several square miles, the wow-appeal of Uganda’s paradisiacal locations are undeniable: a byword for laid-back decadence and unbeatable African allure. For the MICE market, Uganda offers planners an easy sell to delegates and attendees: a trip to paradise is not something many folk will turn down.

What’s more, the costs, the logistics and the infrastructure are highly competitive so organisationally it’s a major draw.

High-profile gatherings of heads of states, trade conventions, exhibitions, conferences and sales incentives all have their home here, with planners citing world-class MICE facilities, extra-curricular activities and regular direct flights from around the world as the reason.

Certainly there are plenty of activities for delegates to enjoy during downtime: incredible wildlife, culture, adventure and great food can be sighted from idyllic locations.

Visit working artisan studios, do some shopping or indulge in some pampering at a spa.

If your delegates are foodies, the gourmet restaurants, local food joints and bistros are certain to please. There are also some great live music venues, clubs and chic bars to meet the local people and dance to bands or mingle at a traditional event.

FIRST AND FOREMOST MICE has become a major focus for

Uganda as a whole, where dedicated teams of meeting planners boast first-rate local expertise. Not only do they book hotels and meeting space and secure the best speakers but they will also advise on food and beverage options, arrange shuttles and suggest quirky team building activities – an excellent proposition for anyone organising a truly worldclass MICE event.

Considerable investment by the members of the Hotel Owners Association of Uganda has expended its MICE niche with notable success, attracting the out of country business sector. Several hotel properties are capable of hosting MICE functions, with the largest able to accommodate 10,000 attendees. In addition, the

Meetings

There are many reasons resorts with golf courses and spas provide an excellent base for corporate meetings and events. Charity golf tournaments organized by corporations and providing important fundraising opportunities are an obvious one, but there are others.

Golf courses provide an easy networking venue — a sustained four or more hours where corporate groups can interact with clients, or managers can spend time with their teams and direct reports to assess leadership potential, zero in on problem areas, brainstorm solutions or get to know new hires. Even if there is no official tournament or golf built into the meeting, casual play on attendees’ own time can still offer valuable networking opportunities.

Spa time also has benefits. It can be a perk for

atmosphere and graciousness of the surroundings, the beautiful golf course, superb room accommodations, and a wonderful spa and staff who are ready to assist in any way to make attendees feel well taken care of.”

Considering the resort recently hosted the prestigious Uganda Open Golf Championship, during which top golfers compete, it’s not surprising that the golf course is a draw - but, it has always been a draw.

In terms of integrating golf into the conference, Lydia notes that golf and other breakout opportunities “allow the conference team much needed time - above and beyond.

Lake Victoria Serena Golf and spa offers the best of both worlds for planners looking for the perfect venue.

A splendid choice for anyone seeking a perfect blend of tranquility, comfort, and accessibility.

INVESTMENT PEARL MARINA ESTATES

Pearl Marina Estates is a premier 389-acre mixed-use development located on the Garuga Peninsula in Entebbe, Uganda. It boasts over 3 kilometers of Lake Victoria frontage, offering panoramic views of Africa’s largest lake.

Master-planned to integrate residential, commercial, hospitality, and recreational facilities, the estate aims to create a selfsustaining lakeside city that harmoniously blends luxury living with nature.

THE PROPERTY OPTIONS ON OFFER AT PEARL MARINA ESTATES

The estate offers a diverse range of properties to cater to various preferences and budgets, including:

• Apartments

• Bungalows

• Townhouses

• Villas

• Serviced Plots

These come in different sizes from Studio Apartments to 5 bedroom Villas.

EVOLUTION OF RESIDENTIAL PROPERTIES IN EAST AFRICA

Residential demand across East Africa has grown significantly, driven by rapid urbanization and a growing middle class. Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Rwanda have all seen increased investments and housing uptake. Kenya’s real estate sector grew by 33.7% (2019–2023) with consistent GDP contribution above 10% (KNBS). Uganda’s urban population is expanding at 5.3% annually (UN-Habitat), while Tanzania’s housing deficit exceeds 3 million units, pushing demand (National Housing Corporation). Rwanda’s Kigali city masterplan has spurred demand for affordable and midincome housing, supported by public-private initiatives (Rwanda Housing Authority).

Across the region, real estate Foreign Direct Investment( FDI) inflows average $250–300 million annually (TwentyFirst Real Estate), though affordability and access to finance remain key challenges. While Pearl Marina Estates contributes to increasing the housing stock, its offerings are primarily targeted at the mid to luxury market segment, with prices starting from USD 56,000 for apartments and reaching up to USD 280,000 for townhouses. Given the affordability constraints faced by the majority of Ugandans, the impact of such developments on alleviating the national

housing deficit is limited. To effectively address Uganda’s housing challenges, there is a need for increased investment in affordable housing solutions that align with the income levels of the broader population. This includes exploring innovative construction methods, providing subsidies, and implementing policies that encourage the development of cost-effective housing options.

WHAT CUSTOMERS PREFER

Recent trends indicate that consumers are increasingly seeking:

• Eco-friendly and sustainable living environments

• Integrated and secure gated communities with access to amenities such as schools, healthcare, and retail outlets

• Flexible financing options, including savings cooperatives and incremental building practices

These preferences reflect a shift towards holistic living experiences that combine comfort, convenience, and environmental consciousness.

COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE

Pearl Marina Estates is Uganda’s first-of-itskind, master-planned lakeside development uniquely positioned as one of the few integrated real estate projects of its scale in the country. Spanning 300 acres on the shores of Lake Victoria, it offers over 1.5 km of exclusive waterfront, blending luxury living with nature.

The estate integrates residential, commercial, hospitality, health, and recreational zones,

making it a self-sustaining eco-system.

Over 30% of the land is preserved for green spaces and nature trails, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability.

Strategically located just 22 km from Entebbe International Airport and 32 km from Kampala, and backed by Centum Investment Company Plc, Pearl Marina sets the benchmark for modern, eco-conscious, and inclusive real estate development in East Africa.

ECO-EFFORT & LUXURY

Sustainability is at the core of Pearl Marina’s development as well as the Live, Work, Play philosophy. The estate allocates over 30% of its land to green spaces, including parks and nature trails, to preserve the natural environment. Additionally, the design incorporates energy-efficient building practices and infrastructure that minimizes environmental impact, ensuring a luxurious yet eco-conscious living experience.

THE FUTURE

Pearl Marina Estates is actively expanding its offerings, with Phase 2 currently underway. We are currently doing off-plan sales for apartments, villas, townhouses and bungalows for Phase due to start construction in 2025. The future development plans include the addition of more residential units i.e. gated communities, enhanced commercial spaces, and upscale recreational facilities. The goal is to evolve into a fullyfledged lakeside city that caters to the diverse needs of residents and visitors alike. Crucial to these plans is the dedication to aligning with the Masterplan together with our investor partners, existing and potential clients

ONE WITH NATURE

An unexpected gorilla trekker’s paradise in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

The journey to Silverback Lodge begins long before you arrive. It starts with a whisper from the forest — a promise of something ancient, something stirring — and builds with each twist of Uganda’s winding roads. As the vehicle climbs toward the canopy-lined ridges of Buhoma, children wave exuberantly from the roadside. Their chorus of echoing “Hello!” and “Bye!” rings out like a song — innocent, rhythmic, and unfiltered joy as they run beside your vehicle. The motorbikes, “Boda bodas” pass with practiced ease, carving through the raw earthed roads and the highlands mists. The scent of fertile earth, the guttering dews mixes with eucalyptus and woodsmoke for scents unique to Bwindi. The road isn’t just a route. It’s a rite of passage.

At the forest’s edge, perched like a whisper among the trees, stands Silverback Lodge, now reborn. Once a simple outpost for gorilla trekkers, Silverback has been transformed by Marasa Africa into something rare — a front row seat to the canopywrapped mountains. Not merely a place to stay, but a place to feel. The kind of place that doesn’t just house guests, but hosts presence. Designed by the acclaimed HesseKleinloog (HK) Studio — the same visionary minds behind Singita Kataza House and Kwitonda Lodge — the architecture and interiors channel

SILVERBACK LODGE

CRAFTED CAREFULLY, THOUGHTFULLY, AND RESPECTFULLY INTO EVERY MATERIAL, EVERY RHYTHM, EVERY LINE OF SIGHT.

a quiet luxury that honours both land and legacy.

From the moment you enter the newly refurbished property, the atmosphere shifts. This is not a lodge trying to imitate Africa, or to transplant luxury into wilderness. It is Africa — crafted carefully, thoughtfully, and respectfully into every material, every rhythm, every line of sight. Its design is intentionally minimalist, as if to leave no trace — no carbon footprint — on the precious nature it inhabits.

The redesign pays homage to both Ugandan heritage and international sensibility. Conceptualised with clean, contemporary lines softened by natural textures, Silverback

blends the modernist restraint of architectural minimalism with the soul of its surroundings. Polished concrete floors, eucalyptus timber beams, expansive glass, and woven craft detail converge in a language that feels at once global and deeply local. One is struck by the deliberate absence of extravagance. Instead, there is something far more potent — clarity.

As you look out over the terraces, the forest breathes in and out like she lives, it’s as if you’re looking

at a fluffy giant deep asleep. This is Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and sanctuary for nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. The lodge’s name is no branding gimmick — it’s a vow. The silverback is not just a primate. He is a protector, pathfinder, and patriarch. The lodge carries his spirit. And here, the moment you visit, the mist appears, as if to echo to you “you are not just a guest. You are part of the journey”

THE MADHVANI LEGACY: HOSPITALITY WITH PURPOSE

Silverback Lodge is part of the Marasa Africa collection — a family of properties under the stewardship of the Madhvani Group, one of East Africa’s most respected and storied conglomerates. For the Madhvani family, conservation and community upliftment are not afterthoughts; they are foundational.

The transformation of Silverback wasn’t just a refurbishment. It was a movement — a bold reinvestment into the region, designed to create long-term sustainability for local livelihoods and wildlife alike. Through collaborations with organizations like Conservation Through Public Health (CTPH), the refugee Milaya project and Ride 4 a Woman, the project has breathed new life into local employment, women’s empowerment, and wildlife monitoring efforts. Over 90% of the lodge’s construction workforce was drawn from surrounding communities.

grunt of a gorilla. The interiors don’t speak loudly; they listen. Each element — from custom furniture to linen textures — is designed to disappear into the greater experience. The restaurant and a dining deck that floats over the forest. The scent of local coffee lingers in the air. At night, the accent lighting and fireflies flicker like memories. There is no rush here. Only rhythm.

But it’s not all silence and solitude. The sounds of children along the journey — their joy, their innocent curiosity — follow you here. You

Local woodworkers like Wood Flex, Ceramics central supplied handcrafted pieces. Content creators from the region were given a platform to capture and share the story of their home’s renaissance. It’s not just a lodge you’re stepping into. It’s a community’s pride made visible.

DESIGN THAT DISAPPEARS, EXPERIENCE THAT STAYS

The rooms are sanctuaries — elevated, glass-lined, and dressed in tones of Charcoal, stone, ash, and bark. They carry the hushed luxury of stillness, where the loudest sound is often a bird call or the distant

Remember how they ran beside your vehicle with that uniquely Ugandan openness.

“Bye!-Hello” they shouted with delight, not knowing you’d carry their laughter like a charm.

That’s the magic of this place — it reaches into you, long before the gorillas do.

THE AWE FILLED MOUNTAIN GORRILLA EXPERIENCE.

Of course, the pinnacle of any stay at Silverback is the gorilla tracking experience. Guests rise early, boots laced, hearts open, and set off into the forest.

The trek is not a tourist attraction — it’s a pilgrimage. And when you find them — those great, sentient beings — the air shifts. You understand, wordlessly, why this lodge had to exist. Why it had to be built here, now, and with this level of intention.

But the wonder doesn’t end with gorillas. There are forest elephants, L’Hoest’s monkeys, black-fronted duikers, and over 350 species of birds. 14 of these being exclusive to Bwindi. There’s the storytelling by local guides, the rituals of fire and food, and the quiet that rewires your brain.

WHAT IT MEANS TO ARRIVE WITH SILVERBACK

In an era of over-tourism, Silverback is a counterpoint — a reminder that true luxury is not abundance, but intentionality. That to arrive is not to consume, but to connect. Marasa Africa has achieved something remarkable here. Silverback Lodge is not a replication of bush luxury. It is a

redefinition. A place where architecture bows to the forest. Where heritage and innovation are not opposites, but allies. Where hospitality is not just service, but stewardship.

And so, when you return down the same mountain road, and the children wave again — “Hello!” “Bye!” — you feel something different. Not just that you were here. But that you belong.

call of nature at ENTEBBE FOREST LODGE

Ditch the long drives and get straight to the heart of nature at Entebbe Forest Lodge, just 30 minutes away from Entebbe International Airport.

This eight-cabin hideaway offers contemporary comforts with floor-to-ceiling windows and freestanding bathtubs that bring you eye-to-eye with red-tailed monkeys and colourful exotic birds like the African Fish Eagle & Kingfisher.

This charming retreat nestled within a lush forest on a picturesque peninsula in Garuga Bukaya along the shores of Lake Victoria, offers an immersive and tranquil escape just minutes from Kampala City.

Entebbe Forest Lodge is eco-friendly and designed to heighten your senses, allowing you to fully appreciate the breathtaking sights, soothing sounds, and enchanting aromas of nature.

The lodge is thoughtfully crafted to encourage you to explore and embrace the natural world.

The lodge offers a range of amenities, including an outdoor swimming pool, a spa treatment in the woods, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring.

An attempt at harmonising the often opposing requirements of nature conservation and luxury

Activities include guided nature walks, birdwatching, and nearby attractions like experiencing Uganda’s most sought after bird, the shoebill at Mabamba Bay Swamp.

For a more unique adventure, take a 45-minute speedboat to the 100-acre Ngamba Island to meet free- roaming orphaned chimps living their best wild lives after being rescued from the illegal pet and bushmeat trades.

Entebbe Forest Lodge is an attempt at harmonising the often opposing requirements of nature conservation and luxury hospitality characterised by modesty and craftsmanship.

The design has an introverted ‘forest lodge’ with small wooden cabins on stilts, carefully placed within the dense forest to avoid cutting of trees and to afford guests with a real nature experience; and a more extroverted ‘lakeside lodge’ with a main building that is placed at the edge of the forest, overlooking terraces, the swimming pool and open lawns towards a spectacular drop to Lake Victoria.

The cabins are intimate large double or twin rooms. Bedroom, living area and outdoor deck are accommodated within a suspended wooden structure that is clad on the outside

with charred eucalyptus offcuts. Warm and cozy interiors are created by waxed eucalyptus flooring, hand-applied earthpigmented lime plaster and local woven mat ceilings

The bathrooms are located within sculptural stone-clad volumes that intersect the wooden structures at their gable end. Large glazing provides a direct connection to the forest environment. There is family cabin featuring two interconnected cabins sharing a large central deck. Other key building elements are similar to the cabins, including wooden floors, generous steel windows and timber-clad ‘makoko’ roofs. An elegantly curving swimming pool picks up on the language of the outdoor terraces of the main building, carried on by a sweeping path to the lake where a circular sundowner terrace is placed right at the top of a cliff, overlooking natural beaches on either side.

The Lodge is designed, constructed and operated in a way that reduces its negative impact on the sensitive surroundings as much as possible. The designs, materials, ventilation strategy, waste water and electricity were carefully decided in respect to sustainability.

Staying at Entebbe Forest Lodge is truly a life changing experience and not only to the guests as 80% of the lodge’s employees come from the surrounding communities and most ingredients and supplies are locally sourced.

breathtaking views of the rushing Nile. Inside, guests will find king-size four-poster beds draped in mosquito nets, cosy armchairs, and elegant furnishings. The ensuite bathrooms are outfitted with freestanding granite bathtubs, handcrafted washbasins, and showers, blending rustic charm with modern luxury.

The direct consequence of not having roads leading here is the untouched environment with no artificial noises to disturb your stay. Instead, you will listen to the beautiful sounds of the roaring rapids around you.

The lodge’s main dining area is perched above the river and flanked by the Kalagala Falls. Here, guests can enjoy gourmet meals inspired by local and international flavours, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. For adventure enthusiasts, Wildwaters Lodge is perfectly positioned to offer heart-pounding activities. Nearby Jinja is a hub for whitewater river rafting, kayaking, and bungee jumping, while gentler pursuits like horseback riding, fishing, and birdwatching are also available. The area is renowned for its rich biodiversity, boasting over 1,000 bird species, including turacos, eagles, and cuckoos. On the island itself, guests might spot giant otters and

monitor lizards, adding an element of wildlife discovery to their stay.

Those seeking relaxation will find plenty to love at Wildwaters Lodge. The lodge’s natural swimming pool is a tranquil spot to unwind while watching the Nile’s powerful currents rush past.

The riverside spa offers soothing treatments in a serene setting, making it a perfect retreat for couples or honeymooners. The hypnotic sound of the rapids and the symphony of birdcalls create a calming ambiance

that enhances every moment.

Indulge in a host of adventurous activities amid the pristine environment – choose from white-water rafting, and kayaking among others. The star attraction, however, is the natural swimming pool ensconced in pink granite, created over centuries by the gushing river nile.

Spot turacos, cuckoos, hawks, eagles and more. You might also spot giant otters and monitor lizards in the water.

For a property that’s all about relaxing, it must be said that the activities schedule at Lemala Wildwaters is Bear Grylls-level exciting. APOKA LODGE paradise in the wild

The rustic decor provides an authentic atmosphere that matches that of the lodge. Each unit is equipped with international standard amenities.

Set deep in the heart of the Kidepo Valley National Park, Apoka Lodge offers an exclusive and luxurious retreat into the wilderness. Kidepo is Uganda’s most isolated National Park, located in the northern reaches of the country where the light is golden, the wildlife abundant and the skies are enormous.

The lodge features an open-sided main building made of wood, where guests can sink into large, comfortable chairs after a day’s adventure. With just 10 spacious rooms, each with canvas walls, guests can enjoy an authentic safari experience. The rooms boast private outdoor stone bathtubs, perfect for soaking and unwinding. The pool, carved into the rocks, overlooks the savannah, providing a stunning reminder of the wild surroundings.

The architecture of Apoka Lodge is done in a traditional thatched style with, luxury amenities, and classic safari touches. The impressive swimming pool straddles a huge boulder and all of the rooms have large private outdoor tubs. It makes for a dreamy place to cool off and watch wildlife from.

SUSTAINABILITY

The rooms at Apoka Lodge have been built with comfort in mind. Everything is handmade by local craftsmen, everything is large and capacious. 10 expansive rooms with natural canvas walls surround a rocky kopje with endless views across the savannah. With inside sitting rooms and private verandas there are plenty of places to relax, read and sprawl. Big hand-hewn beds with soft duvets are draped with mosquito

nets, hand-woven woolen carpets, extra large plush towels, over-sized dressing gowns…you may be as far away from the city as you’ll ever be, but you won’t miss a thing.

Open year-round, Apoka Safari Lodge welcomes children over the age of five, making it an ideal destination for families seeking a unique and luxurious safari experience.

Daily activities at the lodge include game drives, walking safaris, and visits to local Karamong Villages.

SAFARI EXPERIENCE

Wildlife in Kidepo is abundant. Elephants roam through the camp, lions perch on the nearby boulders as if posing for their close-up, and Africa’s largest herds of buffalo are a part of the landscape.

Lions, leopard, cheetah, elephant, giraffe, zebra (this is Uganda’s only park where giraffe and zebra are found together), hartebeest, waterbuck, bushbuck, warthog…the list is endless. Better still, much of it can be seen from your private veranda or the outdoor bathtub, but the best way to see the wildlife is up close: on foot, or in one of our open-top Landcruisers.

where tradition meets innovation KAYNELA

Rare bird species, horses, camels, and donkeys, agrotourism with traditional games, cultural performances, and educational sessions on organic farming.

Kaynela Farms is a thriving agrotourism destination nestled in the serene landscapes of Bwamulamila village, Kayunga District. This family-owned farm, founded by Sserunjogi Faizo and Peace Kayesu, stands as a testament to how traditional agriculture can be reimagined into a vibrant, multi-dimensional experience rooted in sustainability, education, and cultural celebration.

What began over a decade ago as a humble 20-acre banana plantation has flourished into a dynamic 128-acre agricultural and cultural haven. Initially focused on cultivating

bananas and pineapples, the farm gradually expanded into fish farming, and from there, the vision grew into something far more expansive—a destination where farming, culture, and community converge. The shift to agro-tourism was inspired by a growing curiosity from visitors eager to understand farming beyond the surface.

Kaynela Farms responded by opening its gates and hearts—offering immersive, hands-on learning experiences that continue to shape how people connect with food, animals, and nature.

Today, Kaynela boasts a diverse array of livestock, including rare bird species, horses, camels, donkeys, goats, and indigenous cattle, each adding a unique charm to the farm’s environment.

Complemented by flourishing fruit and vegetable gardens, every element of the farm works in harmony to offer guests a well-rounded agricultural experience. Our approach is deeply rooted in sustainable and organic farming.

We practice crop rotation, companion planting, and soil regeneration techniques to reduce reliance on chemical inputs. Our livestock systems follow a closed-loop model—where animal manure is used to fertilize crops and generate biogas, turning waste into clean energy and enriching the entire farm ecosystem.

Beyond agriculture, Kaynela Farms is a cultural hub. We celebrate Uganda’s rich heritage through traditional games, storytelling, music and dance performances, and culinary explorations that allow guests to savor authentic, farm-to-table meals prepared with fresh, homegrown ingredients.

Greenhouses support year-round production, while our beekeeping and dairy units provide unique learning opportunities in value addition—from honey harvesting to cheese and ghee

making. The farm’s layout and operations are intentionally designed to educate, inspire, and promote the integration of innovation with tradition. Whether it’s a child collecting their first egg, a student learning about organic farming, or a traveler relaxing in our eco-lodges after a camel ride—Kaynela Farms offers an unforgettable experience where every visit supports conservation, learning, and sustainable growth.

These additions have elevated Kaynela Farms into a dynamic ecosystem where interconnected farming systems

work together to create a harmonious and sustainable environment. At the core of our operations is a strong commitment to organic and eco-conscious agriculture. We rely on natural methods, such as crop rotation and companion planting, to enhance soil fertility and reduce dependency on chemical pesticides and fertilizers. Our closedloop livestock system transforms animal waste into nutrient-rich compost for crops and biogas for clean energy, making our operations both efficient and environmentally friendly. This holistic philosophy extends to value addition—with visitors enjoying freshly prepared farm-to-table meals made from our

G & C TOURS LIMITED WILD FRONTIERS

Kampala, Uganda

TOUR OPERATORS - DMC’S, GROUND HANDLERS & SAFARI PROVIDERS

Wild Frontiers’ commitment to Ugandan tourism goes far beyond organising game drives and gorilla tracking. By facilitating park-edge community and conservation programmes through our Responsible Tourism Policy, we also provide guests with insights into the challenges faced by people and animals, while our Future Generations Trust aims to secure a legacy for our children and grandchildren to enjoy.

Rewarding wildlife encounters are, of course, only part of a successful safari; our guests also expect high standards of service and comfort after hours. In this respect, Wild Frontiers gained valuable experience in 1998 when they developed and managed a basic tented camp for the offshore Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. This simple beginning was the first step towards providing luxurious accommodation for our own guests. Today, on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, the awardwinning Buhoma Lodge lies five minutes walk from the gorilla tracking trailhead while a similar interval separates Ishasha Wilderness Camp, in nearby Queen Elizabeth National Park, from the main game tracks and the area’s famous tree climbing lions. In Murchison Falls National Park, 300km north, we have a specialist mobile camp that can be erected on the banks of the mighty River Nile when required.
