CLARISSA M A R Q U E Z Introducing a little bit about myself, I get very excited when I have a new project to work on. Creating a new ambience for people to work, live or simply socialize in provides me with huge motivation to use both my artistic and my technical skills. I value innovative, sustainable and creative solutions, and I like to involve nature and rustic, organic materials in my designs. Nature brings peace and tranquility, and this in turn is conducive to better social interaction, whether it be casual or in a work environment. And like nature, relative simplicity also plays an important role in creating a rustic, relaxed atmosphere. However, nothing can be achieved without passion, without meticulous planning, without strict discipline and without strong technical skills.

design? I am passionate about my designs, but I am also painstaking and punctilious. It is extremely important to me that my designs have complete equilibrium; not only in the artistic and creative sense (colors, textures, materials, use of space) but also in the practical sense. If the designed space is beautiful, but impractical, then I, as a designer, feel I have not completed my task. I push myself to study and learn more every day, learning from my peers, from my professors and from my own studies. I am proficient in REVIT, 3DS MAX, Autocad, Sketchup and other rendering and graphic design tools

CLARISSA M A R Q U E Z I don’t have any preferences according to color. I think that colors are everywhere and you relate to them depending on your emotions, feelings, surroundings and past experiences. For example, when you are eating something, travelling somewhere, colors make you revisit a certain memory or feeling..

Venezuela Better known as the city of goodbyes. I left my country 5 years ago in search for better opportunities. Everytime I introduce myself as a Venezuelan I get all kind of questions including: Is your family ok? How was living there? or comments like: “ Venezuelans are everywhere now”. I look back and I don’t see my country as a “burden” or something to be ashamed of. There is beauty in imperfection. Venezuela is a country with a lot of potential full of positive and hard working people. Caracas, my home city is a valley full of beautiful colors and unique shapes. In a small territory we have beaches and mountains surrounding us, protecting us.

“Viva Venezuela Mi patria querida” -Simon Bolivar We can see Venezuela’s colors everywhere we go. Venezuelan colors are in our land in our people. In every smile in every last goodbye. Venezuela’s typical colors are: yellow, blue and red. We find them and associate them to our landscapes, oceans and skies. We find blue in our seas, red in the suffering of our people and yellow in our landscapes and typical tree, “el araguaney”. We also tend to associate Venezuela’s communism with red, with death and thirst of power.

Venezuelan food

The Venezuelan food is very varied. We have the traditional plate, the traditional breakfast and also a traditional christmas plate. Venezuelan food is full of highly saturated colors. The tables are never ornamented, the color or the aesthetic of the traditional venezuelan get together is on the food. Something interesting that always call my attention is that venezuelan food always can change, it always has add ins that makes the plate even more vibrant and colorful. The colors that are more present in venezuelan food are: green, yellow, red and orange.

“Venezuelan food is something to be proud of” -

Clari

Venezuela’s food is something to be proud of. Why? Because you are lucky enough to have food in your plate. Every 5 minutes someone dies of hunger in venezuela.

Switzerland

Bern was the home country of my grandfather and my mother. Bern is a “small” town located in the country area of Switzerland. Switzerland is known for its beautiful landscapes, gastronomy and neutrality. Switzerland is full of kind but strict people. Swiss people speak more than 5 languages and since little they are told what to study gather the strongest abilities, values of each person and work in function to what the country needs. Swiss people have a strong sense of nationality. Switzerland is full of colors, mostly from the beautiful landscape. Most of the landscape colors are cool tones such as green, blue, white, purple. The strong sense of nationality of swiss people and their need to embellish everything by celebrating its flag and culture creates a notable contrast between the vivid red of their flag and the cool colors of the landscape.

In switzerland they tend to embellish their streets and important symbols with their national color, red.

Swiss food So good that it hurts, like literally. (I’m lactose intolerant). Everyone knows about swiss cheese and chocolate right? but what about the frittatas, strogonoff and strong flavored meats? I grew up eating all these. I truly live for chocolate. I don’t like fondue. I love raclette! Swiss people ornament their tables with the flag everywhere. They are really proud of their nationality. They celebrate their flag every chance they get. The vibrant and deeply saturated red of their flag creates a direct contrast with the organic colors of the food that is on the table. Every kitchen utensil has the flag of it. The red that is on the table creates a sense of respect but also proximity. Color brings them together.

“Red is the color of extremes. It's the color of passionate love, seduction, violence, danger, anger, and adventure”. - COLOR MATTERS https://www.colormatters.com/the-meanings-of-colors/red#:~:text=Red%20is%20the%20color%20of, powerful%20associations%20in%20the%20past.

Venezuelan colors

Red. Symbolizes the courage of venezuelan people during the independence. Red, currently has another meaning for venezuelan people. Red is death, hunger, frustration, thirst of power, corruption. Red is our problem. Red is division. Red is injustice. Red is goodbyes. Red is racism. Red is classism. Red is depression and loneliness. Red is communism.

Yellow. It represents venezuela’s riches in the land: the gold, the natural gas, the corn, minerals, petroleum. It also means hope, perseverance, will to work, service. It also stands by the happy and hard working people.

Yellow

Blue Blue in venezuela is absent. It exist only in our dreams. Blue is meant to represent freedom. Someday Venezuela is going to be blue again.

Red

M2

COLOR+ C u l t u r e Red

The red of of the square of the swiss flag symbolizes the blood of Christ. It represents purity, passion, the power of love.

White

The white cross is a symbol for peace, aid, help, soverany. The white cross means protection, neutralism and unity.

Conclusion. As a conclusion, every single country has its own colors. Colors are in traditions, in knowledge, in culture, food, nature, feeling, history and landscapes. For example, for me Red is all about hate, poverty, division and power. Every single year Switzerland celebrates its nation its culture, and every single year I have to wear red to celebrate half of my blood. I never feel comfortable using red despite of the fact that every single time I wear it is to commemorate my Grandparents and my mom. The colors of an specific culture can make you feel, relate and learn about its roots.

Chapter 2 What is color theory? Color theory is the examination and practice of a bunch of standards used to comprehend the connections among colors. Color Theory has been contemplated for quite a long time, and novel thoughts and practices are constantly being unwound. Understanding the job color plays in craftsmanship, plan, and other associated callings is critical to utilizing shading effectively.

Light + Color Without light, there is no color. Shading changes as light is capable. Light is the embodiment of shading and is energy going through the air at 186,000 miles each second. Light and shading together enlighten a space, manage point of convergence and consideration, and set the state of mind and articulation of the inside. Shading materials and lighting types ought to be chosen all the while to make agreement inside the inside. Whenever chose independently, the outcomes can be dangerous.

M3

Chapter 2

Additive Color There are two fundamental sorts of color blending: with light and color. Added substance tone includes blending light, and subtractive tone includes blending shade. In added substance tone, the essential light tones red, green, and blue are blended. At the point when these three shades of light are blended or "added" together, white light is the outcome, and reasonably, the shortfall of all shaded light is dark.

Subtractive Color Subtractive color applies to paint, colorants, and inks, where blue, red, and yellow are recognized as the essential tones; in printing and photography they are cyan, red, and yellow (CMYK). The letter "K" represents dark.

Chapter 2 color concepts Hue (unadulterated tone) is the property of light by which the shade of an item is delegated red, blue, green, or yellow in reference to the noticeable range. Value alludes to the delicacy or obscurity of a tone. Munsell recognizes esteem on a size of 0 to 10, with unadulterated white at the top for 0, dark in the center for 5, and dark at the base for 10. Worth is communicated in the "trunk" of the tree. Chroma refers to the total absence of any white, grey, or black that will reduce the color's intensity or saturation, two other words that can be used to describe color power.

Paraphrased and Retrieved from http://web.archive.org/web/2020112708 0754/https://bluedivadesigns.wordpress. com/color

Chromatic alludes to all shadings short dark, white, and dark. Achromatic Achromatic refers to the colors black, white, and gray, which are both colorless. Primary tones Red, blue, and yellow are the primary colors.

Secondary hues are violet, green, and orange. They are a mix of two primaries Tertiary hues are red-violet, blue-violet, blue-green, yellow-green, yellow orange, and red-orange, each made by consolidating an optional tone with one of the primaries.

Complementary tones result from two tones inverse each other on the shading wheel: red/green blue/orange, and violet/yellow

A split complementary shading plan is like the correlative plan; nonetheless, it's made out of three tones comprising of one primary tone in addition to the two shades each nearby its supplement—for model, blue, red-orange, and yellow-orange. Triadic color plans are made out of three tones similarly separated along the shading whee. Tetradic colors plans are made out of four tones similarly separated along the color wheel.

COLOR+ D e s i g n e r s MVRDV, They create spaces to live work and play. It is a firm that is constituted by many disciplines: urbanism, installations, architecture, interior design, housing, public, among many others. The create unique and creative spaces full of color and function. They have a vision. They are trying to create the cities of the future. They redefine what we know by mixing typologies and uses.

MVRDV Created The Why factory. They reinvented the concept of collaborative spaces. The reinvented how people are “supposed” to learn and create. The designers used the space to the advantage of the user creating a wide and airy factory that envisions the cities of the future.

MVRDV

M4

COLOR+ D e s i g n e r s They create adventurous and happy places. They design sustainable and intelligent social spaces. This firm is located in Rotterdam, the Netherlands Providing solutions to contemporary architectural and urban issues in all regions of the world. The Why

FACTORY

M4

COLOR+ D e s i g n e r s Theme: Research It explores possibilities of growth. They envision the cities of the future. This space needs to be a source of inspiration and exploration for the people’s use. The workspace sparks creativity and happiness. The designers exalt the heart of the research facility in orange, using contrasting colors such as black and white. The stairs that are in the middle of the space is the main space for social gatherings and collab. The furniture that the designer chose for the overall mood is movable to give the space flexibility. The orange changes its intensity at night and during the day as a main consequence of the skylights and the use of colored artificial light fixtures.. Even Though there are only two colors in the space. The skylight changes the perception of color making the space look dynamic instead of monotonous. When the designer mixes up this color with light it creates dynamism and contrast in the space. With black and orange he manages to create a unique and complex.

C o l o r + Design

The designer also achieves to create a dynamic and contrasting space by dividing the office in areas according to color and functionality.

The stairs also function as a tool to “bird eye” the urbanism models and the overall process of the cities of the future.

The Why

FACTORY

M4

COLOR+ D e s i g n e r s The why factory is different from any other space in the University because is meant fo urbanism students. The are able to work on top of their professors and allows them to explore models of different cities in an aerial view. The color orange exalts and divides the why factory from the rest of the university. Why orange? Other than being located in Netherlands the orange symbolizes creativity. The orange also exalts the division and independence of the why factory from the university. This factory is surrounded with very rough and rustic materials such as metal, concrete, brick, wood and glass. The nearly polish orange with its distinguished black and blue furniture differentiates from the rest of the building.

The first floor is meant for lectures, exploration and social gathering. The top floors of the pyramid- like stair are additional conference rooms and common rooms. For each top floor there is a balcony that creates common spaces to take a break from the craziness of due dates and classes. The space is meant to be flexible since it was design for several uses: events, social gatherings, studying, working, modeling, etc. The doors are bigger than common doors for ventilation purposes.

C o l o r + Design

M4

COLOR+ D e s i g n e r s

C o l o r + interiors

The Designer plays with the space in a very strategic way. The “pyramid” is the central focus of attention. The Designers clearly separates the Why factory from the rest of the space by tracing a clear division between the vibrant orange against the rough and textured concrete. The rough materials exalts the polished and unique orange. The contrast created through the orange and use of materials exalts the double height area making the space look a lot bigger and airy. The lecture rooms are located inside the pyramid. They are plainly white exalted with clean and linear led lights. White helps you concentrate and rest the eye from the vibrant orange. The lecture rooms are located on each floor and its followed by a common space area in the entrance of each lecture room. The ceiling, floor and walls are white, but also the furniture. Color is included or added in each space though the entourage and personal process of the users.

The use of white and black adds contrast and complexity. But also creates a clear division between private and public spaces. The black is used for collaborative areas while the white for more private areas such as conference and lecture rooms.

M4

COLOR+ D e s i g n e r s The work of the why factory has been exhibited in various locations. They are meant to be interactive and full life. They are always vivid in color and in shape. Color is used in this interactive/ urban installation to divide spaces. It is beautiful how the natural light creates several colors shades in each space division. The way light affect color gives the space more complexity and depth. The designers add texture by placing different objects of the same color in the divisions adding more visual complexity.

The Why

FACTORY

M4

COLOR+ D e s i g n e r s

Conclusion. The orange stairs bring happiness and a creative spark to the space. The orange is used to exalt the most important and interesting factor of the space program: collaboration and teamwork. During the day the shades of orange are brighter and lighter while during the night it the orange appears and a reddish orange changing completely the overall mood of the space. The use of contrast and color to denominate the functionality and program of the space. The stairs are placed strategically in the space, making it the focal point of the design. The high contrast between the vibrant orange ane the existing materiality adds vitality and endurance to the design. Every single color has a reason of being there. The Designer creates spaces and hierarchy through color creating linear compositions interrupted by flexible and movable furniture.

Color and Space Dim tones ingest light and for the most part cause spaces to seem more modest. Light tones mirror light and for the most part cause spaces to seem bigger. Warm colors advance toward the watcher and accordingly tend to make spaces appear to be more modest, though cool tones subside outwardly and consequently extend and cause spaces to appear to be bigger.

What Dreams

May come

In a tragedy, Chris Nielsen dies and reaches Heaven. Yet he embarks on an afterlife journey to reunite with her after he learns that his beloved wife Annie has killed herself out of grief at the loss. Instead of going to Heaven, Chris decides to spend eternity in Hell with Annie. His comments parallel what he'd said to her when he left her in an institution after the deaths of the twins, when he declares to Annie his intent to stay, and she restores her memory as Chris makes her nightmare his. Annie, who just needs to rescue Chris, ascends to Heaven and takes Chris with her. Chris suggests reincarnation as a means for him and Annie to relive their lives together. In a scenario that resembles their first encounter, the film concludes with Chris and Annie meeting again as young kids.

M6

COLOR+ e n v i r o n m e n t

Everything that has to do with Annie in terms of scenery and costume design is red. They are soulmates. Their LOVE goes beyond words it goes beyond words and desires. From the first time Chris ( the main character) lays eyes on her, she is full of vibrant and stravagant red. Red is meant to symbolize passion, love, joy and drama. Most of the scenes that have this similar color palette is presented by contrasting it with cool colors such as green and blue. This movie made me believe again in soulmates. The creators create contrast between the different saturation of greens and blues against the vibrant and vivid red of annie’s clothes.

Scene a nalysis RED

M6

COLOR+ e n v i r o n m e n t

Purple is meant to represent melancholy and sorrow. Purple is for goodbyes. Purple is the color of fantasy and magic. The purple tree is a fantasy shared and created by two soulmates. They create this fantasy inspired by the last time they saw their children before her death. Purple also can represent death and mourning. Everytime this color appears it has to do with Annie’s mourning because she always remembers her husband near the purple tree, saying the final goodbye to their kids.

Scene a nalysis PURPLE

M6

COLOR+ e n v i r o n m e n t

Scene a nalysis GREEN In this case green represents RENEWAL. The scenes that are presented to the right of the page are moments of self realization and hope. Annie after loosing her kids she tries to commit suicide (for the first time) , these pictures present the moment when Chris has a deep and supportive talk with her wife. He lets her know that she is not alone and that she can get through this together. Green is for hope, for positive energies and compassion. Green is also predominant in the first encounter with his daughter in heaven. In this case green represents youth, harmony and growth.

M6

COLOR+ e n v i r o n m e n t

Scene a nalysis Y E L L O W+Heaven

And of course this is Heaven. The beautiful thing about this movie is that everyone has its own perception of heaven. Chris’s heaven is a game board owned by his daughter. This heaven is full of yellow, orange, light brown, white. Just by seeing the images you already feel peaceful and actually inside the movie. In these scenes, yellow is the predominant color. The yellow represents enlightenment, optimism and clarity. After all is heaven.

M6

COLOR+ e n v i r o n m e n t

As I told you before. They are soulmates. He went through hell for her. To rescue his Annie. The pictures to the right are scenes from the entrance of Hell. As you can see the predominant colors are black, orange and browns. It is basically a warm color palette, of course to represent Hell. Other than the disturbing images the color palette creates a contrast open to drama and mystery. Darker colors like brown are often associated with negative feelings. The orange represents warmth and encouragement. You gotta have courage to go to hell.

Scene a nalysis HELL+COLOR

M6

COLOR+ e n v i r o n m e n t

Scene a nalysis BLACK

The greys, blacks and whites presented in this movies are shown to present contrast. The black shows the unknown. The sorrow. Desperation. These contrasts are shown when the main character is having doubts about the path he wants to follow. The high contrast between light and shadows are presented in scenes that are open to interpretation, rationalization and emotional connection between the spectator and the movie plot. They play with black to present rebellion, mystery and death.

M6

COLOR+ e n v i r o n m e n t

Conclusion. As a conclusion this truly was my favorite assignment. Colors can truly set the whole environment and transport you to an specific mood, emotion, feeling, scene or moment. This assignment made me believe in true love, the love that goes beyond heaven or hell. Colors are that, color are emotions and moments. Now everytime I see this purple tree my mind travels to this scene of the movie. As a conclusion if you’ve never watched this movie, please do. What dreams may come makes you rethink your life and actions.

Hue Balance (Complements) Illusion of Vertical and Horizontal Space

Corresponding tones are those shadings that when put close to each other heighten the other tint, making each to seem more brilliant. These tones are straightforwardly inverse each other on a shading wheel.

Size of Color Area (Large/Small) The bigger the measure of shading utilized, the lighter it shows up; the more modest the measure of shading utilized, the more obscure it shows up. This impact is heightened in colors that are set against an optional shade of inverse gentility or haziness.

COLOR + E M P H A S I S Tory Burch is an american lifestyle company that matches the personality, sensibility and story of the designer. Tory Brush has around 188 stores In the United states. It has stores all over the world. Asia, Europe, Latin America and more. This Tory Burch Store is located in Miami Design District. This Miami area is well known for its emblematic store design and beautiful installations. This specific Store is about 2.000 Square Feet and is constituted by two stories.

History . The Main Clientele taking into consideration its location and overall mood and feel are wealthy users between 25 and 50 years old. As any other Tory Burch store the main products are: hand bags, clothes, shoes and scarfs.

M8

COLOR + E M P H A S I S Contrast of values is created to show or emphasize the difference between two or more objects. A fine example of contrast of hue are the fitting rooms of the Tory Burch store. Contrast of hue is more obvious when using colors that are opposing in the color wheel, in this case the reddish curtains that frame the entrance of the fitting room creates a fine contrast of hues when comparing this hue to the green and blue that ornament the inside of the fitting room. Contrast of hue it is also created by the relationship between the products that are displayed and the overall oranish feeling of the store.

Contrast o f hue.

M8

COLOR + E M P H A S I S Using different textures along the store allows the client to experience different moments throughout the store. Changing textures adds complexity to the space and exalt different design features in the interior. Playing with textures makes the spaces seem defined and hierarchy. By adding textures you are also including a wide range of shades as a direct consequence of light and how the material reacts to the illumination. For example, in this store texture is added to exalt seating areas, displays and products. Texture also invites you in, the entrance is full of contrasting materials that call your attention and triggers curiosity. The designer creates small moments in the space. Exalting design features by contrasting textures within the store’s color palette.

Contrast o f texture. The image to the left is a perfect example of the successful use of the contrast of textures. We can see the contrast of the rough beige marble-like stone and the clean and smooth edges of the gold metal that surrounds the entrance of the Tory Burch Store. The reflective property of the polished mirror like material also add a sense of complexity and depth to the monumental entrance.

M8

COLOR + E M P H A S I S Contrast of hues is created by the relationship between light and dark colors. Contrast of hues can also be created by the use of different tones around the space. The different tones obtained throughout the space are a direct result of the behaviour of the reflective and smooth materials to light. The dark material used for the bottom and top of the display furniture creates an undeniable contract of value. What does the contrast of value do for the overall mood/experience within this part of the space? The space feels warm, clean and luxurious. The use of darker values in contrast with the lighter values created as a direct result of the material’s reflectivity adds a sense of complexity and depth that creates an undeniable attention to the displayed objects and products.

focal P o i n t. The focal point of the store is the main display furniture piece that is in the middle of the space. The contrasting effect between the orange toned wood and the green carpet creates an undeniable focal point. The contrasting values and the lighting effects draws you into the space and sparks curiosity. By locating it in the middle and giving it a sense of hierarchy it invites you to explore the rest of the store. Wonder through the secondary displays and fitting rooms.

COLOR + E M P H A S I S

Design F e a t u r e. The designer exalts sitting areas, display furniture and ornamental furniture through color and size. The designer adds a new color to the store’s color palette and uses it to emphasize the functional spaces such as sitting areas. Another curious fact about the material and color choices would be that this types of sitting arrangements and details only happens on the second floor. The second floor is less striking than the first floor. The designer accomplishes this feeling through desaturated reds and browns. The designer creates a sense of hierarchy between the fist and the second floor by adding to color palette of the overall design. The color is pink, a new color only seen in the first floor through the products displayed. The second floor is less striking because it has less contrast of hues and textures.

Conclusion. As a conclusion, I think that this assignment was very interesting and useful. By analysing the way other designers have achieved functional and enriching spaces through color and texture contrast it makes me understand the importance of the use of color in interior design. I see these contrast as tools that can improve the level of complexity and hierarchy of future projects.

COLOR + V A R I E T Y

General Info W Miami is located in the heart of Downtown miami. It is not only a hotel but also a residential building. What makes this building special is that it is true to its roots and site. As you an see in the picture to the right the lobby of this amazing hotel is supported by totem like columns. This has a reason. The building is located near the miami circle national historic landmark were you can find a prehistoric structure created by native Americans.

The building creates a direct contrast between the organic and rough textures of its surroundings with the architecture. The totem columns are a modern approach of the building site and history. The building design and location attracts a younger generation (between 25 and 38 years old)

The Spa is design in a a very strategic and engaging way. The Designer explores color, texture, patterns and the use of lines to create “moments” full of color in the space. The contrast between the use of color and the overall clean and white feel of the space is obvious. The space makes you feel fancy and elegant. The overall design of the space is inspired by a modern take of the victorian style.

The wet deck is all what you want when you are staying at the heart of brickell. It has an amazing view of the bay and the overall city. The Wet deck is organized in a very strategical and organized way. The pool is arranged in a very complex and engaging way by playing with color, lines, textures and patterns.

C o l o r + Line Line is everywhere. Lines create a sense of clarity in the space. The horizontal and vertical lines create a sense of repetition and continuity throughout the space. The lines create the opportunity of a clear continuous grid inspired by the shape and partner of the building. Vertical lines are also presented in built in furniture and standing wall partitions. The linear and horizontal features of the components of the space creates a visual connection between the Wet Deck and the building’s view.

C o l o r + Shape There is always shape and forms when we talk about design. Shape is everywhere. There are repetitive shapes throughout the space all of them being rectangular and rectilinear. Shape in this case adds complexity to the space. Shape is presented in the sun lounge furniture, the planters and the “fireplace”. Organic shapes such as the trees and the planters creates a huge contrast against the linear and clean shapes presented in the space.

“The shapes of the design can transport you home”

C o l o r + pattern

The colors patterns vary throughout the space. Although we can see a direct relationship between color and pattern in the rug like pattern floor tile near the pool’s fireplace. The colors and the shapes of the fireplace makes you transport to home. The designer creates contrast with the cool colors of the city integrating warm colors with the wood like standing panel and the “vintage” rug mosaic.

C o l o r + texture Texture is seen everywhere. They create contrast and focal points playing with values and surfaces. Texture is prominent in the shade-like wall partitions, the fireplace and floor. The wood-like partition and the rough texture of the fireplace transports you to a sunset in the beach. Its makes you feel “cozy” and at home. By including design elements rich in texture and strategically placed in the space can make the concept speak for itself. The concept is “home”. The designer also applies the concept by adding warm colors into the overall color palette.

C o l o r + Line

Line creates a sense of contrast and continuity throughout the space. Lines function as a clear division between different design features such as the mirror, the built in “library”, the books, fireplace, sitting area and pool boundary. Horizontal and vertical lines are also included in the the benches and wall application. Line creates a sense of hierarchy and order throughout the space

C o l o r + Shape Shape is introduced with color into the space to create contrast. Mostly curvilinear and vibrant colors are incorporated into the space to create a living room feel. Shape is also introduced with a set of contrast and textures to create memorable moment in the space. The shapes are mostly full of color to create contrast against a “blank” canvas (floor and walls).

M9

C o l o r + Pattern

Pattern in shown in a subtle manner. Pattern is created through lines and textures. The Spa presents different patterns to add more complexity to the space.Pattern is achieve through the repetition of shapes and lines throughout the space. For example, as we can see in the area rug and also in the pool stools. Patterns in this space is also an opportunity to add different shapes and colors into the space that transports you to the “homey” concept of the whole project.

C o l o r + texture Texture transport you to the overall feeling and mood of the space. As we can see in the image to the right texture also creates contrast between the rough surface of the marble and the smooth and dark texture of the wood. Contrast of texture is also shown and demonstrated when comparing the overall values of the materials and the vibrant color of the chandelier. Texture also adds a sense of hierarchy to the space it guides your gaze by giving you a direct division of shapes and forms.

M9

COLOR + V A R I E T Y

Conclusion. Overall, this assignment makes you dig deeper into the design. What was the designer thinking about when putting these elements together? What makes the space complete and complex? How does texture, line, form and pattern adds to the overall mood and concept? By comparing and analyzing every single element of the space it made me realize that texture, pattern, line and shape despite sounding so basic and simple are the key element for creating a complex and engaging interior design space. You learn about your mistakes by relearning your basics.

C o l o r + texture.

Using different textures along the workspace allows the user to experience different moments throughout the office. The designer use textures to add complexity to the space. The different materials and solid surfaces divide and create new spaces. They create visual interest and contrast between the specific textures and the bright colors. For this project the designers gives a rest and adds interest to the eye by adding textures. A clear example of how the color adds complexity to the space is between the different textures and materials of the office. The blue pattern created with different shades of blue against the rough wood texture of the back wall creates a clear focal point constituted by color, pattern and texture. The clear contrast between the different textures and the vibrant blue gives guides the user through the space, it gives it hierarchy. The overlapping of different surfaces and transparencies adds depth to the interior space.

COLOR + W O R K S P A C E

Color + pattern. This is a clear example of how the patterns play with colors. In this workspace pattern is shown in different areas mostly on room dividers such as glass walls and feature walls. The blue that is shown in the picture provided to the right of the page creates a clear hue contrast between the different shades of blue and the bright yellow. The pattern shown in the glass also gives visibility and serves as a guide (barrier) to identificate the clear glass. The simplicity and transparent properties of the blue pattern ties back this space to the company’s color palette and overall mood. The pattern is a simplification of digital musical patterns.

Color + line.

Line plays an important role in this workspace. Line creates iconic feature walls by playing with the strokes of the vertical lines. The linear pattern create the shape of famous musicians throughout the space when looked in different perspectives . The lines are placed over a white background that creates a huge contrast by playing with negative space to create visible shapes. The contract between the value of the lines against the white wall creates depth. They create different shapes depending on the perspective. When you look at the feature wall really close you can’t get the whole image, it looks like a pattern instead of a shape. The lines are organized in a strategic rhythm adding dynamism and movement to the space

M10

Color + shape.

Pandora Media is the perfect example of shape in relation to color. The space is divided by octagonal shapes of different colors that gives the workspace a sense of purpose regarding to the program. The proximity between shapes and colors gives the interior a sense of complexity and hierarchy. The octagonal shapes creates division and adds interest to the ongoing functions of the workspace. The shapes creates hierarchy and separation between the open and linear organized space and the communal/private spaces of the office.

Conclusion. As a conclusion the Pandora Media Project plays with the color and its relation to texture, patterns, shapes and lines. The designers plays with these tools to achieve a space rich on hierarchy, program and purpose. The way the designer displays and arranges the different elements throughout the space giving them purpose and functionality is successful. The use of different lines stroke to create complex shapes, the space division through shapes and forms, the contrasting textures with colors and patterns gives the space its own mood and feel. Lines, colors, textures and patterns are the basic tools to create enriching and unique spaces.
