COACH WHITE

RUSSELL WHITE | MEN’S HEAD BASKETBALL COACH

After graduating from Cal Lutheran in 1994, where he was on the basketball and golf teams, Russell White coached at Chaminade High School from 1994-1999, then was the head coach at Calabasas High School from 1999-2006. In 2006, he accepted the head coaching job at Crespi Carmelite High School in Encino, where he is the winningest coach in school history. He was named California State Coach of the Year in 2015 for Division 4 and then for the entire state in 2016.

During his tenure at Crespi, the Celts went to the playoffs 12 times, including seven CIF semi-final appearances and seven state championship appearances, winning two CIF Southern Section titles and two state titles. The Celts accumulated more than 22 wins per year.

White was named the head coach in July 2019. Cal Lutheran had a 4-21 record during his first year as coach but went 17-8 in his third year. In year four, the Kingsmen qualified for the NCAA tournament for the first time in 22 years. In White’s fifth season, Cal Lutheran won 19 straight games, the SCIAC league title and the team’s second straight NCAA Tournament berth.

COACH WHITE’S PLAYERS WHO PLAYED PROFESSIONALLY:

Drew Housman | Calabasas > Harvard > Israel

Jerramy King | Crespi > Long Beach > Philippines

London Perrantes | Crespi > Virginia > Cleveland Cavaliers > Greece

DJ Ursery | Crespi > Pacific > Chile

Max Heidegger | Crespi > UCSB > Germany

Brandon Williams | Crespi > Arizona > Dallas Mavericks

Patrick Renane | Cal Lutheran > Denmark

De’Anthony Melton | Crespi > USC > Golden State Warriors

“It’s never the wrong time to do the right thing.”

FORMER PLAYERS SAY

BRANDON WILLIAMS | DALLAS MAVERICKS

“Coach White has been and is a great coach, everybody knows that. But it was him teaching me how to be a man, which is an equal talent that he has and has nothing to do with basketball.”

LONDON PERRANTES | CLEVELAND CAVALIERS / GREECE

“Coach White is a coach who knows his Xs and Os but more importantly, he knows how to get the most out of his players. Will push you to become a better player every single day and you will look back and thank him for it later on in life. He definitely played a huge role in my basketball career.”

DE’ANTHONY MELTON | GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

“Coach White pushed me to be better every time I stepped on the court. Being coached and being pushed is undervalued. Coach White helped me establish my foundation to lead me down the right path to be successful.”

LOGAN MCCULLOUGH | CAL LUTHERAN

“Coach White taught me not only how to be the best version of myself on the basketball court, but the best version of a man I could be off the court. He gives his players the tools to strive on and off the court and it’s his best quality”

RUSSELL STONG | UCLA

“Coach White taught me the life lessons of discipline and perseverance to focus on the little things, earn my goals, and develop meaningful relationships along the way.”
