WHO YOU BACK MATTERS MORE THAN EVER. Here’s the thing. This isn’t about having a bet. It’s bigger than that. This is about Australian jobs. Hundreds of thousands of them across the country. The stablehand. The apprentice. The farriers and breeders. The familiar face that works the bar at your local track. These are the everyday Aussies, that revenue from TAB goes to support and employ. In fact, TAB contributes four times more dollars to the sport you love than any of our competitors.* And we wouldn’t have it any other way. Because we’re in love with racing, in love with the characters, the horses, the dogs; the smell of it. In love with bringing you the
stuff that matters from hundreds of tracks nationwide. In times like these, where you choose to spend matters, be it your takeaway coffee, with your mate who owns the corner store or who you have a punt with. And will matter for the months ahead. Right now, we need to stick together like never before to support our fellow Aussies through incredibly difficult times. To ensure we keep the gates crashing back. To keep the horses running in both directions depending on where you hail from. We said at the top this wasn’t about having a bet. It’s bigger than that.

From the President As we come to terms with the inability to move into Stage 3 ease of restrictions, we have to accept the impact on our business that is due to the behaviour of a few who unfortunately influence our decision makers. While it is difficult, it helps to look at the bigger picture, if only to give us perspective as we all struggle to understand our “new normal”. Key messages from the Grattan Institute -June 2020

ARISTOCRAT ASSIST WITH COVID RECOVERY While there is a veritable treasure trove of literary pieces on surviving tough times and adversary, there is no manual that addresses an entire industry closing nationally with 3 days’ notice and then surviving and planning for a reopening date that is fluid based on national and international events…. but here we are. As a company with many stakeholders, our Customers are vitally important to us, not least because of our long association in the ACT and broader Australian market. We decided in the days after closing that these long associations were vitally important, and as a result the company decided to make some immediate decisions to help venues financially in this dire period.
This included the following;
> Service fees halted during the COVID period with one-
month free service for all pre-existing service contracts once venues could re-open
> System support fees ceased during this period even
though support was still available, and the Systems team continued to do system upgrades
> Fees on Access were stopped for the period and would not commence until after markets were reopened.
As a result of working with venues during this period, we believe venues will come out of this by refining their focus and embracing effective cost reductions that effects profitability. As a result, this initiative will continue as part of our broader offering to venues to form a true partnership with venues. In the ACT we are constructing some region-specific insights and data that we will be looking to tabling with venues soon for feedback on how we can leverage our capabilities to assist you in the future. In the meantime, our business continues to bring in talent that we believe will benefit Aristocrat and ACT customers

Three things today that could change your tomorrow
Sponsored Content

The way you invest in super today will really make a difference to how much you will have for tomorrow. We care about your financial wellbeing, so we’re asking you to take a moment to review three things that could help you bridge the gap that COVID-19 may have left in your investments, insurance and superannuation. 1. Choose the investment option that’s right for you 2. Review your insurance cover to protect your future 3. Boost your savings for retirement
1. Choose the investment option that’s right for you Super is a long-term investment, so you need to consider the investment option that’s right for your situation. We recommend you take some time to consider which investment option is best for you. It could close the gap created by any recent COVID-19 related losses. To help you consider your investment options, we’ve created three profiles that match how long you have to invest and your risk tolerance with appropriate investment options.
Starting out - You’ve recently started your working life. On your way - You’ve been on your super journey for a while now. Almost there - Retirement is less than five years away. If you would like to read more about these investment options, visit clubplussuper.com.au/threethings.
2. Review your insurance cover to protect your future Life’s not predictable, so you may wish to protect yourself and your ability to earn an income against possible sickness or injury. You could do this through insurance cover, such as income protection, death and total and permanent disability (TPD). In the past, you may have received these insurances automatically when you joined Club Plus Super. However, recent changes by the government to protect members’ accounts from being eroded by fees means you may have to opt-in to maintain your insurance cover, therefore, now may be a good time to review your existing insurance. To help you understand your insurance arrangements, visit clubplussuper.com.au/threethings.

3. Boost your savings for retirement There are lots of ways you can boost your super. Here’s some tips on what you can do now to take advantage of the super tax breaks. What you can do before 30 June 2020
Check the contributions cap: Start by checking the pre-tax contribution caps for this financial year to see how much you could save in tax if you contribute to your super by 30 June. Concessional (or pre-tax) contributions are generally only taxed at 15% up to a cap. If you haven’t used all your super caps over recent years, you might be able to carry them forward to make a bigger contribution and save more tax. For more information about concessional contributions, visit clubplussuper.com.au/threethings.
Claim a tax deduction for personal contributions: You may be eligible to claim a tax deduction for personal contributions. If you wish to claim a tax deduction, you must complete a Notice of intent to claim or vary a deduction for personal super contributions form, available at clubplussuper.com.au/pds, and send it to us before the earlier of you lodging your income tax return for the year in which the contributions were made; and the end of the financial year the year after you make the contribution.
Contribute anytime Other ways you can top up your super:
Salary sacrifice (before tax) – Speak to your employer about whether you can have some of your pre-tax pay invested into your super so you’ll pay less tax on your income.
Low-income super tax offset – If you earn income up to $37,000, you may receive a refund of contributions tax paid on your super contributions up to $500. You don’t need to do anything except ensure we have your Tax File Number and lodge your tax return, the ATO will generally make the payment into your super account.
Transition to retirement (TTR) pension – If you’ve reached your preservation age but are still working, you can access part of your super through a TTR pension. A TTR may help you take advantage of tax breaks and allow you to contribute more to your super account whilst receiving the same net income.
Seek advice if unsure While your super is designed to become one of your biggest assets by the time you retire, it’s important to consider your entire financial situation, too. A financial adviser can assess your individual needs, existing investments, commitments and goals to tailor a holistic financial plan. Should you need financial advice, we can refer you to Club Plus Financial Planning to help you with your financial decisions or visit clubplussuper.com.au/fp.

A message from the Gambling and Racing Commission Chair
A
s part of measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, the Australian Government announced the closure of a wide range of businesses, including all clubs and gambling venues, effective from 23 March 2020. As the ACT’s gambling regulator, the Commission recognises the substantial and ongoing impact this has for venues and their staff. To assist with offsetting these impacts, the Chief Minister has announced a range of measures aimed at providing financial support for clubs and the casino. The Commission and our team at Access Canberra are committed to streamlining the implementation of these initiatives and working with venues and staff as restrictions and regulation evolves.
The Commission also recognises that the closure of clubs has diverse and far reaching impacts for patrons and families.
The ACT Government support specifically for Clubs includes:
A waiver/refund of gaming machine tax liabilities for clubs for March 2020 gaming activity (for clubs that pay tax monthly) or gaming activity in the first quarter of 2020 (for clubs that pay tax quarterly). Mandatory payments to the Industry Diversification Fund will be frozen for twelve months from 23 March 2020. A total of $3.3m is available in the Diversification and Sustainability Fund for distribution to clubs – to keep staff employed. Access to a payment of $15,000 per authorisation if licensees voluntarily surrender gaming machine authorisations. Providing clubs with a rebate on fixed water and sewerage charges on their Icon Water bills for the next two quarters.
As plans and preparations are made for venues to re-open, it is a good time for harm prevention and reduction processes to be reviewed, to ensure you are meeting your duty of care. It’s important to make sure patrons are aware of the support that is available so they can seek help if they feel they need to. The Commission looks forward to working with clubs as restrictions ease, to facilitate a vibrant club culture that is founded on care for the community and the patrons of our community clubs.

Don’t switch machines off – iSolate them
IGT’s Systems customers to get an intelligent solution for social distancing of gaming machines IGT has responded to the multiple challenges potentially facing clubs and pubs in NSW with an intelligent alternative to switching off every other machine in a gaming room. Although the social distancing requirements for gaming are currently unknown, many in the industry are assuming they will have to switch off every other gaming machine or make significant moves of machines – and potentially purchasing new bases. However, IGT’s ADVANTAGE CLUB customers will soon benefit from a new solution, IGT iSolate, which intelligently disables machines either side of a gaming machine as soon as a player starts a gaming session on one machine. Once the player finishes their playing session, the machines either side are auto-activated and an urgent page is sent to a nearby gaming attendant to sanitise the machine before the next player arrives. For many gaming managers, they will no longer have to guess which machines to switch off in order to generate the best return in a limited gaming environment. Plus, they won’t have to spend on re-modelling and moving their gaming floor layout to meet potential new restrictions. IGT ADVANTAGE CLUB is a gaming management solution that enables venues of all sizes to better manage their business, attract more patrons and deliver innovative solutions that increase customer loyalty – giving them significant competitive advantage. In line with World Health Guidelines, early identification/screening and social distancing/isolation of at-risk persons are key factors in reducing the spread of the virus and protecting staff and customers to unnecessary potential exposure. All businesses including construction sites are at risk of being closed following confirmed onsite exposure. Taking proactive steps to mitigate the risk is necessary and considered good risk management.
How accurate is thermal screening? Thermal Imaging is one of the most accurate forms of non-contact screening for Elevated Body Temperature (EBT), when performed correctly. Following on from SARS-CoV and MERS-CoV International Standards (ISO/TR 13154:2017) were introduced with respect to the deployment, implementation and operational guidelines for identifying febrile humans using thermal technology. Leader Security are one of the few organisations delivering thermal screening services in strict accordance with the guidelines set out within the International Standards (ISO/TR 13154:2017). Our Thermal Imaging Cameras meet the International Standard IEC 80601-2-59:2017 relating to the basic safety and performance of thermal screening equipment for human febrile temperature screening.

KENO IS BACK FOR MORE ‘KRAKEN’ GOOD TIMES Now that Keno is available in ACT clubs again, it’s time to let your customers know their favourite game is back – and it’s safe and easy to play. Government restrictions in the easing phases of lockdown impose challenges across many facets of club operations, but Keno is a breeze to operate and sell. From 19 June, ACT club customers are permitted to easily and safely purchase Keno from all locations where terminals are accessible within a club without restriction, once Keno has been reactivated by the venue. To assist your club share important messages with customers about the safety of playing Keno and how Keno is available to them during the COVID-19 re-opening period, Keno has developed a suite of digital artwork featuring our favourite Kraken, Ken. Download any or all of the below artwork through the Toolkit section of Keno Connect. Digital assets are sized for: •
Venue nightlife and advertising screens – Landscape and portrait
•
Social media tiles – Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
•
A4 posters – which can be printed and displayed in venue
If your club needs other digital sizes or formats, please email kenocommunications.com.au and the team can resize to suit your requirements. For venues that have not yet reactivated Keno, it’s as simple as following the re-opening instructions and completing the Keno Re-opening Checklist, after which Keno terminals will be activated within one business day. However, there are some guidelines and safety practices clubs need to follow to ensure compliance with the latest government advice. Most notably, to comply with current health restrictions, Keno caddies and stationery should not be displayed in any front of house areas until further notice to avoid the spread of COVID-19. Instead, it is recommended venues provide customers with their own Keno stationery from stock held in a back of house area. But this safety precaution won’t hinder customers from accessing Keno or your staff from offering it. “There are four easy ways your club can offer Keno to your customers and be fully compliant with government guidelines and keep customers safe,” explains Keno General Manager Terry Fowler. “The easiest is for customers to simply use your Keno Self Service Terminal or an operator terminal, where they can either use a Keno game card to place their bet or give their bet verbally to the operator. “Your staff is also permitted to offer and provide your customers with Keno game cards, and staff can even take the card up to the operator terminal to purchase the ticket on behalf of the customer as part of their table service.” Fowler also notes that it’s an ideal time for clubs to explore using Keno’s free Bistro Kit wallets, which include all the things customers need to fill out a game card – and make it easy for staff to offer Keno via table service. “Keno has always been a game that customers love to play while waiting for a meal to come out or as part of the fun of dining out with family or friends. “With caddies not able to be placed on tables, it’s a great opportunity for your staff to introduce customers to the game by providing them with Bistro Kits after they’ve been seated.” Visit Keno Connect at www.kenoconnect.com.au to learn more about how your venue can safely offer Keno to your customers.

4 WAYS TO OFFER KENO There are four key convenient ways in which venues can offer Keno to their customers and remain compliant with current restrictions.
1. Using Keno Game Cards Venue staff are allowed to offer and provide customers with a Keno Game card for them to select their chosen game and numbers. Keno Bistro Kit wallets are an ideal way to supply your customers with all they need to fill out a Keno Game Card. Bistro Kits are available free of charge from Keno Connect.
2. Via Keno Terminals Keno can be safely purchased by customers in your venue from all locations where terminals are accessible without restriction. This includes both the Keno Self Service Terminal or operator terminal/s. All Keno terminals should be cleaned regularly and preferably after each user on the Self-Service Terminal. Read through our cleaning guidelines available on Keno Connect to learn more.
3. Taking verbal bets Customers are free to place a Keno bet verbally by attending a Keno operator terminal in an unrestricted area of the venue. Then, while maintaining social distancing measures, can announce their bet to the Keno operator to process on the terminal. Verbal bets are easy to process. There are guides for each bet type in the Toolkit’s “Re-opening Keno” section of Keno Connect.
4. Offering Keno table service Your venue can take an order from a customer to purchase a Keno ticket. The role of the Keno 'Runner' is to provide Keno service while the customer remains at the table. For more details, refer to our venue guide on using a Keno Runner available on Keno Connect.
