HELLO EVERYONE! “It’s been a fantastic month for our Kicks project. Since the last Kicks Fanzine, so much has happened, and you can read all about it in this month’s edition. I’m extremely proud of our Kicks team for their incredible effort during a very busy period. Their hard work and dedication have helped us deliver some amazing sessions across our local communities. A special shoutout to coaches Sam and Jamie, who seem to brave the rain at almost every session! I hope everyone enjoys this month’s fanzine. Hope you have all had a wonderful Christmas and New Year!” Thank you for your continued support,

Coops Sports Development Officer Club Doncaster Foundation

MATCHDAY EXPERIENCE

The Rovers game v Peterborough United saw us offer 20 participants from Scawthorpe Kicks a matchday experience at the Eco-Power. Upon arrival, the group had an hour in the Sports College common room where they played pool, table tennis and darts...and had lunch before heading pitchside. Unbeknown to them, we had organised for them to provide the guard of honour on the pitch as the players entered the field.

LIMBS! »

BOING!!! At half-time, our group each got to take a penalty on the hallowed turf. To cap off a great day (in spite of the not so great weather), Rovers took all three points, Jordan Gibson grabbing both goals in a 2-1 win.

2025: WHAT A YEAR!

What a year to be a part of Doncaster Kicks! As well as delivering your weekly football fix, we have had a busy year providing opportunities to travel to play in tournaments, the chance to play on the pitch at the Eco-Power, player visits to sessions by the likes of Damola Ajayi and Connor O’Riordan and the chance to design kits to be worn by participants.

SHIRT DESIGNS COME TO LIFE! There were matchday experiences offered, with tickets to Rovers games, including penalties at half-time, stadium tours and guard of honour participation. Kicks attendees also had the chance to be a ballboy at England v Japan and we had our first football residential - 3 days at a state of the art training facility in Norwich with professional training and matches against local grassroots teams. Your fantastic attendance and attitude means we’ll be providing much more going forwards. Stick with us in 2026 for more of the same and lots more besides!

WHAT IT IS

Premier League Kicks uses the power of football and sport to inspire young people to reach their potential. The programme creates opportunities for young people who are at risk of anti-social behaviour, youth violence and/or from high need areas to regularly engage in football, sport, mentoring and personal development opportunities. Launched in 2006 as a collaboration between the Premier League and the Metropolitan Police to create safer and more inclusive communities, Premier League Kicks has had a significant impact on people and places for 20 years.

POLICE VISIT

Scawthorpe

SAFE HANDS!

Before Christmas, we had a visit to Scawthorpe Kicks from the brilliant Phil and Julie, who are PCSOs (Police Community Support Officers). Before the football we spoke about the concerns and worries young people face in communities and how the visibility and presence of PCSOs in the area is a welcome and reassuring thing.

We also discussed how vital sessions like Kicks are for engaging young people, giving them a safe welcoming space to spend their evenings. Phil and Julie made a fantastic impression on our participants and joined in for a kickabout. Thanks both, and shoutout Phil, prime Pickford!
