 Confidence means you believe in yourself.

It means you stand tall when you try.

It means you are proud to be you.

Everyone has

Champions of Confidence Simone Biles: Simone is a gymnast from Texas. She

works hard every day. She has won many gold medals. She also takes care of her mind.

Simone shows that being you is the bravest thing.

Misty Copeland: Misty grew

up with very little. She started

ballet at thirteen. That is older

than most. But she did not give up. She became a top ballet

dancer. Misty shows that you can dream big.

Bethany Hamilton: Bethany loved to surf in Hawaii. At

thirteen, she lost her arm.

People said she could not surf.

But just one month later, she

was back on her board. Today she is a champion surfer.

Horses are big and strong. They run with their heads held high. They are brave and kind.

A horse stands tall. A horse walks proud. Horses show us how to be brave.

Manuela's Journey

It is okay to feel scared.

Just take one brave step.

A Big Worry Manuela loved to sing.

She sang in the bath. She sang in the car.

She sang to her dog.

But Manuela had a big worry.

Next week was the school talent show. Manuela had to sing on the big stage.

"What if I forget the words?" she said.

Her tummy felt funny inside.

"I cannot do this," she whispered.

A Trip to the Farm On Saturday, Manuela went to grandma's farm.

There were big red barns. There were green fields.

And there were horses!

Manuela walked up to the fence.

One horse stood very tall. He was big and brown.

His name was Harry.

Harry held his head up high. He was not scared. He was strong and calm.

Manuela held her breath.

"He is so brave," she thought.

Believe in you, and you can do hard things.

My I Can Notebook That night, Manuela thought about Harry.

Harry stood tall. Harry was not scared.

"Maybe I can be brave too," she said.

Manuela found a small notebook. She wrote on the front:

"Things I Can Do." Then she wrote three things: 1. I can sing.

2. I can read.

3. I can ride a bike.

"I will write more every day," she said.

Helping a Friend On Monday, Manuela saw Mia at school.

Mia looked sad.

"What is wrong?" Manuela asked.

"I have to read to the class," said Mia. "I am scared."

Manuela thought of Harry. She thought of how he stood tall.

"You can do it," Manuela said. "Stand tall.

Take a big breath."

Mia smiled.

Then she stood tall. She read in a clear voice.

Manuela clapped the loudest.

Trying My Best After school, Manuela went home.

She sang in front of the mirror.

She sang to her dog.

Sometimes she made mistakes.

But she did not stop.

"I do not have to be perfect," she thought. "I just have to try."

Her mom heard her singing.

"You sound great, Manuela," she said.

Manuela picked up her notebook.

She wrote one more thing:

I can keep trying.

The Big Day The day of the talent show came.

Manuela stood by the stage. Her hands felt cold.

Her heart was fast.

But she thought of Harry.

She stood tall. She took a big breath. She walked on stage.

Manuela sang her song. Her voice was clear.

The words came out just right.

When she was done, everyone clapped.

Her mom and grandma cheered the loudest.

A Stronger Manuela That weekend, Manuela ran to grandma's farm.

She held her notebook tight.

"Grandma! I did it! I sang for everyone!"

Her grandma hugged her tight. "I knew you could, my love."

Manuela held up her notebook. "My list has ten things now!"

"I want to make it one hundred!"

By the fence, Harry stood tall and still.

Manuela smiled. She felt tall and brave too.
