Dear Friends,

A crisis has a way of sharpening our focus, forcing us to take stock of what matters the most. For me, that means the people who make up the Partnership’s wonderful community across the United States and Ireland.

Like every corner of the world, the island of Ireland has been deeply impacted by COVID-19. As we all continue to grapple with the health and economic crises wrought by the pandemic, thanks to you, the Partnership has redoubled our efforts to empower Irish schools and communities. Crises also underscore the need for connection. In our socially distanced world, we are finding new ways to connect to the people and places we hold dear. The Partnership has always served as our bridge back to Ireland: messages from teachers and students we support at home serve as poignant reminders that though we may be miles away or an ocean apart, we are always close to the heart.

While this year has been devastating in many ways, a sense of solidarity still prevails, illuminating the resilience that lies at the heart of the Irish spirit. Now more than ever it is clear that there is no strength without togetherness - ní neart go cur le chéile. I am heartened that the things the world will need most as we emerge from these crises—inspired young people and stronger communities—are exactly what the Partnership strives to deliver.

It is my sincere hope that we can continue to work together, honoring our Irish heritage while investing in Ireland’s future.

Míle buíochas, a thousand thanks,

Mary Sugrue CEO, Irish American Partnership
