BAC TAKE THE SPOILS IN BATTLE OF FILTON DERBY threat. A tackle beyond the horizontal saw BAC go a man down to the bin, but still manage to grab a score, which for many began to look, as though the game was out of sight.

Hosts Bristol Aeroplane Company held out to beat the Misfits 43-31 in what was a hugely entertaining game at the BAWA Ground.

Clifton, forced to make last minute changes to their pack in the face of late call-ups and withdrawals, started tentatively and two early BAC tries from an impressive driving maul set the visitors back 12-0 in the opening 10mins.

Clifton however, responded well to the opening salvo with a rapid-fire brace from fly-half Will Lang who capitalised on back-to-back BAC errors on their try line to dot down two wellpoached scores.

As much as Clifton grew into the game BAC’s pack dominated the second quarter rewarding them with 3 converted tries before the break leaving the score to 33-10 and the visitors with a huge task.

Clifton, keen to improve their historic poor third quarter record, reignited the game with a quick set of scores. First debutant Charlie Collar, filling in at flanker, crossed over, after some deft footwork by debut centre Freddie Earnshaw. Clifton then pressed the accelerator again to claim the try bonus point, with No.8 Lucas Spindler adding to his seasons tally going in and leaving Lang to convert the extras.

With the gap narrowed to 9 points BAC were again forced to call on the experience of the forwards to bail them out of trouble and after sustained pressure on the Misfits line BAC extended the lead to 38-24.

Clifton though, growing in confidence maintained the charge, piecing some excellent three-quarter play together and taking full control of the final minutes of the game, snatching another try back through Earnshaw himself to bring the deficit to 12 points.

Final score 43-31

A gritty and resilient performance by the Misfits, whose makeshift pack really did acquit themselves well under immense pressure. Makeshift flanker/hooker Leon Kloz took the M-O-M award for his gutsy display at the breakdown and in attack.

‘It was a solid game from the team all round and our distribution was good. Our main weakness was against their driving maul which we need to correct in the future, ultimately too many missed tackles and offsides, but a promising performance from a team that simply need a bit more chemistry’ - Leon Kloz M-O-M. A well-deserved rest week greets the Misfits, before they host Cotham Park at Station Road on the 14th October.
