Our Story

We created It Helps To Play ® with one guiding belief: play isn’t a distraction from learning. Instead, it’s the pathway to growth. Because milestones are better when they are celebrated with imagination. Questions are better when they lead to stories. Childhood is better when curiosity has room to stretch its legs and run wild. When our twins’ teeth started to wiggle, the moment felt bigger than a dollar under a pillow. It felt like a rite of passage. One that deserved more than a hurried swap in the middle of the night. With our backgrounds in design and marketing along with a shared belief in the magic of storytelling, we set out to create a better way to mark this milestone. That’s how The Tooth Brigade® was born.

We reimagined the traditional Tooth Fairy by creating plushies that are full of personality, charm, and a very practical mouth - big enough to hold a tooth, a note, or a treat. We wrote and illustrated books to bring our characters to life and to answer all the burning questions kids ask about losing teeth- including whether the Tooth Fairy ever forgets to visit. And a tooth tracker helps everyone keep count of lost teeth. We started our journey of making special moments with The Tooth Brigade. It is just the first step to something bigger. Because at It Helps To Play, we are always looking for ways to slow down, spark connection, and let imagination lead the way. And we’re just getting started.

Why a Tooth Pillow?

Losing a tooth is a special moment. A tooth pillow makes it more fun! Kids LOVE putting their lost tooth into the plushie’s mouth! And there’s plenty of room to hold the Tooth Fairy’s surprise.

Can’t find a tooth? Swallowed it? Guess what that happens a lot! Each plushie comes with a SUBSTI-TOOTH that counts as a real tooth!
