Add Chefs to Shortage Occupation List, Sector Leaders Urge
Hospitality trade bodies have repeated calls for the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) to add chefs to the shortage occupation list (SoL) to make it easier for businesses to recruit from abroad, meaning that if accepted, chefs who are coming from overseas, will be given dispensations within the immigration rules including lower salary thresholds and reduced visa application fees. Currently, if an occupation is on the Shortage Occupation List employers do not
have to meet the full salary threshold that other jobs on the Skilled Worker visa must meet. UKHospitality said there is currently a 10% shortage of head chefs and up to 21% for production chefs and highlighted that the sector had chef shortages ranging from 10% for head chefs, up to 21% for production chefs.
