Fire requires only 16 percent oxygen, however, in the atmosphere we live in, it has 21 percent. Hence, if we could prevent or control the supply of oxygen, we would easily stop the fire. And Blanketing or Smothering is the process to do so.
For this reason, we cover the fire with a layer that prevents or obstructs the supply of oxygen. And thus, the fire goes off. Usually, fire extinguishers do the blanketing but, some cases may also require a fire blanket.

Starvation

Starvation is the last but effective option. This option is always considered last as it does not extinguish the fire directly. Instead, it limits the spread of the fire. And thus over time, the fire goes off or turns weak enough to put off using Cooling or Blanketing.
