APPLICATION PROCESS AND COURSE OFFER The application process Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar has a mixed Sixth Form and we accept a maximum of 200 students in Year 12. Once you have applied to Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar Sixth Form via UCAS Progress, we do our best to make sure that you choose the course that is right for you. You will:
Have a personal consultation with a senior member of staff Attend an Induction Programme Have the opportunity to talk to students and staff about your preferred options or simply contact the school to arrange a tour
Course offer We recommend that students study 3 or 4 A Level subjects and an EPQ as part of the Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar Extended Curriculum. Details of the course content can be found online.

Entry into Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar Sixth Form You will need at least seven subjects at Grade A* - B at GCSE; including English and Maths.

POSITIONS OF RESPONSIBILITY The Sixth Form Student Leadership Team The Sixth Form Leadership Team is a group of democratically elected leaders who help to organise Sixth Form events, develop the community and act as a mouthpiece for the Sixth Form and the school at large. They also communicate any issues, ideas or views to Mrs Robinson, the Headteacher and Mr Sénéchal, the Assistant Headteacher in charge of Key Stage 5. Students are elected in Year 12 and take up their positions in Year 13. The expectation is that all students will contribute to the school community. New Year 12 students can apply for the position of ‘Senior Prefect’. Assisting younger students, engaging in voluntary work and running clubs and societies are all activities that are important in Years 12 and 13. Remember that your personal development will also be greatly enhanced by the cultivation of interests beyond the academic. There are a number of positions of responsibility in the Sixth Form which include:

SPECIALISED CAREERS ADVICE Planning for your Future The Careers Department has held the prestigious Investors in Careers quality award for many years. Led by a full time, highly experienced careers professional, a comprehensive programme of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) is provided to all students throughout their time at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar Sixth Form and beyond. TOP FLIGHT PROGRAMME Top Flight Top Flight is our very successful specialist support programme for students who wish to apply for highly competitive courses including Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Dentistry and Law and highly competitive universities including Oxford and Cambridge. We provide:

CLUBS AND SOCIETIES Clubs and societies flourish at Simon Langton Girls’ Grammar. The Orchard project, now in its third year, has received significant funding from the Royal Society and has completed highly praised research into biodiversity. The majority of our societies are student led, attracting leading specialists in their field. Biosciences for example have welcomed experts ranging from pharmaceutical to neurosurgery. The following clubs and societies (although by no means an exhaustive list) represent the breadth of opportunities available within and beyond the curriculum.

ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES
Our Enrichment Programme provides our students with the opportunity to: Choose from a wide variety of courses from which to construct their own bespoke programme Organise their own work experience or volunteering as part of a personal Enrichment option Take the initiative and undertake activities which are of direct value to them and their future
Outcomes Our Enrichment programme ensures that our students can: Secure a recognised qualification in anything from First Aid to an Arts Award Work with a variety of outside agencies, such as Canterbury City Council or Age UK Support the wider community on projects such as the Westgate Parks Physic Garden Project
Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award All Year 12 students have the opportunity to travel to Plas Y Brenin, in Wales, for a practice expedition, completing their D of E Gold Award the following summer. Upon completion, students attend a presentation held at a Royal Palace to receive their Award from Prince Phillip or Prince Andrew.
Trips There are a number of trips that are offered to all Year 12 students, to destinations including Turkey, Italy and Amsterdam alongside those trips that are offered by individual departments.
