Welcome Our state of the art facilities, designed by the world famous Foster and Partners and Architects Co-Partnership, have helped to set new standards for our 21st century learning environment. This brochure provides an insight into our campus and our Post-16 Centre. The Academy is an exciting place to learn and work and we take seriously the fact that having the right choices and opportunities during your time with us really does make the difference in your career or further study route in the future. To this end we strive to ensure that everyone in the Academy community is able to take advantage of the best available facilities and opportunities during their time with us. We aim to help you develop your skills even further whether it be your intention to go on to university, undertake further training or employment. Alec Reed Academy lies at the heart of the community, we are proud of what we have to offer and invite you to find out more.

We aim to offer students a true partnership with staff, parents, industry and the community in helping you to achieve your highest standards in a technology rich environment. The Academy Facilities

Alec Reed Academy boasts some of the most outstanding facilities of any school in the country including: • Four court Sports Hall • Gymnasium • Climbing wall • Fitness Suite • Professional Dance Studio • Professional Theatre • Professional Recording Studio • Drama Studio • Digital Media Suites • Professional Art Studios • Industry standard Design & Technology workshops

As well as these and other many specialist facilities which are used by the whole Academy community, Post-16 students enjoy the additional use of the Post-16 Learning Resources Centre which offers the most modern equipment and support for your learning. The Post-16 Common Room and Academy Restaurant provide the perfect venue to meet, relax and talk with friends. Refreshments and light snacks are available from the Academy Restaurant during the day in addition to the excellent lunchtime menus created by the Academy’s own Executive Chef.

Many of our students choose to stay at Alec Reed Academy for their Post-16 studies, whilst a considerable number join us from other schools and from overseas to take advantage of the courses, high standards of teaching and the excellent facilities the Academy has to offer.

As senior students at the Academy a business-like ethos and dress code underpins the work of everyone in recognition that Post-16 is different and, as ambassadors for the Academy, your status is appropriately recognized. Courses We are committed to providing a wide range of courses at different levels to suit the needs of our Post-16 students. Tailoring personal learning pathways is the key to our course programmes so that a variety of combinations can be taken, some as one year or others as two year programmes of study. Indeed some of the courses we run are not offered by other local schools or colleges and we are proud that our independent status enables us to offer several courses which only the most prestigious schools in the country are able

to run. We also regularly consult our Post16 students on the courses they would like us to run, after all, it’s your future and we’re here to help make it a success. Our separate Post-16 Prospectus outlines the specific courses on offer each year with their entry requirements and we invite you to ring or visit us to experience things ﬁrst hand at a taster day.

Supporting your progress Staff and students in the Academy’s Post-16 Centre are friendly and helpful. Although you are encouraged to become more independent your progress will be carefully monitored, and specialist support is always on offer. An active Student Council, Common Room Committee and Senior Student Leadership Programme plans events throughout the year and Post-16 students are encouraged to use their skills and interests to take a full part in the life of the Academy.
