A SIXTH FORM AT HARRIS ACADEMY WIMBLEDON

HAWI6

WELCOME

HAWI6,

as we are called for short, is an ambitious and exciting sixth form.

Our teachers are experts in their subjects and passionate about equipping students with the combination of academic qualifications and wider skills and experience they need for success in their next steps.

Our sixth formers learn in a brand new, state-of-the-art building with modern facilities and resources. They are enthusiastic learners and our teachers know how to support them to achieve their best grades. But for us, great academic results must go hand-in-hand with a fun and stimulating enrichment programme; our calendar is teeming with performances, sport fixtures, speaker sessions, trips, clubs and societies.

‘Making a difference’ is a concept we live and breathe. Many of our students volunteer in the wider community, contributing their skills to benefit society.

All are role models to children lower down the school and there are opportunities each term for sixth formers to take on positions of responsibility and develop their leadership skills.

Although our sixth form is still new, we are part of a thriving and hugely successful network of sixth forms at the Harris Federation where students obtain places at elite ‘Russell Group’ universities at more than twice the national rate. We work closely with the other sixth forms within this network which gives our students access to well-established careers guidance and university application programmes. In addition, our sixth formers also benefit from our partnership with the nearby King’s College School in Wimbledon which is centred around an exciting joint schedule of academic talks and careers advice sessions.

Our sixth form is set up and run to be ambitious for our students; if you share our drive, then this is the place for you to be.

STEM FACULTY

Our STEM Faculty comprises biology, chemistry, computer science, design and technology, economics, mathematics, physics and psychology.

Our outstanding teachers are drawn from a full range of specialisms and have in-depth knowledge of their subjects enabling them to provide the greatest level of challenge and support to our students.

During their studies at HAWI6, as well as developing their knowledge in their chosen subjects, students will gain invaluable transferable skills, such as critical thinking and problem-solving, which can be applied to a wide range of university courses and professions.

There are exciting opportunities for our STEM students to deepen their knowledge outside the classroom, including trips to CERN in Switzerland, visits to leading medical schools and key scientific institutions including the Royal Society of Chemistry, the National Physical Laboratory and the Royal Society of Biology. These excursions provide opportunities for students to engage with real-life applications of the concepts they are investigating and showcase a wide range of fulfilling careers to aspire to.

Reflecting a full breadth of studies on human society, nature and culture, our Humanities Faculty comprises English literature, politics, classics, geography, history, sociology and religious studies.

We make the most of our academy’s location and have excellent links with the Royal Geographical Society, the Historical Association, King’s College School, the British Library and our local Russell Group universities.
