A HARRIS SIXTH FORM FOR LONDON Welcome to Harris Clapham Sixth Form!

It is an enormous privilege to introduce the sixth form to you.

We are a beacon of excellence in Lambeth and exemplify what a well-rounded sixth form education should be like.

Our academy is brand new and benefits from being a state-of-the-art building. It has been especially designed to deliver a sixth form education, including an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics-related subjects.

We have high specification science laboratories, computing suites and art facilities, for example. In short, our teachers have access to the resources that they need to teach their subjects to the highest level. Our teachers are subject experts – they have a deep knowledge that enables them to support and challenge their students to achieve their personal best.

The academy offers a Level 3 curriculum package.

This focuses on A level and vocational courses, the full details of which are on our website. Students also benefit from a first-class enrichment and personal social/health curriculum. We particularly focus on developing students’ leadership skills, including in their local community.

It is important to us that students leave us with a deep sense of achievement – ready to excel in the further challenges of life that lie ahead of them. In summary, they continue on their journey to ‘be the best’.

OUR VISION AND VALUES The vision for Harris Clapham Sixth Form is simple: be the best.

This includes to be the best place to learn and also the best place for teachers to work.

We have three values for our students (and indeed our staff):

COURAGE so that our students will: 1. be the best version of themselves that they can be 2. champion inclusion and make the world a better place 3. persevere and successfully meet the challenges of sixth form studies.

CONFIDENCE so that our students will: 1. believe in themselves and what they can achieve 2. use their range of talents to the full 3. help shape their community and be role models for modern Britain.

COMMITMENT so that our students will: 1. ‘walk the talk’ and have the discipline to make things happen 2. work hard and take actions to achieve their full potential 3. think and act positively for others and not just themselves.

Our values are known as the 3 Cs and are embodied in everything that our staff and students do.

OUR COHORT OF STUDENTS Students joining us in September 2022 will be our second group of students.

Students will have strong role models and support from our current Year 12s who will have moved into Year 13.

Together with Year 13, new students will ‘set the tone’, helping us to establish the academy as the very best. Students will benefit from an excellent transition programme, including individualised course discussions and support for their future plans form the word go.

We have the very best teachers who are experts in their fields. Our teachers are able to share their knowledge and skills with our students so that they are motivated and able to go on to secure the highest grades across all their subjects.

By the time our students leave at the end of Year 13, they are ready to make their own mark on the world. They are fully supported and ready to go on to the best universities and/or apprenticeships and/or establish themselves in the world of work.

A WELL-ROUNDED EDUCATION We want all our students to enjoy their education and to achieve their true potential.

Every subject we offer is taught to an exceptional standard.

Our A levels include the full range of ‘facilitating’ subjects that are the most valued by the best universities. Our state-of-the-art facilities enable every subject to be taught above and beyond the exam board specification. We offer separate sciences, mathematics and technological subjects.

Other subjects include Government and Politics, Sociology, Drama, Art, music and Computing.

Our carefully chosen vocational courses enable students to study the equivalent of one, two or three A levels. These courses fully integrate the world of work into their delivery. Our resources include media, computing and art suites. Students use the latest technologies that are used in industry during their studies.

WORKING WITH THE HARRIS FEDERATION We work in partnership with the Harris Federation sixth forms and Harris Westminster Sixth Form to make sure students are able to interact with the best universities and employers.

The Harris Federation has a reputation for quality, securing the highest outcomes and strongest destinations for their sixth form students. Harris Clapham Sixth Form benefits from and adds to the Harris ‘offer’. We are an active partner in the Federation, ensuring we work together to give our students the very best.

We provide students with meaningful opportunities and access to facilities, contacts, experiences and advice that are not found anywhere else.

ENRICHMENT OPPORTUNITIES Our students are constantly encouraged to learn new skills and to enjoy new challenges that go well beyond their subject curricula.

Students choose a ‘cultural perspective’ course each term that they will participate in. This enables them to complement their studies by learning ‘something different’ that they can explore and in which they can immerse themselves.

Our students are also be able to participate in a range of sports and wider enrichment activities to complement their studies.

This includes representing the sixth form in sporting competitions between other sixth forms, including other Harris academies.

Various guest speakers, lectures, visits and work experiences also enhance students’ curriculum learning and personal development.

APPLYING FOR A PLACE Our list of courses on offer and our entry requirements are published on our website. Students can use this information to help decide if they would like to apply to the sixth form.

PART OF THE SUCCESSFUL HARRIS FEDERATION The Harris Federation is a not-for-profit charity with nearly 50 academies in London and Essex. The founder and Chairman of the Harris Federation is Lord Harris of Peckham. His vision of delivering happy and successful education is brought to life by an excellent team of teachers and leaders.

The Federation regularly tops academic studies and national league tables measuring progress and performance. Almost all Harris secondary academies are judged ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted.

We are immensely proud of the role that our alumni are now beginning to play in the world and of what we believe our current generation of pupils will go on to achieve.

In addition to running schools, the Harris Federation provides high quality training and professional development for teachers throughout this part of England.
