Welcome I am incredibly proud to lead a highly ambitious school with passionate and skilled staff, working tirelessly to provide life-changing opportunities for the students in our communities. At Cumberland Community School (CCS), we have created a culture of high expectation and ambition among our students, which matches any school in the country. We aim high at CCS, and all of our students are expected to work hard. The world does not stand still, and we are relentless in our pursuit of excellence; we first and foremost believe that our students are determined, ambitious learners. We support our students every step of the way, to ensure they receive an outstanding education in a friendly caring environment, which treats students as individuals.

Our School Values In partnership with families, we nurture, support and challenge our students so they are ready to grasp the opportunities of the twenty-first century. We achieve this through our aims:
Determined to improve the life chances of every one of our students. Determination is also an essential quality for our students if they are to achieve their potential.
Ambitious for our students and their future. We encourage all our students to be ambitious for themselves and for their community.
Learners for life and not just for school. We are a learning community in which all students and staff have the right to flourish.

Why choose CCS? Choosing a secondary school for your child is one of the most important decisions you will make regarding their future. At CCS, we have an unshakable belief in the power of hard work and ambition to make dreams come true. In the years to come, students will leave CCS to become doctors, lawyers, CEOs, engineers, scientists, writers, working at top levels in some of the best professions.
“ This school has changed so much recently. There is now an expectation for us to succeed.” Year 10 student
Scholarship programme Our scholarship programme has seen over twenty five students win an all-expenses-paid scholarship to top independent fee-paying schools, including Prince William and Prince Harry’s old school, Eton College.
“ Being on the scholarship programme has literally changed my life. I am now studying medicine at Oxford after going to Eton.”
In just its third year, we have developed partnerships with leading independent schools, including King’s College, Wimbledon; University College, Hampstead; Mount Kelly, Devon; Kingland, Bath; and Francis Holland School, as well as other high performing independent schools.

Exceptional teachers Our commitment to high-quality teaching means our teachers deliver outstanding lessons every day. They respond to enquiries regarding a child’s progress and development and provide regular feedback. Staff share a common purpose with families and the community to improve the life chances of our young people. CCS provides a world class education where we prioritise the outcomes for every child.

Life beyond the classroom We believe that learning and enrichment do not stop when students leave the classroom. Students are encouraged to join a range of clubs, activities, trips and mentoring sessions to develop their interests and talents and prepare them for life after CCS. We build confidence, shape success and nurture talent. Every child deserves to be recognised and this is how we show that we care.

Teaching, learning and curriculum Our purposeful, varied curriculum doesn’t just convey knowledge but invites questions, engages inquisitive minds and develops a thirst for learning and knowledge.

It is tailored to help young people develop the social, technical and educational skills to future proof them in a rapidly changing job market. Lessons aim to build and develop a wide range of skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking, literacy and numeracy.
“ There is a real feeling at the school that they are preparing us for life.” Year 9 student
Nurturing learning environment Students have space and opportunity to develop as individuals within a warm, welcoming learning environment that celebrates ambition and high aspiration. They learn best when they feel happy, safe and supported. We believe that the right atmosphere helps students thrive and gives them the best opportunity to fulfil their potential.
“ The teachers in this school are dedicated to helping students, both with their classwork and with everyday life.” Year 10 student

Pastoral care and wellbeing The core purpose of pastoral care and wellbeing at CCS is to create an inclusive community of learners who are kind, tolerant, respectful and aim for excellence in all that they do. Student wellbeing and pastoral care remain at the heart of all we do. We believe that happy students are successful students. Students learn in a stimulating environment where they feel safe and supported. Behaviour in our school is outstanding.

Staff are approachable and supportive of students. There is a strong rapport between staff and students and a sense of mutual respect and empathy that comes from working together in a kind and caring environment.
Our students We are proud of our students. They are articulate, confident and grateful members of the school and the local community.
They have a deep love of learning gained from a wide range of academic, social, sporting and cultural opportunities. We want our students to achieve the highest educational outcomes and break the glass ceiling, which is a priority. All our students aspire to enrol in our scholarship programme, inspired by former students who have already achieved scholarships to top feepaying schools. Our polite, hardworking students are responsible, respectful and active citizens who are able to play their part in school life. They demonstrate an attitude of gratitude by greeting staff and visitors to the school.
