Peter Middlehurst

Office Manager and Senior Parliamentary Researcher

Peter started at Winstanley College in 2012 after attending St John Fisher Catholic High School in Wigan.

He said “I chose Winstanley College after being encouraged to by teachers at John Fisher. I knew that I wanted to be the first person in my family to go to university and was assured that Winstanley would help me achieve this.”

After roles at the Labour Party’s Head Office and the Industry and Parliament Trust, Peter now works in the Houses of Parliament as Office Manager and Senior Parliamentary Researcher to Nick Brown MP, Chair of the Finance Committee and Member of Parliament for Newcastle East.

Sophie Myers

Sustainability Engineer

Sophie, a former Standish High School student who took part in the Colleges Engineering Education Scheme with Sellafield Ltd, designing an underground nuclear waste transport system.

After Winstanley, Sophie took a year out to complete a ten-month engineering placement at the National Composites Centre in Bristol. She then travelled South East Asia before achieving a first-class honours degree in Engineering Design at the University of Bristol. Sophie is now working as a Sustainability Engineer, who specialises in developing electric vans, buses and cars.

“Solving sustainability is never easy, but I feel I am contributing to a better world with every decision.”
