Kier is the UK’s leading highways service provider, with more than 90 years’ experience delivering a wide range of road, bridge, and tunnel projects all over the country. The operations team required a safe and secure space to store all the authorised and approved pesticides that are used on the local authority network.

Upon visiting our website and reviewing our extensive portfolio of successful chemstore projects, they were confident in our ability to supply a modified shipping container that would meet their specific requirements while adhering to COSHH regulations. Our expert modifications team embarked on transforming a new 20ft shipping container to suit Kier’s needs. The cargo doors were relocated to the centre of one of the long sides, creating an access point that spanned the length of the container. The original doors were replaced with an infill panel.

Cleveland Containers captured our attention when we were initially searching for suppliers as the website is fantastic with plenty of example images. The interaction and communication with Eddie Rees (Conversions Manager) was pivotal - the first impressions from a telephone conversation were engaging and productive, with the options available to our requirements explained clearly. The customer service has been incredible, from the first enquiry about a quotation, all the way through the process, right up to the delivery. Overall, a hassle-free, stress-free experience.

To ensure compliance with regulations and safety standards, a bunded floor was created within the container. This involved installing a sheet metal tray and raised grated flooring across the entire base, with a drain valve positioned underneath the short side. Two louvre vents were added at opposite ends of the unit to enhance airflow, providing proper ventilation inside the container.

To optimise the storage space, racking was fitted along three walls, offering ample shelving for the organisation and safekeeping of pesticides. Additionally, lighting and electrics were installed internally, and an external isolator was placed next to the cargo doors.

The modified unit now serves as an easily accessible working area for Kier, providing ample space for the secure storage of chemicals. It meets all necessary regulations, ensuring a compliant and efficient storage solution for Kier’s pesticide inventory.

Situated in the picturesque coastal town of Seaburn, just a stone’s throw away from Sunderland City Centre, STACK Seaburn is an integral part of a regeneration project aimed at bringing new businesses and employment opportunities to the area. Despite facing delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the dedicated team worked tirelessly to meet deadlines, and on September 4th, 2020, STACK Seaburn officially opened, welcoming more than 700,000 visitors in its first year.

STACK Seaburn was expertly designed by Dunwoodie Architects and is composed of 70 new and used 40ft high cube shipping containers. The units were modified to feature doors, windows, and serving hatches, and prepped for interior fixtures to be installed. Each container was carefully painted and sealed before being delivered to the site, ensuring a seamless transition for businesses setting up shop at STACK Seaburn.

Continuing to work with Cleveland Containers was an easy decision, it allowed us to pick up where we left off at STACK Newcastle, and take all of the lessons learnt from our first shipping container development to make improvements for the Seaburn scheme. Cleveland Containers understood and embraced what we were looking to achieve and because we had worked together previously it meant the process of ordering, modification and delivery was seamless.

There are several bars and street food vendors on site serving a variety of options including tacos, burgers, pizzas, and fish and chips as well as Indian and Greek food. The venue features a large open space in the centre that contains plenty of seating for food, drink, and live music to be enjoyed by visitors. Not only this, STACK Seaburn is also home to a barber shop and beauty salon, demonstrating how versatile and convenient the venue is for small businesses.

We were proud to collaborate with Artez Interiors on a remarkable office space project in Manchester, which involved the supply of 42 modified 20ft shipping containers.

Artez Interiors, a reputable building developer primarily operating in Northwest England, secured the opportunity in 2022 to construct the innovative and distinct ‘Cube Space’ project situated at Old Granada Studios in Manchester. Recognising our expertise in container modifications, they approached us to assist in bringing their vision to life.

The building itself showcases a striking steel frame structure, complemented by the elevated placement of 42 20ft high cube shipping containers. To achieve the desired aesthetic and functionality, our team undertook several modifications. The cargo doors and end panels of each container were removed, and all visible parts of the containers were painted jet black (Ral 9005). In addition, numerous side panels were removed, allowing for the creation of a diverse range of office spaces within the development. These spaces consist of 22 single units, each spanning 130 square feet, four double units covering 260 square feet, and four triple units offering 390 square feet of space.

We were looking forward to making a start on such a prestigious project but having limited knowledge on recycled shipping containers we needed an experienced team around us to deliver it. Having met with local container suppliers, we eventually engaged Cleveland and found Eddie, James, and the team to be not only extremely knowledgeable in terms of their buildability and sustainability ideas and suggestions, but as a company, commercially competitive.

This exciting collaboration brought together the expertise of Cleveland Containers in container modifications and the passion of Middlesbrough Football Club in providing an enjoyable pre-match experience for their loyal fans.

Designed with two tiers, the base of the fan zone features a 40ft high cube container with two roller shutter windows that act as a serving area.

A secure staircase was installed at the side of the unit leading up to a platform surrounded by railings and glass panelling to keep everybody safe. The elevated space enables supporters to enjoy the sights and sounds of the matchday buzz from a prime vantage point.

This platform area also features a 10ft high cube unit, which was cut down from a 20ft high cube container, that fans can enter through glazed French doors.

The Fan Zone created for Middlesbrough Football Club is a fantastic addition to the grounds and generates plenty of revenue for the club on match days. This container conversion is easily replicable and can be recreated for many industries, such as events, sports, retail, and hospitality. The modifications team love working on these projects and even enjoy making use of them after completion!

External personnel doors were added to the rear of the 40ft container for access for staff members to enter and exit. A partition wall was even added to create a separate, well ventilated, cellar space for the storage of additional drinks.

Sponsored by the renowned brand Heineken, the fan zone opens its doors well in advance of the matches to create an immersive experience for supporters. There is plenty of seating in front of the bar area where fans can unwind and immerse themselves in a relaxed atmosphere.

Live music performances further enhance the vibrant ambiance, adding an extra layer of excitement and entertainment to the fan zone.

The collaboration between Cleveland Containers and Middlesbrough Football Club was embraced with enthusiasm and dedication, resulting in a fan zone that seamlessly blends functionality, aesthetics, and the spirit of football.
