In the Studio Art program, you study a variety of artistic techniques and creative processes to develop your unique voice and vision. You’ll explore different media and approaches to enhance personal expression, refine aesthetic sensibilities and visually communicate compelling themes and ideas.

CSU offers a diverse range of courses in Studio Art including:
▶ Drawing: multiple mediums and styles in our spacious drawing studio overlooking Lake Erie
▶ Painting: formal and technical instruction in observational and personal expressive styles of painting in our large, bright and open painting studios
▶ Sculpture: facilities for traditional and digital sculpture in a wide variety of media, including wood, clay, metal, plaster and bronze, among others
▶ Photography: a fully outfitted digital lab with large format printing, lighting studio, black and white darkroom and dedicated critique space
▶ Printmaking: large open studio for etching, aquatint, linocut and lithography
▶ Watercolor
▶ Special topics: rotating courses such as conceptual art, video art, expanded drawing and commercial photography, as well as thematic courses taught by expert faculty
▶ Museology courses with enriching field trips and professional guest speakers from the Cleveland arts community on exhibitions, collections and museum education
Professional training can lead to careers in arts, such as architecture, teaching, working in museums and art organizations, or even art-therapy.
Your work environment could be chosen depending on your preferences from working independently to quick paced, socially active workplaces. Other career paths for Studio Art graduates may include artist, photographer, art director, art conservator, nonprofit management, arts administrator or future MFA study.
