The Social Studies major at CSU provides you with a comprehensive program for seeking teaching licensure.
You will complete your major through the History Department in the College of Arts and Sciences and earn the Minor in Secondary Education through the Levin College of Public Affairs and Education.
The primary mission of the Social Studies major is to provide you with the content competency to teach Social Studies in secondary schools. It also provides the necessary critical thinking, analytical reasoning and academic judgment skills with which to embark on a lifetime of intellectual growth.
While most students in the program become secondary Social Studies teachers, this degree prepares you for a variety of potential careers.

There are many opportunities for Social Studies students at CSU.
Social studies majors have the opportunity to participate in the award-winning Cleveland Teaching Collaborative, a network of PK-12 and higher education instructors based at CSU.
Many receive their teaching license through CSUTeach in Levin College of Public Affaird and Education or their M.A. with the Masters of Urban Secondary Teaching program. They also have the opportunity to engage with the Center for Public History + Digital Humanities on public history projects like Cleveland Historical.
