The Department of Physics offers a flexible degree for students interested in pursuing physics and provides extensive opportunities for student engagement in undergraduate research, teaching and leadership development.

The Bachelor of Arts in Physics is designed to prepare students for a broad range of technical and science careers or graduate professional programs (medical physics, patent processing, teaching). It is constructed to give an in-depth and broad look into the world of Physics, while aiming for a flexible schedule of classes allowing pursuit of a double major

If desired, the Bachelor of Arts program allows for seamless transition to the Bachelor of Science in Physics degree path.

Alumni of the department are highly successful in obtaining employment at leading institutions (e.g. Cleveland Clinic Foundation, GE, Philips, Sherwin-Williams, PPG Industries, Columbia Chemical, ProMedica Health System, National Renewable Energy Lab, Affinity Consulting Group, U.S. Census Bureau) and at local high schools (Hawkin, Hathaway Brown, Gilmore, John Hay, St. Joseph Academy) as well as getting admitted to graduate programs (e.g. Kent State University, Cleveland State University). Career opportunities include:

There are many opportunities available to Physics majors at CSU.

▶ Ability to gain valuable teaching experience by assisting with basic physics labs

▶ Ability to participate in original undergraduate research with faculty using state of the art research facilities

▶ Ability to gain leadership skills through serving as an officer for CSU’s chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS)

▶ Eligibility for local and national physics scholarships as well as awards through the National SPS office

▶ Eligibility for TEAM-UP Together Scholarships to support African American students in the pursuit and attainment of their bachelor’s degrees in physics

▶ Opportunities to participate in interdisciplinary original research projects supported locally or nationally (e.g. by NSF, DOE, NIH) in collaboration with other CSU science and engineering departments and other research institutions (e.g. CWRU, NASA, KSU, Akron University, etc.)
