

LINGUISTICS
The goal of linguistics is to gain a scientific understanding of the nature of language that can be applied in many areas, such as anthropology, speech and hearing, language teaching, computational linguistics and cognitive science.

The Linguistics program is an undergraduate interdisciplinary program, offering a major and a minor in Linguistics.
▶ Some credits in anthropology, English and Speech and Hearing may be double counted
▶ The program also includes courses from communication, education, modern languages and psychology
▶ After establishing a background in the structure of language, you can go on to tailor your degree with a variety of electives allowing you to integrate your linguistic studies with other academic interests
A B.A. in Linguistics prepares you for a variety of careers.
▶ Translator or interpreter
▶ Computer industry on speech recognition, search engines, etc.
▶ Work for the government in the FBI, CIA or military
▶ Work in education, teaching languages (English or a foreign language; in the US or abroad)
▶ Work on language documentation and preservation with organizations that work on preservation of endangered languages, such as SIL or Living Tongues professional
