WelcomeAll,
First and foremost, thank each and every one of you who have looked through the sale book online or in hand and have reached out with questions on this year’s set of bulls. Saying we are “proud” does not come close to describing our feelings about this group. As most of you very well know, our family is very passionate — particularly about the cattle business and the cattle we offer. This year’s set has as much versatility as any we have ever assembled. We are eager to share these offerings with you, and again, we deeply appreciate your consideration of our program.

With that said, what a time to be in the beef business! Cattle are finally at a value that allows them to be profitable. The time to be involved is now. The weigh bull and cow market has made it doable to invest in genetics that often times are not reachable. Take advantage of the bulls in this offering that are geared toward female retention. This lineup is stacked with some of our most prolific cow families, and they are bred with growth, performance and longevity. Similar to past years, we have remained consistent in our dedication to offering cattle that will thrive in any environment and be up to the challenge of performing, regardless of your goals. We are so proud to offer a larger group of heifer-safe bulls. Additionally, the cow bulls have more growth, performance and efficiency than ever before. Round Prairie Feeders has yet again provided an environment where these bulls will perform on a high fiber, roughage diet with no corn. This offering has converted and been developed in a way so they will not break down or fall apart.
Customer service is our passion, and we want to be as involved as our customers want us to be. Let us know how we can better serve you. With that in mind, all bulls sell with a breeding soundness exam, a first-year breeding guarantee and free delivery within the first 500 miles. This year we have implemented a new service as well. We are going to print registration papers and present them to you, in hand and upon delivery. The respective associations can mail you additional copies as necessary. If these customer service premiums demonstrate anything, we hope it is that we not only stand behind these cattle 100%, but we support you and your operational goals as well.
We take pride in working with and alongside our customers. As a family, we know we cannot successfully achieve our goals without helping you achieve yours. We look at every customer as a partner and together, we are tasked with the challenge of making better beef together. As always, we are greatly appreciative of your support, and we look forward to the year ahead.

Don’t buy a bull. Buy a program. Thank you & God bless.
The Vehige Family

GENETIC SELECTION TOOLS
GENOMIC ENHANCED EPDs —
Purchasing bulls with genomic-enhanced expected progeny differences (GE-EPDs) allows commercial producers to make selection decisions with less risk due to an increase in the accuracy of a non-parent animal’s EPDs. The addition of genomic data to an EPD is comparable to adding another source of information, like progeny or pedigree records. Specifically on lowly heritable traits, such as reproductive traits, genomic data has the potential to greatly increase the accuracy of an EPD prediction and can be demonstrated. The progeny equivalent table explains how many calves worth of data was added with genomic testing.
By the Numbers
CED
CALVING EASE DIRECT —
Percent of unassisted births of a bull’s calves when he is used on heifers. A higher number is favorable, meaning better calving ease.
BW
BIRTH WEIGHT —
Predicts the difference, in pounds, for birth weight of the calf.
WW
WEANING WEIGHT —
Predicts the difference, in pounds, for weaning weight (adjusted to age of dam and a standard 205 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to weaning.
YW
ACROSS BREED COMPARISON —
Because AGA breeders have chosen to collaborate with members of other North American breed associations to pool their pedigree, performance, and genomic data for a multi-breed NCE, most Gelbvieh and Balancer® animals’ EPDs can be directly comparable with other animals in the registries of other partner breed associations within the IGS group. Gelbvieh and Balancer EPDs that are excluded from direct comparison included: heifer pregnancy, 30-month pregnancy and dry matter intake. The $Cow, efficiency profit index and FPI™ indices are unique to the AGA and are not comparable across breeds.
CALVING EASE EPDs —
AGA now allows for the use of data from contemporary groups with no variation. This change resulted in thousands of calving scores and birth weights becoming available for genetic prediction in the BOLT-powered EPDs, reducing bias and providing you with calving ease direct (CED) and calving ease maternal (CEM) EPDs with even more power to predict the difference in ease of calving in heifers.
CARCASS EPDs —
A true multi-trait evaluation with all carcass and ultrasound traits plus weaning weight and post-weaning gain is used. This compared to the old evaluation where carcass EPDs were simply an index of the carcass trait and its corresponding ultrasound trait leads to a slight increase in accuracy for carcass EPDS.
MILK
YEARLING WEIGHT —
Predicts the expected difference, in pounds, for yearling weight (adjusted to a standard 365 days of age). This is an indicator of growth from birth to yearling.
MILK —
The genetic ability of a sire’s daughters to produce milk expressed in pounds of weaning weight.
DOC DOCILITY —
Reported as a percentage, with higher numbers indicating a higher percent of offspring receiving a disposition score of 1 (docile).
YG
YIELD GRADE —
Differences in yield grade score, which is a predictor of percent retail product. Smaller values suggest that progeny will have a better lean to fat ratio.
CREA
RIBEYE AREA —
Differences in ribeye area in inches between the 12th and 13th rib. Greater ribeye areas are preferable.
MARB MARBLING —
Predicts the differences in the degree of marbling within the ribeye as expressed in marbling score units. Greater marbling numbers are preferable and are an indicator of higher carcass quality grades.
FPI FEEDER PROFIT INDEX —
An economic selection index designed to aid producers in selecting sires whose progeny will perform in the feedlot and are sold on a grade and yield standpoint. Well ranking sires have higher marbling and carcass weight than their contemporaries. As a terminal index, little emphasis is put on maternal traits such as stayability and calving ease.

I bet this guy’s picture made you take a second look! 5024K has been a scale-bustin’ beast his entire life. He smashed the scale at 975lbs in May before he headed to the developing yard. He’s massive in his body shape and scale. He’s been easy doing and stout since he hit the ground. Not to mention, here’s one that’s homo-black and homo-polled by birthright. This is an awesome bull who will work for seedstock and commercial outfits alike.

FEMALE MAKER! This homo-black, homo-polled son of the Immortal Tessa W102 has the look of an elite female maker. He’s ideal for female retention – smooth patterned, square footed and soft in his look. Not to worry, he’s still better than breed average for both growth columns. Study hard on this one. Chances to have female makers with this kind of pedigree are almost obsolete. He was 875lbs of solid beef upon entering the developing pen.

I literally smiled while writing this homo-black, homo-polled stud’s footnote. He combines three of my favorite families along with one of my favorite cows of all time. Joe Neuner called me almost daily to brag about these two “Toots” sons, and Jaycie Forbes called the same number of times to ask about them. 5016K is as incredible of a calving ease bull as we’ve ever had. Not to forget, he’s complete with growth and performance. This one makes cool look comfortable with his back shape and wide skeleton. He’s in the Top 1% for CED and weighed a smooth 70lbs out of a first-calf heifer. I don’t have time to write everything I want to say about this bull, but if I was you, I’d pay attention to him.

HOMO-BLACK, HOMO-POLLED A LA MODE SON! Okay, now that I got that out of my system, let’s get to business. This 81.3% bull is right up our alley. He’s sound legged and sharp looking with an awesome growth pattern. His full brother brought $16,000 in last year’s sale, and I’m proud to say this one is better. He fixes his brother in his tailhead and sheath. This bull’s phenotype and consistent figures work with his state-of-the-art pedigree. He’s a good one. He is the kind to build better beef.
This homo-black, homo-polled Roundhouse son weaned off at 790lbs! His donor dam Tessa has made her mark on this breed and the beef business as a whole. Study his picture and video, and study him in the pen. There isn’t much to dismiss about this clean-sheathed, big-shaped bull. Kyle and I talk over this bull regularly. We love his shape, density and power, but what is most unique is his ability to remain flexible and sound on the move. Here’s a cowboy’s kind of bull that will tidy and muscle up your cows.

Without question, he’s the best red Balancer bull we have EVER offered in our tenure in this breed. He’s got bad to the bone foot shape and high-quality structure. Even more, he’s massive in his shape and clean in his build, sheath and look. He’s as proportional and square as I’ve seen in a bull in quite some time. Homo-polled by birthright, 1097K’s mother is one of the best uddered cows we have. He’s in the Top 10% for YG and the Top 1% for CFAT, which leads us to believe this bull is going to make high-cutability, shapely-muscled feeder cattle that have a sharp look. He’s awesome on his feet and legs and is clean in his design. He weaned off at 52% of his cow’s body weight.
This homo-black, manly bull prospect is a maternal brother to Rory Rooks’ “Fancy” that she successfully campaigned for the past two years. Here’s one that’s great in his bone work and structure. This high-quality footed bull’s mother is exquisite in her udder and fleshing ability. 1150K has big time muscle shape and bull features. I’m confident he’s going to add power to his calf crop. He weaned off at 56% of his cow’s body weight.

His mother is a big-scaled, good-doing cow that’s really done well for us. He weighed 690lbs the day these bulls headed to the grow yard.

This homo-black and homo-polled Casino son is an awesome way to start this sire group! His mother’s a big-scaled, high-performing cow that has sent several sons to some of our best customers. This bull is clean made, square shaped and really good in his bone and presence. He weighed 650lbs at weaning and hasn’t looked back. He’s strong in his carcass weight and carcass fat figures and will certainly work good for female retention as well. Study this one hard! He’s the right kind –weaning off at 50% of his cow’s body weight.

Burly! This homo-polled Casino son has a “case of the big legs”. He’s out of an awesome-uddered, good-doing cow, and she really clicked with our Casino bull. 1145K is not only big backed and thick ended, but he also carries his weight with the foot quality and flexibility these Casino calves are stamped with. He’s consistent in his figures and masculine in the pen, and he weighed 820lbs when he headed to the grow yard.

THERE IS ONLY ONE WORD THAT I COULD USE TO DESCRIBE THE VEHIGES AND THAT WORD IS FAMILY. A FEW YEARS AGO, I REACHED OUT TO THEM IN SEARCH OF A GELBVIEH BULL AND SOME MORE COWS TO ADD TO MY GROWING HERD. I HAD JUST STARTED TO DEVELOP MY OWN GELBVIEH PROGRAM AND WANTED TO EXPAND. I WAS IMPRESSED FROM THE MOMENT I MET THEM. NOT ONLY DID THEY WELCOME ME INTO THEIR OWN HOME, THEY SAT DOWN AND DISCUSSED EVERY TYPE OF GENETICS THAT THEY HAD TO HELP ME MAKE MY FINAL DECISION ON WHAT I WAS TRULY LOOKING FOR TO BUILD MY BUSINESS. OVER THE YEARS, WE HAVE BUILT A GREAT FRIENDSHIP. THEY TRAVELED OVER THREE STATES AWAY TO VISIT WITH ME AND TO COME OBSERVE MY GELBVIEH CATTLE AND FARM. THEY ARE STEADILY ENCOURAGING ME TO THIS DAY TO KEEP PURSUING MY DREAMS AND PASSIONS IN THIS BUSINESS. IN MY OWN PERSONAL OPINION, THEY ARE THE BEST GELBVIEH AND BALANCER BREEDER IN THE COUNTRY. THE REASON I SAY THIS IS BECAUSE THEIR BULLS HOLD THEIR VALUE, SHAPE, AND OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE ALL YEAR ROUND. I APPRECIATE EVERYTHING THAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR ME. THEY WILL ALWAYS BE CONSIDERED PART OF MY FAMILY.

5015K is one bad motor scooter folks. This bull is a flush mate to Hadley Hartman’s fifth overall heifer at the Red Angus junior nationals this past summer. 4019K is out of our timeless Weigh Up son we call “Darrell”. This smooth-made, big-bodied bull has a good set of feet and legs. I would 10/10 recommend keeping daughters out of this guy. WE BECAME CUSTOMERS OF T BAR S IN SEARCH OF BULLS THAT WOULD IMPROVE OUR COW-CALF OPERATION. WE OWN 8 T BAR S BULLS AND HAVE GREAT SUCCESS WITH THEM. IN OWNING THESE BULLS, WE HAVE GAINED POUNDS OF WEANING WEIGHT ON OUR CALVES, IMPROVED DOCILITY IN RETAINED HEIFERS, AND HAVE CREATED A MORE UNIFORM CALF CROP TO TAKE TO MARKET. THE BULLS HAVE BEEN GREAT TO GET ALONG WITH. WE ARE SO PLEASED WITH OUR BULLS THAT WE WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE WHO WISHES TO IMPROVE THEIR HERD.
