Explained: How Seasonal Hydrant Flushing Keeps Clearview’s Water Systems Running You may be familiar with the annual notices, but do you know why our Public Works Department flushes hydrants each Spring and Fall? Hydrant flushing in Clearview is completed twice a year to maintain the quality of the drinking water system and to ensure proper disinfection levels, with the added benefit of assisting with pressure in towns. Systems are flushed using high-velocity water flows, and in some locations, foam swabs clean the interior walls of the watermains, to help remove accumulated mineral deposits (like iron) and any sediment that settles in the watermains.
The twice-annual flushing also acts as a quality check, allowing staff to exercise the hydrants and make sure they are in proper working order. What do I need to know or watch for when flushing is occurring in my area? We recommend leaving water softeners in bypass mode Water interruptions can potentially occur Discoloured water could stain laundry during flushing If your water remains discoloured or dirty, run it until it clears To learn more about the services that the water department is responsible for and water and sewer operations in Clearview, including frequently asked questions and annual water reports, visit: clearview.ca/water-and-sewer.

Protecting our Community: Recruiting Paid-on-Call Firefighters Clearview Fire and Emergency Services (CFES) is recruiting paid-on-call firefighters for our stations located in Stayner, New Lowell, Creemore, Nottawa and Singhampton. What does it look like to be a paid-on-call firefighter? Paid-on-call firefighters play a critical role in protecting our communities. They respond to a wide variety of emergencies, including structure fires, vehicle collisions, medical assists, rescues and other public safety incidents. CFES operates as a paid-on-call fire service. Firefighters are compensated for training and emergency responses while maintaining careers, businesses, studies and family commitments outside the fire service. When a call for service is received, firefighters travel from home or work to their assigned station, put on their protective gear, board the apparatus and respond to the emergency. Very seldom are firefighters already at the station when a call comes in. Being a paid-on-call firefighter requires dedication and commitment, but it also offers the opportunity to develop valuable skills, build lasting friendships and make a meaningful difference in the lives of neighbours when they need help most. The department's paid-on-call firefighters are supported by full-time staff responsible for training, fire prevention and public education programs.
APPLICATIONS DUE NOV. 1 Training and Recruitment Process No previous firefighting experience is required. All recruit training is completed in-house at no cost to successful applicants. Recruit firefighters receive more than 200 hours of mandatory training, including NFPA Level 1 and Level 2 firefighter certification and Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Awareness and Operations training. Training takes place during evenings and weekends beginning in January. How to Apply: Send your resume and Firefighter Application Form to sdoyle@clearview.ca by November 1. Important Dates November 1: Application deadline November 4-9: Applicants selected for interviews will be notified by email November 26: CPAT and interviews at Fire Station 1, Stayner January 2027: Mandatory Recruit Class begins (evening and weekend training) For full recruitment details, view the Paid-onCall Job Opportunity on our website.

Meet the Fire Department Dedicated to educating and keeping communities safe in emergency situations Clearview Township’s Fire and Emergency Services Department maintains a roster of approximately 80 dedicated firefighters operating from five strategically located fire stations under the direction of the Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief. While Clearview operates primarily with volunteer firefighters, members are trained to the same standards as career firefighters and respond to the same types of emergencies. Firefighters receive National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Level 1 and 2 training, as well as Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Awareness and Operations certification. Reflecting the unique needs of the area, members also receive specialized training in high-angle rope rescue and ice-water rescue. The department's operations are organized into three divisions: Training; Fire Prevention and Public Education; and Suppression. These divisions support the department's three lines of defence: public fire and life safety education, fire code enforcement, and emergency response. Department staff maintain an active presence throughout the community, including in schools, at public events, and through emergency management initiatives. Through ongoing training, public education, prevention efforts, and emergency response, Clearview's Fire and Emergency Services Department remains committed to protecting residents, businesses, and visitors across the communities it serves.
