Uses of Rifagut Tablets

Rifagut (Generic Rifaximin Tablets) is used to treat traveler's diarrhea that is caused by a bacteria called Escherichia coli. It is also used to prevent hepatic encephalopathy, which is a condition that occurs when your liver does not work normally. This medicine is also efficacious in relieving chronic functional symptoms of bloating and flatulence that are common in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), especially IBS-D. Rifaximin is an antibiotic that works by killing the bacteria and preventing its growth.Rifaximin is highly effective at preventing and treating traveler's diarrhea, with few side effects and low risk of developing antibiotic resistance.

Rifagut Tablets During Pregnancy

Rifaximin (Rifagut tablets) is classified by the US FDA as Pregnancy

Category C.

There are no adequate and well controlled studies conducted in pregnant women. Rifaximin has been shown to be teratogenic in rats and rabbits at doses that caused maternal toxicity. Rifaximin tablets (Rifagut tablets) should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

It is not known at present if Rifaximin is excreted in human milk. Because many medicines are excreted in human milk and because of the potential for adverse reactions in nursing infants from Generic Rifaximin, a decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or to discontinue the drug, taking into account the importance of the medicine to the mother.
