Pirfenex (Generic Pirfenidone Tablets), is an antifibrotic agent is used to treat mild to moderate forms of a certain lung disease called idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). This disease causes the lungs to get scarred and become stiff, making it hard to breathe.
Pirfenidone may help slow down the worsening of IPF.
The dosage of Pirfenex tablets (Generic Pirfenidone Tablets) is given below: The recommended initial dose of Pirfenex (Generic Pirfenidone tablets) for adults is 200 mg, three times a day (600 mg/day), after a meal. Gradually increase the dose to 600 mg, three times a day (1,800 mg/day), under observation . Furthermore, appropriately increase or decrease the dose from time to time depending upon the symptoms. The treatment has to be started with 200 mg tablets given three times a day (600 mg/day). After 2 weeks, the dose has to be gradually increased by 200 mg at a time. It is desirable to maintain or achieve a final dose of 600 mg at a time (1,800 mg/day).

The dosage of Pirfenex tablets (Generic Pirfenidone Tablets) is given below: Patients who miss their dose for 14 consecutive days or more of Pirfenidone treatment should re-initiate therapy by undergoing the initial dose titration regimen up to the recommended daily dose.

Photosensitivity and Rash: Photosensitivity and rash have been observed with Pirfenex tablets. Avoid exposure to sunlight and sunlamps.This medication may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when outdoors. Tell your doctor immediately if you get sunburned or have skin blisters/redness. Temporary dosage reductions or discontinuations may be required.
Gastrointestinal Disorders: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and abdominal pain have occurred with Generic Pirfenidone tablets. Temporary dosage reductions or discontinuations may be required.
Before using this medicine, inform your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: liver disease, kidney disease (such as dialysis).
This medicine can make you dizzy or tired or drowsy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do any activity that requires alertness until you are sure you can perform such activities safely. Limit alcoholic beverages.
Before having surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products you take (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products).
Tiredness, lack of energy, drowsiness, loss of appetite, weight loss, or changes in taste may occur. Dizziness, nausea, upset stomach, vomiting, diarrhea, or heartburn may also occur but taking Pirfenidone with food may lessen these side effects. If any of these side effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or health care provider promptly.

Pirfenidone may rarely cause serious liver disease. Get medical help right away if you have any symptoms of liver damage, including: persistent nausea/vomiting, loss of appetite, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine.
