The recommended dosage of Mesacol Rectal

is one rectal suppository administered rectally once daily at bedtime for 3 to 6 weeks. The suppository must be retained for one to three hours or longer, if possible. The usual course of therapy is from three to six weeks depending on symptoms and sigmoidoscopic findings. Safety and effectiveness beyond 6 weeks have not been established. In case a patient misses a dose of Mesacol, it should be administered as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not double doses.

Hepatic Failure: Evaluate the risks and benefits in patients with known liver impairment. Severe Cutaneous Adverse Reactions: Discontinue at the first signs or symptoms of severe cutaneous adverse reactions or other signs of hypersensitivity and consider further evaluation.

A very serious allergic reaction to Mesacol is rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including: rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing.

Severe salicylate intoxication may lead to electrolyte and blood pH imbalance and potentially to other organ (e.g., renal and liver) involvement.
