Uses of Flexura Tablets

Flexura Tablets (Generic Metaxalone Tablets) is used to help relax the muscles in your body and relieve the discomfort caused by acute (short-term), painful muscle or bone conditions. However, this medicine does not take the place of rest, exercise, physical therapy, or other treatments that your doctor may recommend for your condition. Metaxalone is a skeletal muscle relaxant. It acts on the central nervous system (CNS) to relax muscles. The mode of action of this medication has not been clearly identified, but may be related to its sedative properties. Warnings

Cases of Serotonin syndrome, a potentially life-threatening condition , have been observed during concomitant use of serotonergic drugs with Flexura Tablets (Generic Metaxalone) used within the recommended dosage range and with Flexura tablets as a single agent taken at doses higher than the recommended dose. Flexura Tablets (Generic Metaxalone) could increase the effects of alcohol and other CNS depressants. Metaxalone tablets should be administered with great care to patients with pre-existing liver damage. Serial liver function studies should be performed in these patients.

False-positive Benedict's tests, due to an unknown reducing substance, have been noted. A glucose-specific test will differentiate findings.

Warnings

Taking Flexura tablets with food may enhance general CNS depression; elderly patients may be especially susceptible to this CNS effect. Generic Metaxalone could impair mental and/or physical abilities necessary for performance of hazardous tasks, such as operating machinery or driving a motor vehicle, especially when used with alcohol or other CNS depressants. Flexura Tablets (Generic Metaxalone) could increase the effects of alcohol, barbiturates and other CNS depressants. The sedative effects of Generic Metaxalone tablets and other CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, benzodiazepines, opioids, tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs)) may be additive. Exercise caution with patients who take more than one of these CNS depressants simultaneously.

Overdose

Deaths by deliberate or accidental overdose have occurred with Metaxalone tablets, particularly in combination with antidepressants and have been reported with this class of medications in combination with alcohol. Serotonin syndrome has been reported when Flexura tablets were used at doses higher than the recommended dose. When determining the LD 50 (Median lethal dose) in rats and mice, progressive sedation, hypnosis and finally respiratory failure were noted as the dosage increased.
