GET WEISS: MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR CHAMBER BENEFITS By Ashley Weiss Membership Engagement Director

The mission of the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is to be the champion for business success and quality of life, creating a thriving destination and driving community prosperity, and one of the ways our organization does that is by hosting community and business events throughout the year. In 2023, our events welcomed more than 260,000 people and had over a $20 million economic impact in our community. The Chamber hosts 17 community events throughout the year – Color the Wind Kite Festival, TRI Clear Lake, July 4th Celebration, Harvest Festival, Christmas by the Lake and 11 Thursdays on Main – and a variety of business and networking opportunities, including the Annual Meeting & Awards Presentation, Business After Hours, Quarterly Coffee and the Golf FUNdraiser.

And in return, those members gain visibility through online, social media and printed marketing the Chamber does to promote these events before, during and after them. I can’t think of a better way to get your name and logo in front of hundreds of thousands of people — including potential customers or future employees — than to sponsor a band during Thursdays on Main, a 10-week event that drew more than 69,000 people this year, or supporting the Color the Wind Kite Festival, an event that has grown to attract nearly 20,000 people in the bitter cold of February. Not only does your sponsorship support us and the work we do, but it shows the community that you care about the quality of life so many residents and visitors cherish here. We hope you’ll join us and consider supporting one of our great events so we can continue to offer them in 2024 and well into the future.

For more information about our sponsorship opportunities, Sponsorships — investments made by our members — make view our 2024 Sponsorship Book online here or reach out to Events Director Trish Fundermann at trish@clearlakeiowa.com. these events happen. If you manage the Facebook page for your business or organization, this is your friendly reminder to claim your username. Without an appropriate @username people may not be able to tag you. Tagging of your page on others provides free exposure to more people, including potential customers or supporters. Here’s a quick guide on how to make sure yours is claimed: On your Facebook home screen from your desktop or mobile device, select your icon. Then, click “Settings & Privacy,” followed by “Settings” where you’ll see your General Page Settings, including Page Name and Username. A username doesn’t need to be complicated. Our Clear Lake, Iowa Facebook page’s username is simply facebook.com/ClearLakeIowa/. You want to make sure it’s something someone would think to use to tag your business or organization. Questions? Call Ashley Weiss at 641-357-2159 or stop into the Chamber at 205 Main Ave. and she’d be more than happy to walk you through the steps.

Volunteers Needed! Are you looking to give back to our beautiful community while getting to know other people and have fun in the New Year? If so, the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce can help! Our organization hosts 17 signature events throughout the year — Color the Wind, Earth Day, TRI Clear Lake, July 4th Celebration, Harvest Festival, Christmas by the Lake and 11 fabulous Thursdays on Main — and they wouldn’t be possible without people stepping up to give of their time and talents to support our team.

So, consider volunteering at Bingo during the July 4th Celebration, signing up to help with TRI Clear Lake, enlisting in wine or beer pouring at Harvest Festival, or reaching out to learn of other volunteer opportunities by calling Jenny Fasbender at 641-357-2159 or emailing her at jennifer@clearlakeiowa.com. www.clearlakeiowa.com

December 2023 Newsletter Harvest Festival showcases downtown on beautiful fall day Downtown Clear Lake was buzzing with activity during the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s 19th annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 7 – a picture-perfect fall day. Nearly 12,000 people gathered for the popular fall event that features live music, shopping, food trucks, a homemade salsa contest, grape stomp competition, hayrides, wine and beer tastings, and the Champagne 5K fun run/walk. The event kicked off with a Barbie-themed Champagne 5K, sponsored by Nash & Ivy, Glow on the Go, Bergland + Cram, Rookies, Sevens and TAP’d, with almost 200 participants, including several in costumes. Vladimir Starrett finished the race in first place. Harvest Festival is made possible by the dedicated committee as well as our presenting sponsors: MBT Bank, CL Tel, Larson’s Mercantile, Clear Lake Bank & Trust, Summit Carbon Solutions. Magical Christmas by the Lake weekend welcomes thousands More than 12,000 people attended Christmas by the Lake when it returned to downtown Clear Lake on Saturday, Dec. 2, with a full slate of holiday fun. The event — in its 28th year — is an award-winning celebration hosted by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce that features local favorites like the lighted parade and spectacular fireworks display over the lake and new additions like the Christmas tree-lighting ceremony. Nearly 250 people gathered for the brief tree-lighting ceremony on Friday, Dec. 1, at the City Park Bandshell, which included music from the Clear Lake High School acapella group Wavelength, remarks from City of Clear Lake Mayor Nelson Crabb, the lighting of the tree by Adeline Lovell, and an Adeline’s Army toy drive. In addition to the Chamber’s scheduled events, numerous community organizations and businesses had live music, treats, crafts, sales, activities, and games throughout the weekend to make this familyfriendly festival one to remember. The event is made possible thanks to the generosity of our presenting sponsors: Clear Lake Bank & Trust, CL Tel, Curries | ASSA ABLOY, ITC Midwest, and Pritchard Companies and activity sponsors. Class of 2024 Lake Leadership Program takes off The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce kicked off its Lake Leadership Class, comprising 24 individuals representing area businesses from North Iowa, in September. Lake Leadership is the Chamber's flagship program meeting once a month from September through May on the third Wednesday. The program is designed to educate civic-minded individuals by using our community as a classroom. Lake Leadership will takes participants behind the scenes in the Clear Lake area, providing them the opportunity to network with their peers and learn more about our community and area businesses. In October, the class learned about the area’s banking system and economic development. In November, they learned about education in North Iowa with tours and presentations at Clear Lake Community School District and North Iowa Area Community College. In December, the class got a firsthand look at area health and recreational opportunities, and in January, they will learn about Clear Lake’s businesses and industries. Interested in joining the Lake Leadership Class of 2025? Please email Stacy Doughan at stacy@clearlakeiowa.com for more information or to request the Lake Leadership application.
