Our Journey

In early 2004, being unable to find quality natural skincare products, Mark & Melanie Chapman decided to have a go at making their own products for personal use.

Friends and family took interest, word spread and from humble beginnings, Clean & Pure was born and quickly and grew into a commerical business.

Clean & Pure are now stocked in retailers around Australia. Located in many well known health food outlets, pharmacies, supermarkets, service stations and department stores.

Our all natural product range now extends to lip balms, moisturising creams, skincare balms, soaps and sunscreens.

Our Growth

In 2017, Clean & Pure commenced exporting to international markets. Our brand is now available in New Zealand, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong and the USA, with more countries expressing their interest for future growth and expansion.

Our successes in export markets were recognised with three major export awards from the Australian National and State governments celebrating our acheivements in growing our brand in other countries.

Our extensive range of lip balms are 100% natural, made with natural beeswax, extra virgin olive oil and contain vitamin E to help protect and soothe dry and cracked lips.

As the only brand in the world to use real manuka honey in our lip balms, we have perfected a unique formula that allows us to blend water based honey with oil and wax into a solid lip balm without the need for artificial additives. This technique has allowed us to transfer the concept to other flavours such as Vanilla.

Clean & Pure uses iconic Australian ingredients such as Manuka Honey, Pawpaw and Beeswax from Australian farms.

Our beeswax comes from honey farms located within Western Australia’s pristine forests and we use the highest grade WA grown extra virgin olive oil, whose trees flourish in the clean and green landscape of WA’s Great Southwest.

A Deeper Dive into our Lip Balms

Honey Lip Balm - The Real Deal

When our honey lip balm journey began, we discovered that as honey is water-based, it does not mix with oil and wax. So, we challenged ourselves to find out how we can mix water and oil and still be 100% natural.

That means not using emulsifiers, stabilisers and preservatives.

The answer was a mechanical process to micronise the honey, then maintain suspension in the balm solution. We lowered our temperatures as low as possible before loading the mixture into the tube. This solidifies within 7-8 seconds with the honey fully suspended through out the lip balm.

This makes Clean & Pure the only company in the world that produces a solid Manuka Honey lip balm. We were awarded an R & D Status for developing this process.

You may see other companies using “honey” in their products but most of the time this is “honey flavouring” which is a man-made honey flavoured oil.

By solving this issue we found other key ingredients also act in a similar way - e.g. Vanilla. Our competitors use “vanilla flavouring” while our products use 100% natural vanilla extract.

The safety of chemical-based sunscreens has been a growing concern in recent years, with numerous studies and regulatory bodies raising red flags about the potential health and environmental hazards posed by certain ingredients. In September 2021, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) stated that zinc oxide is a safe and effective ingredient for sunscreen, leaving questions about the safety of commonly used chemical-based sunscreens.

In December 2021, the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) took action by recalling several well-known brands of sunscreen due to the presence of benzenes, a known carcinogen. The following April, another six popular sunscreen products were recalled for the same reason.

At Clean & Pure, we have always been committed to using natural ingredients in our products. Our skepticism about the safety of chemical-based sunscreens stems from our belief that they may pose a risk to both human health and the environment.
