TRUCK DRIVER TRAINING (CDL) (10-0) 10 HOURS This 160-hour basic training course will prepare you for a career as a commercial truck driver. Gain the knowledge and skills to prepare for the state-issued Commercial Drivers License (CDL) exams, including the permit test, pre-trip inspection test, skills tests, and road tests. You will learn CDL laws, use of controls, safe driving techniques, and defensive driving.

The course includes classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel training and utilizes practices tests designed to prepare you for the CDL permit exam.

Prerequisites: Students must have a valid Illinois Drivers License Class “D” or above. They may not have committed a serious traffic violation in a commercial motor vehicle within the past 12 months. Students must provide a copy of their Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the Secretary of State’s Office prior to enrollment. Students must not have any physical limitation which affects their driving ability and have use of all their limbs, both eyes, corrected or not, and not be legally deaf. Students currently on bond or parole are not eligible for the program. Because all CDL testing is conducted in English, students must be able to speak, read, write and understand English.

Industry and Safety FLAGGER CERTIFICATION AND WORK ZONE SAFETY Prepare for your first day on the job by familiarizing yourself with the essential issues of worker safety and work zone traffic control. The National Safety Council’s Flagger Training Programs are nationally recognized and meet or exceed both the MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) guidelines and the ANSI standard ISEA-107-1999 to keep your crew and motorists safe. Security Officer These 10-hour classes are intended for entry-level workers and are taught by Gilbert Velez, an OSHA-authorized trainer with more than 20 years of experience Become more knowledgeable about workplace hazards, your rights, and contribute to a safer, more productive work environment.

SECURITY OFFICER BASIC TRAINING (1.5-0) 1.5 HOURS Prepare yourself for a career in the security field as an unarmed security guard. You will earn state certification and be eligible for employment with a certified agency under the Illinois Private Detective, Private Security and Private Alarm Act by successfully completing this 20-hour Basic Training program. Learn the security code of ethics, public and human relations, Illinois Criminal code, fire and accident prevention, patrol procedures, liabilities, report writing, use of force, and search and seizure procedures.

OSHA 10-HOUR GENERAL INDUSTRY Help create a safe workplace and meet compliance standards in this fast-paced 10 hour course. You will learn OSHA regulations, frequently cited violations, and how to help your employer meet and maintain a safe work environment. Some of the specific topics include walking and working surfaces, hazard communication, electrical, emergency action plans, and fire protection. Upon successful completion, participants will receive an OSHA “10-hour” card.

SECURITY OFFICER FIREARM TRAINING (1.5-0) 1.5 HOURS If you have completed the 20-hour basic security officer course or possess a current PERC card, you may be ready to gain employment as an armed security guard. As mandated by the Illinois Private Detective, Private Security, and Private Alarm Act, you will learn the legal use of firearms, liability while armed, take a firearms safety test, and qualify at the firing range. A current Illinois Firearm Identification Card (FOID) is mandatory to receive firearms training.

Prerequisites: Security Officer Basic Training or current PERC, and valid FOID card.

Public Safety / Home Inspection Firearms Re-Qualification

Home Inspection

Current Armed Security Officers may complete their annual weapon re-qualification per Illinois State requirements by attending the last two days of the Security Officer Firearms Training course (PPSI 6). The first day is a review with the second day of the course will be held at a local firing range. Participants that are Illinois residents must have a valid Illinois Firearm Identification Card, and a valid PERC card. Enrollment for this program is by department consent; please call the department at (847) 543-2615 for more details.

ASP TACTICAL HANDCUFFING CERTIFICATION This program trains the security officer in the proper use and application of handcuffing and the ASP TRIFold Disposable Restraints. The TRI-folds are specifically design to law enforcement standards and can be easily and rapidly applied. The ASP Handcuffs provide a major advantage in both the design and construction of wrist restraints. Upon successful completion students will receive a certification from ASP in the use and deployment of Tactical Handcuffing.

Public Safety COMMUNITY SERVICE OFFICER (3-0) 3 HOURS Train for a position in a police department as a Community Service Officer (CSO). This non-sworn position augments police departments with uniformed civilian personnel authorized to operate police vehicles, issue parking tickets, control traffic, handle motor vehicle accidents, and handle animal complaints. Note: To be employed as a CSO, individuals must meet department standards which minimally include: 21 years or older, High School Diploma, have a valid Illinois Driver license with a clean driving record, have no criminal history, pass a department written exam and interview. Criteria for employment are set by individual law enforcement agencies.

A course designed to prepare students to take the state licensing examination for home inspectors is offered by Continuing Professional Development at CLC. This 60-hour course, which is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, covers all the major elements of home inspection. In addition to meeting the course requirement (Course Code PRLE 40), State of Illinois Licensing Examination applicants must be high school graduates and a minimum of 21 years of age.

Licensing of home inspectors in the State of Illinois has been required since January 2003. The home inspection course is designed to meet the needs of hose with a working knowledge of contracting, the building trades, architecture, or engineering. Others who may benefit are appraisers, adjusters, and property managers as well as home inspectors who need a refresher before taking the state licensing exam.

Real Estate BROKER PRE-LICENSING TOPICS (5-0) 5 HOURS This course, with the Broker Pre-Licensing Applied Principles course (PRLE 3), fulfills the new education requirements for obtaining an Illinois Real Estate Broker license. You are required to attend all sessions which include: introduction to the license law and real property; basics of agency, seller and buyer relationships and counseling; local, state and federal laws effecting real estate; brokerage, marketing and advertising; market analysis and appraisal; financing, contracts, independent contractor and employee status, occupational disciplines and business planning. Broker Requirements A student must meet all the requirements to be able to fill to take the Broker’s or Managing Broker’s Examination given by the State of Illinois. PRLE 2 and PRLE 3 fulfill the required broker prelicensing exam course requirements. Attendance for all class hours and a passing score of 75 percent or better on the final exams are required, as mandated by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. In addition to meeting the course requirements, an applicant for the State of Illinois licensing examination must be a high school graduate (or GED recipient) and 21 years of age, or 18 years of age and have two years of college course work.

BROKER PRE-LICENSING APPLIED PRINCIPLES (1-0) 1 HOUR This course, with the Broker Pre-Licensing Topics course (PRLE 2), fulfills the new education requirements for obtaining an Illinois Real Estate Broker license. CERTIFIED NEGOTIATION EXPERT This class will provide the tools, approaches, and techniques for negotiating successful outcomes for clients, agents, and brokers/owners. Topics include how buyers buy, how sellers sell, the types of negotiators and negotiations, how to build trust, and how to make your negotiations successful. Eventy Planning/ Travel and Tourism Spanish Interpreter The Spanish Interpreter Certification Program prepares Spanish bilingual speakers to enter the field of oral interpretation. The program now consists of six sections, two covering the healthcare industry, two dealing with the field of education and the last sections detailing interpretation in the legal setting. Each course consists of 40 hours of classroom instruction and an additional 10 hours of clinical work experience. Program participants will learn interpretation techniques that will enable them to work in an educational, legal or healthcare environment. The majority of the classroom instruction is conducted in Spanish.

Training includes oral interpretation exercises, role playing, small group work, vocabulary study, Spanish/English grammar review, presentations, memory enhancing exercises, and a clinical presentation. The courses are independent so you may enroll at the start of any module. All new students will be required to successfully complete an assessment test at the first meeting of their initial class. Students may start the interpretation program by enrolling in any section.

Continuing Professional Development’s Leadership and Performance Management Series consists of five programs that utilize a “building-block” technique approach. Refund information: 2. Obtain CLC ID Number and Create myLogin Allow two working days to process your admission form application. You will receive your CLC student ID number in the mail. Visit www.clcillinois.edu/register to create your login.

3. Register for Classes

By Internet at www.clcillinois.edu/register When you are ready to select your classes, use the CLC Classes By Term. You must specify the semester and then a subject, such as English, to view the classes available. To select a subject area click on the magnifying glass and then press the ‘Look Up’ button.

When you find a specific class section you want, make note of the four-digit class number.

You may register on the Web or in person in the Admissions office, B101 at the Grayslake Campus, the Student Services office at the Lakeshore Campus or the main office at the Southlake Educational Center.

Online Self-Service requires that you have created myLogin. Once you have logged in, use the menu of options to add or drop classes, view your schedule, view grades or an unofficial transcript and use many other options. When you add or drop a class, check for a 'success' or 'error' message. Most errors are due to prerequisites not met or enrollment holds.

4. Pay Tuition and Fees To avoid being dropped from classes for non-payment, you must pay in full or enroll in the college’s FACTS installment tuition payment plan by your due date.

Check the amount of your bill online by logging into myStudentCenter and selecting the “View, Pay or Setup FACTS Plan” link. Financial aid is not available for Continuing Education classes.
