CLC CONTACTS
All students study a language to the end of Year 9 and can then elect to continue their studies through to Year 12.
Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of cultural activities, competitions and national language testing. Interaction with young people from Indonesian and Italian speaking countries and with other learners of the languages is facilitated in language classes and beyond, through contact with schools in those countries and using the internet. The chance to take part in study tours to Indonesia and Italy is also offered periodically to students in Years 10 to 12.
Listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are developed when learning a second language. Topics are relevant to the lives of young people both in Australia and in Indonesian or Italian speaking communities. Students will be encouraged to gain an understanding and appreciation of the cultural similarities and differences in these communities.
Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is integrated into many aspects of Language courses. It can provide a medium for authentic interaction, as well as for learning vocabulary, improving pronunciation and independent and collaborative learning.
When deciding which language to select, you should consider the following:
• the language you are enjoying
• the language that would be beneficial for your future
• the culture you would like to know more about.
If you enjoy and are doing equally well in both languages and do not have a preference for the one you would like to continue, then tick the either/or box.
Homework will involve tasks, which aim to consolidate work introduced in class and in some cases, to provide opportunities for extension. It is also essential that students set aside regular time for learning new vocabulary and grammatical items.

FOUR UNITS TO BE CHOSEN FOR THE YEAR
PERFORMING ARTS
We all need a little more Drama in our lives! In Year 8 Drama, students engage in games, improvisation and scripted works to build confidence and a stronger sense of self. Drama teaches us how to build friendships, create connections and tackle the real world with resilience, not avoidance.
In Year 8, we look at conventions of dramatic performance styles, creating a short film based on the style/s of your choice. Students also select and explore an historic moment in time, investigating the people, events and outcomes that shaped our civilisation. Students collaborate in groups to devise, script, rehearse and present live and recorded Drama works that explore the human condition, an endeavour that ultimately teaches us to value ourselves and those around us.
Got something to say about the world? Drama is YOUR chance!
PERFORMING ARTS
In Year 8 Dance, students explore the history of Dance through the genres of Jazz, Contemporary and Hip Hop. Students discover the influence of leading Choreographers and Dancers who impacted their style. After presenting research tasks on Dance history, students apply this knowledge to collaborate in groups to devise, rehearse and present Dance works in these genres.
Students also learn the movement vocabulary of choreography, including the Elements of Dance, Choreographic Devices and the Movement Categories. Students regularly engage in systematic dance/movement workshops to develop technique and safe dance awareness.

FOUR UNITS TO BE CHOSEN FOR THE YEAR
In Year 8 Music, students make and respond to music independently and collaboratively, with their peers, teachers and communities.
The four key content descriptors are:
• Explore and express ideas
• Music practices
• Present and Perform
• Respond and Interpret.
Students manipulate the elements of music and stylistic conventions to improvise, compose and perform music. They use evidence from listening and analysis to interpret, rehearse and perform songs and instrumental pieces in unison and in parts, demonstrating technical and expressive skills. They use music terminology and symbols to recognise, describe and notate selected features of music.
Students identify and analyse how the elements of music are used in different styles and apply this knowledge in their performances and compositions. They evaluate musical choices they and others have made to communicate ideas and intentions as performers and composers of music from different cultures, times and locations.
Assessment work will include:
• group and collaborative composing and performing of melodic and/or rhythmic parts
• non – western, world and Indigenous music involving digital composition and conventional notation
• African Drumming incursion
• response to culturally unique aural and visual prompts.
Students will also utilise instruments such as:
• Keyboards
• Ukulele
• tuned and untuned percussion to prepare and perform chords
• riffs and rhythmic patterns from pop and/ or rock styles.
A ‘found sound’ unit of work will engage students with the world around them as they record environmental sounds and integrate these with contemporary loops. A Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) is used to provide tools with which the students can manipulate sounds and tracks to achieve specific expressive outcomes.

STEM-MAD empowers students to use their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths knowledge to create positive change and ‘make a difference’ in the world. In this subject, Year 8 students will consolidate and strengthen their STEM skills and use them to innovate and generate solutions to a variety of challenges. Students will be challenged to consider how they can use their STEM learnings to be a responsible, global citizen of the world and make a positive impact on their local and global communities.
Additionally, students will navigate this through a design thinking framework by investigating, generating, producing and evaluating and practising the key 21st Century skills of critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and communication.
Learning activities will include both short and longer inquiries to generate curiosity and awareness but also to problem solve real world solutions.
