Principal personal motivation to "take the next step" is shared often and regularly. I have loved hearing your teachers' stories of your passion and engagement.

The energy, curiosity and sense of optimism that is so much a part of the young women of Catholic Ladies' College is what I will take with me as a cherished memory of my fifteen years as Principal.

Mrs Margaret McKenna Principal I have always appreciated and valued that the production of Ca ritas has been by the students and for the students, ably led and su pported by Mrs Lynn Mason and CLC staff. In my final Ca ritas reflection, I would particu larly like to address the am azing young women who ma ke up Catholic Ladies' College. Our 2015 theme: "Let our Light Shine" has seen your gifts an d talents shining in many different ways and places.

I hope that 2015 has provided each of you with experiences that have opened your thinking and challenged you in new ways and taken your gifts and talents to new heights. To "Let one's Light Shine" is to grow, develop and stretch ourselves beyond what we think is possible. This is often hard and challenging work; however, the rewards are immense. For some of you, this has happened in learning, others sport, public speaking, performing arts, student leadership and community service, to name but a few.

During the year we have certainly grown and had some great experiences such as developing our leadership skills through meeting and interacting with other schools and their leadership teams, attending and speaking at various ceremonies such as the ANZAC Day Dawn Service in Eltham and also working with other year levels in the Student Leadership Team.

We are both very grateful to each member of the Student Leadership Team who has always been very committed and brought many unique ideas to the table.

Leadership Reflections

Mrs Alison Leutchford Deputy Principal Student Wellbeing Throu gh our College theme this year "Let our Light Shine", stu dents have been encouraged to reflect on their own gifts and talents and look for ways that those talents can be used in the servi ce of others. It has been a p rivilege to journey with the stude nts as they explore their abilities . We challenge them to reach th2ir potential, to be all that t hey can be, and to value their unique qualities.

Student learning is inextricably linked to student social and emotional wellbeing and, as such, we make every effort to ensure our students are provided with a safe and supportive environment that promotes student wellbeing and their connectedness to school life.

I would like to acknowledge all staff for the care they have offered our students: in particular, the work of the Year Level Team Leaders, M rs Ruth Pendavingh, Ms Jessica Vassallo, Mrs Caterina Bartelink, M s Tulay Et, Mr Tony Regan and Mr Frank Salmic; the College Counsellors Mrs Anne Stringer and Ms Shaunagh Reidy and Head of Learning Differences Ms Laura Fa rchione. All have worked to ensure that students are known and supported within our community.

We place a strong emphasis on positive relationships, promoting resilience and helping our young women to

reflect on their own actions and work through conflict; it is gratifying work to see them grow in understanding and acceptance of others. In 20 15 we adopted a whole school approach to Carol Deck's Growth Mindset.

While this has encouraged a positive approach to learning, it has also complemented our work in wellbeing, in that a person with a growth mindset believes that relationships can grow, change and improve.

Thanks also to the Student Leadership Team, under the guidance of Ms Rebecca Ashworth and our College Captains, Ruby Martin and Ashlan Spiden, who have undertaken several initiatives that have entertained the student body and generated a sense of connectedness among the students.

Their efforts with fundraising have been impressive.

Social Justice and Environment Group, under the leadership of Rachel Bennett and Sophie Webb, w ho have most ce rtainly used their talents in the service of others. This group organised a silent protest to raise awareness for the plight of asylum se ekers, facilitated a bril liant " Be the Change" week and established a partnership with the SALT community in West Heidelberg.

Finally, I would like to thank all members of the College community. I look forward to continuing my work in partnership with teachers, students and parents in 2016 .

Mission Reflection

There are many things about our College and the community in it for which we ca n be grateful: the beautiful grounds, the happy feel that yo u often experience amongst any level of students, the lovely art on display, music to be heard, the vibrance of new learning, camaraderie and ca ring amongst the staff.

There are also gifts that have the especially us, shaped wisdom of our Founder, Mary Aikenhead. Because it spoke to her heart and spirit, she chose for her order to follow the spirituality of Saint Ignatius Loyola and my favourite element of that brings me joy every sing le day. Mary could very easily "find God in all things" and, learning and working alongside the Charity Sisters, that has become my quest too.

As I walk through each day at CLC, I find God everywhere I go, if I'm open to the Spirit. In 20 15, God has been in : the feeling of comm unity at the Opening Mass; t he exuberance of a student ru nning on a t readmill; in t he band music that touches hearts; io the sheer poetry of delicious the mathematics; "aha" moment of a concept finally grasped; the buzz of lunch4

time laughter; the generosity of our student leaders; the hard work of all our support staff; the cherishing of friends for each other; the feeling of solidarity with those marg inalised in the Social Justice, Mission and the groups; Reconciliation empathy and care shown by the counsellors; the lateral thinking in meetings of the College leaders; the special reflections at staff briefings and towards me personally, in the kindness of strangers.

Leadership Reflections my portfolio are finance and property. As CLC is a registered company, my finance role also includes the role of Company Secretary. This title carries a high level of accountability to a number of government agencies, together with members of the College Board.

In my first year at CLC, there have been a number of major building projects either completed or well underway.

Some of these include the redevelopment of our central courtyard which now provides disabled access to the lower courtyard, a softer green landscaped area for students.

There has been an emphasis on the use of timber to enhance and beautify the necessary hard surfaces which allow access for vehicles and maintenance work.

The use of timber has been replicated on the new decking primarily used by Year 7s who have access to this lovely space directly from their classrooms.

As part of our Masterplan, the extension to Currajeen, has started in Term 4 . When complete, our Senior students will have new seminar rooms, a common room and a large gathering space.

The landscaping of the Currajeen courtyards will also be developed along with some significant improvements to our signage.

The year commenced with a revamp of student goal setting. several considering After possibilities, the decision was made to implement Carol Mindset' 'Growth Dweck's approach. The work by Dweck has individuals focus on how they approach and view various aspects of their lives and work.

At CLC we asked students to question and analyse their approach to facing challenge, feedback, success of others, obstacles and effort. The aim is to help students view setbacks in these areas in a positive manner and as opportunities to learn and improve. Such an approach is having a Growth Mindset. As a result of their selected students analysis, one or two areas in which they wanted to develop a growth mindset and so set goals, or 'Action Plans' which they worked on throughout the year.

Students 1n Year 7 have undertaken a Study Skills and Learning Strategies Program this year. In each subject area they have concentrated on one skill or strategy to learn about and then apply to their work in

a ll subject areas. This integrated approach has been a successful one as students receive a consistent message about each skill/strategy they are exposed to a variety of skills/strategies and then they can apply the one or more of the ski lls/strategies that work the best for them.

This approach will continue to be built upon in Year 8.

As in previous years, the Year 8s enjoyed the City Experience Program. They did find visiting the city, navigating their way around and researching their scenario a challenge at times, but also a most rewarding one. This is evidenced by their enthusiasm to present a professional and informative presentation to their class, parents and guests at the City Experience Presentation

Evening. The critical and creative thinking skills learnt by the students and their obviou s growing independence and maturity are highlights of the City Experience Program.

I have enjoyed working with the students of Years 7 and 8 and look forward to continuing this re lationship with the Year 8s of 2016 and welcoming the 20 16 Year 7s. I wish the Year 8s every success as they continue their journey through seconda ry school.

Leadership Reflections

Ms Tina Wilkinson Yeat 9 and 10 Learning Leader My role as the Year 9-10 Learning Leader has given me the opportunity to look closely at the lea rning opportunities offered to the girls in Years 9 and 10, to work with staff teaching these levels, and to work with girls as full year level groups and in sma ller focus groups.

We began the year together

Mrs Christina Pascalis VCE Learning Leader It is again that time of year w hen we say goodbye to our Year 12 students as they prepare for their transition out of t he College and into the next part of their lives. This year has been very exciting and at the same time challenging fo r all our Year 12 students.

They have involved themselves

focusing on the concept of mindset. Dr Carol Dweck in her book Mindset: How you can fulfil your potential, refers to the difference between having a fixed and a growth mindset.

Girls completed a survey, which lead to spirited discussion and eventually developing an Action Plan to improve in one or more of the five areas: Effort, Challenge, Feedback, Success of Others and Obstacles. We also spoke about the power of changing your words - both in your own self talk and in your interaction with others, and how this came to help develop a growth mindset. A growth mindset will in turn empower you to achieve personal bests in your learning!

One area where this became a focus was in approaching Semester Exams. Year 9 were facing exams for the first time and Year 10 were focused on consolidating their approach to

in all aspects of the College's life and have also focused on their studies, completing the many SACs, SATs and practice exams required by their courses. During this year, the girls were able to experience many wonderful occasions, from the very glamorous Formal in February to the Final Assembly in October where the students are recognised for their academic achievements.

The year has been one of great friendship and joy as demonstrated by the laughter that emanated from the common room.

2015 has been an important year for the Year 11s. They too, have also participated in many exciting social events, especially the delightful evening of the Formal in July which was a very special event . The new venue

Other main focusses of my work this year has been the Year 9 Healesville Experience and IBP (Inquiry-based Project). For the Healesville experience I worked with the Science and Humanities KLA Team Leaders and for IBP collaborated with the IBP Team to bring learning experiences into the digital realm. The use of Google Apps for Education is opening many doors for collaboration and creativity in team work. The IBP encourages students to consolidate and extend the skills developed during City Experience in Year 8, such as creative and critical thinking, group work and problem solving. Groups worked independently to develop and carry out investigations under the broad umbrella of sustainability.

Over 2015 the senior students supported the College in many ways, demonstrating their commitment to the different areas of College life. By leading or participating in all sporting and cultural events, the senior students involved themselves in all activities and assisted the younger students when required. Involvement in the Production, Debating, Peer Support, Social Justice, Dance groups, Art Shows, and being Tour Guides are only some of the activities that the senior students have participated in over the year.

It has been a rewarding year working with the students and staff of Years 9 and 10 and I look forward to deepening and strengthening our work to support learning in 2016.

Year 7 Peer Support

Trained Year 10 Peer Support Leaders facilitate structured act1v1t1es with groups of eight Year 7 students. These students come from a variety of different homerooms and primary schools. The girls first meet their Peer Support Leaders on Orientation Day and then connect again with them at the beginning of Semester 1 for a series of six timetabled sessions of 40 minutes each.

The Peer Support Program at Catholi c Ladies' College aims to support and equip Year 7 students with skills to deal with the transition from primary to secondary school.

The program also promotes wellbeing, encourages positive relationships, connectedness and aims to provide the girls with an opportunity to learn life skills t hrough fun and safe activities. The prog ram has a resilience focus an d the skil ls of perseverance, optimism an d critical thinking are the core to each of the sessions. The Year 7 girls also have an opportunity to practise cooperation an d co llaboration skills and build confidence to actively participate in school life at Catholic Ladies' Co llege.

Another important aim of the Peer Support program is to develop leadership skills amongst a group of Year 10 students. As we know, many young people have the potential to become good leaders, but this potential needs to be

developed. In order to do this, the Year 10 leaders take part in a full day training program during which they participate in a range of activities focusing on effective leadership skills.

In their sessions with the Year 7s, the leaders are required to plan sessions, reflect on and utilise personal strengths, act as positive role models and support the transition of the members of their group into the life of the College.

The Peer Support program is an invaluable part of our Catholic Ladies' College transition program, one in which many memories are made. I wish to thank all the Year 10 leaders for the excellent work they have

done in preparing for th eir sessions and supporting t he Year 7s. I would also like t o w ish them all the very best in th eir future leadership roles.

Mrs Ruth Pendavingh Year 7 Team Leade r Beginning a new year in a new school, with all its promise and challenge, was the exciting p rospect for 140 girls, and for me, in February 2015. With th is year's College theme 'Let our Light Shine', it has been a won der to witness the shining of new lights of our Year 7s as they settle into thei r surroundings and start to share the gifts they bring to the community of CLC. Throughout the year, in their diffe rent ways, each student has adapted to the requirements of secondary school life, with its organisational, educational and socia l demands . Each has grown in understanding and 12

In April , in this year of the centenary of the ANZACs at Gallipoli, the Year 7 students participated together with many other schools in the district in a special community memorial service held at the Montmorency RSL. The girls ably represented CLC - listening respectfully to the readings and the Last Post, laying a wreath and enjoying a community lunch.

At the end of Term 1 our Year 7 Camp was held at Camp Manyung, Mt Eliza. Full of energy and enthusiasm, the girls quickly became adept at the intricacies of the helmet and the safety harness, necessary for High Ropes, Treetop Challenge and the Giant Swing. Further challenges included Persevering When it Rains, Finding My Stuff in the Cabin, and Being on Time for Dinner Duty! All these proved no hindrance to the enjoyment of three days away together, encouraging each other, developing self-reliance, building friendships and a sense of belonging.

In Term 2, Founder's Day presented opportunities for

making connections and having fun together. This was followed by the 'Tree of Life ' day, where students reflected on the ir personal qualities and the support systems around them which enable them to negotiate life's difficult times.

The Year 7 Eucharist in Term 3 enabled staff, students and some of their parents and grandparents to join in sharing the joy of community.

Celebrating, singing and praying together, with Fr Terry sharing his wisdom and kindness, the Year 7 students brought symbols of their varied gifts to 'Let their Light Shine' to the world.

Other highlights of the year came from embracing the cocurricular life of CLC with many Year 7s participating in House sporting teams and Interschool sporting competitions, joining activities including Cheerleading, Book Club, Tournament of Minds, Debating, Equestrian, Year 7 Band, Grace Notes choir, Social Justice Group, charity fund-raising and the school production of 'As You Like It'. Each of these required effort, organisation and commitment, with time spent in rehearsals and training, learning

and perfecting skills and getting to know new groups of students.

It has been inspiring to see so many girls bu ilding t heir o wn abilities and contribu ting to the spirit of our College .

The Year 7 students an d I w ere supported by an attentive and caring team of Homeroom teachers and I would like to thank Ms Amy Hampton , Ms Shaunagh Re id y, Mrs An Durham , Mrs Geraldi ne Sanderson, Mrs Ji ll Diedrich , Mrs Lorraine Connel l, Mr Wayne Simmonds and Miss Caroline Bailey for their unfailing good humour and tireless ded ication to the well-being of their students. Founder's Ball oons, hot food, colours, cool activities and the infamous gam e show; they all bring to m ind one thing, Founder's Day. Thi s year's Founder's Day was great, starting off in the morning with a big Assembly, where we all got badges and medallions in celebration of 200 years of the s;sters of Charity.

We then had activities. Being in Year 8, we were put into groups

with the Year 9s and went searching for teachers based on clues, 'Amazing Race' style.

Some of the clues were very challenging and required us to think hard about which teacher it could be. Despite that, it was good fun.

Then came hot food, eating pizza and drinking soft drink while discussing the day's adventures so far and the

hilarious game show to come; al l only on Founder's Day. We then gathered in the hall, decorated with bunches of helium balloons in our house colours, to wat ch the game show. This was definitely one of the best parts of the day. Highlights included the wonderful performance by ABBA, the challenges and the new house songs.

Ms Jessica Vassallo Year 8 Tea m Leader The Year 8 students of 2015 have enthusiastically " let their light shine" through a wide array of activities this year.

They have been willing to give many co-c urricular activities "a go " and have been strong supporters of our various fundraising efforts. They are to be com mended for the ways in which t hey have embraced being a p art of the wider

They have enjoyed many special programs and events including Medieval Day, a Brainstorm Productions performance, our very first Geography Fieldwork excursion, Real Talk presentation as part of Religious Education and a Masquerade Parade for Languages Week.

An integral part of the Year 8 program is City Experience.

The students enjoyed four days in the City exploring key landmarks, completing trails, gathering data and conducting interviews. They were given a scenario and a key question to answer. They used their iPads to help document their experiences via various apps and blogging tools. Upon their return to the College,

they worked hard with their group to plan and deliver an engaging presentation highlighting their findings and answer to their scenario.

The students enjoyed three wonderful days of warm weather at Lake Dewar Lodge for the annual Year 8 Camp.

They challenged themselves to complete a series of outdoor activities ranging from Adventure Tunnelling to a Gorge bushwalk. A great time was had by all and many firm friendships were formed during our time away.

I would like to thank the Homeroom teachers who have guided the Year 8s during this year and my best wishes are extended to the Year 8 cohort of 2015 as they continue their journey here at Catholic Ladies' College. You are a wonderful group of young women who are kind of heart and rich in spirit.

Thank you to the many students who put themselves forward for Leadership positions. The students who have been Homeroom Representatives, SLT Representatives and House Captains have found the experience very rewarding.

Pharaoh, the novel by Jackie French, teaches us that over the course of our lives, we are many people. Narmer was a prince, a cripple, a tr ader, a Sumerian and a Pharaoh. And that's okay, every one changes, as long as you don't forget the person you used to be. The book also shows that your identity is made up of many different things. Sometimes these things can change, willingly or forcefully, and the shape of your unique mould changes too. Whilst you may share some of these traits with others, the combination is unique to you and you alone, like DNA. Sometimes when you lose or change a big part of your identity, you can feel insecure or unsure of what it means t o be you anymore. This is evident in the novel when Narmer loses his leg and therefore his heirship. He becomes lost, because that was such a big part of him, like if an athlete lost a limb or a singer lost his voice. Through Pharaoh, we learn much of what it means to be human and to belong.

Emma Filardo and Chloe Dillon 7 A Have you ever wanted to go back into the past?

Well for the Year 9s this became a reality with the eye opening, interactive trip to Sovereign Hill. This little town set in the mid 1850's is created to resemble a Victorian gold mining town you would expect to see during the time period. From the miniature Chinese temple to the vintage dated shops, you really get the feeling you've gone into the past.

It was a very educational field trip as well which definitely helped prepa re the Year 9s for their test on the Victorian gold mining era. That's not to say there was no fun involved . During breaks throughout the day, students could shop at the mini stores lining the town, make candles, eat decaden t food from the bakery or even watch the process behind making Sovereig n Hill hard candy which they are so famous for.

Overall it was a very educational and interactive trip to the gold rush era that gave us an experience we won't be forgetting anytime soon.

To me the world is better off Without all this complex machinery Sure it can be useful For example when I'm writing this song But I can grab a pen and paper and nothing will be wrong.

The Performing Arts area has had an extremely busy year in 20 15 with all gi rls rehearsing and practicing thoroughly throughout the year to achieve a well-earned sen se of development as a performer.

Performing Arts have been a part of many events in and outside of school this year.

The Music Tour in June saw a group of 40 music student's trave l to Queensland with the music staff; this tour w as organised by the Certificate Four Music class and staff. The tour was a major success with girls playing in venues such as Dreamworld, Surfers Paradise Mall, Broadbeach Mall and two primary schools. This tour offered insight for the girls to see how to operate bands in the music industry and was definitely a learning experi~nce for all.

The CLC production also gave girls the opportunity to take part in the play "As you like it" by William Shakespeare, a story about different kinds of love but with a modern element incorporated . The production allowed students from across all year levels to demonstrate their talents on and off stage, dancing, singing and acting as well as lighting, backstage, costume, gymnastics and musical performance.

Every girl worked extremely hard and their efforts most definitely paid off, as the production was a huge success and demonstrated just how talented C LC girls can be.

Everything that the Performing Arts area achieved this year would be nothing without the great staff that go above and beyond to ensure these events are to the highest standard, special thanks to Mr Fred Leduc, Ms Lynette Molloy and Mrs Mathewson, not to mention all other staff, especially the maintenance staff, that ensured these events ran smoothly and were the best possible!

Music Music the language of the universe, a door way to creativity, an exploration of the potential in one's soul. This definition is what we believe in the Music area and we encourage the art and passion for music to our students and extended community of Catholic Ladies' College.

We have had a massive 20 15 with numerous musical performa nces within the college, externally and in collaboration with many other organisations to create memorable events. Some of these eve nts were the Music Tour to Q ueensland, Anzac Day performance for the Greensborough RSL, Music Camp and Music Nights, Ensemble Showcase Nights featuring flutes, saxophone and voice, char ity events for Africa and the Concert Ba nd trip to the Wangaratta Bands Festival . All these are just a small sample of more than 40 events this year outside normal music classes .

The students never cease to amaze us with the talents they develop and their willingness to share these talents with the whole College community.

True, authentic experiences are what we hope the students gain from walking alongside thei r music teachers on a musical pathway. The diversity within the e nsembles is an area we are striving to develop, creating acts and artists ranging from classical music, rock, funk, so ul

and jazz just to name a few. Music at CLC is a place for students to take their personal passion of music in any direction they dream. Excit ing t imes are always on the Horizon.

This year the Dance Club, led by Stephanie Brock, was outstanding.

Bringing their extensive knowledge, our core team, Steph, Jess Donaldson, Chantelle and Brooke Scrivano, and Harley-Rose Platania, organised and ran rehearsals and choreographed a beautiful range of dances for the production.

Our actors also rose to the challenge tackling Shakespeare with relish and creating strong engaging characters.

The students enjoyed the opportunity to get to know girls from all year levels and see the unique skills of so many, from the quiet back stage efficiency of Briahna Certoma to the exquisite characterisation and performance of Ella Zentgraf as Jacques. Reflection Ms Caterina Bartelink Year 9 Team Leader The start of any year brings with it hope, expectation and challenges and this year was to be no exception for this year's 203 Year 9 students.

CLC has provided students with many opportunities to extend themselves and be engaged both in and out of the cl assroom, to deve lop individual leadership skills, to explore theatrical and musical capabilities, sporting prowess and academic excellence.

In early February, one could sense the anticipation and excitement as the studen ts eagerly made their way to classrooms where t hey were met by their Homeroom teachers: 9A Ms Tina Wilkinson, 9B Mr Eoghan O'Sullivan . 9C Ms Josie Loughman, 9D Ms Jade Charamboulos, 9E Mr Damian Brasier, 9F Mr Bradley Slater, 9G Ms Rebecca Ashworth and 9H Dr Dawn Duncan. Thank you to these colleagues who have done a tremendous job and devoted their time and energy to ensure the well-being of students in their homeroom. Their support and camaraderie is much appreciated.

Homeroom Representatives were soon elected and the students who were entrusted with the responsibility of leadership roles were: Briahna Certoma, Kate De Bamford, Catherine Fairlie, Georgia Smith, Kyra Athanitis, Erin Judkins, Eliza Clarke and Jasleen Kaur. We were also ably represented as a Year Level by our two SLT leaders Ruby Lam and Lily McCarthy. Our House Captains also made an impression : Matilda Blakey, Maddison Bowne, Kate McCarthy and Lara Vitez.

These students are to be commended for their efforts throughout the year. It has been a real pleasure working with these delightful ladies.

The Year 9 program offers a balance of active learning and excitement wit h traditional academic style learning. It also offers challenging and thought-provoking activities and assessment tasks, creative use of technology, co-curricular opportunities and excursions. It has been very rewarding for me personally to represent Year 9 students this year.

Thank you Year 9 for being a great group of individuals. You have been a pleasure to work with and I hope you can look back o n t he year with happy memories. I hope that exposure to life at CLC has given you the courage, the self- belief and the confidence to stand up and say and do, what must be said and done. Religious Education Gospel values and messa ges of Jesus studying the Parables.

Learning about Jesus' life as a Jew, how the Church was established by St Paul and Christian persecution in the 1st Century.

Year 7 students began their CLC journey developing a sense of community and belonging, learning about our founder, Mary A ikenhead .

Students were also introduced to and explored characters of the Old Testament. Focus on the importance and significance of prayers, ritua ls and symbols used in the celebration of the Eucharist culminated in a very special year level Mass.

The Year 8 stu dents explored creation stories from our own an d many other tra ditions and cultures. The key message being that we are entrusted with the care and stewardship of o ur precious planet and its pe ople. Stud ents learnt about

'Me, myself and Selfie', an introduction to sexuality, allowed the students to ponder on their own selfworth, dignity, body image, pos1t1ve friendships, family and community morals and values that they draw on to make good decisions in their lives. The Year 8 mission focus enabled students to learn about communities and outreach opportunities beyond CLC. Year 9 RE has a strong focus on Social Justice and service to others. Students also enjoyed the unit on Conscience and Decision Making, thinking about what morals and values they draw on and how they are developing these as they approach adulthood.

Year 10 students investigated the nature of religion and how it is expressed in various ways in different societies, analysing religion as a phenomenon in human culture and life expe rience. A highlight was a presentation by young people

of different fa iths and beliefs.

Year 10 is also a t ime for students to foc us o n Christian o utreach and service to others. Students reflect on their Community Service placements and understanding the importance of the experience. The Year 10 Mass was a celebration of all the good things that Year 10 students have done for others throughout the year.

In VCE Un it 2 Religion and Society - Ethics and Morality, students learnt the nature of ethics and explored their decision making.

They experienced an interactive drama performance on issues associated with homelessness.

The last un it's focus was on asylum seekers and refugees with the students experiencing a presentation by asylum see kers. The Year 11 Reflection Day included a visit to the Jewish Holocaust centre.

Year 12 RE was an opportuni ty for some time out from demands of VCE and for reflect ion on life.

Students enjoyed relaxation time in the RE centre and participated in small group discussions on personal growth activities. A highlight of Year 12 was t he retreat w here studen ts had a chance

to celebrate the sacredness of their lives within their fam ili es and their friendships. M any students found this time an excellent opportunity to ma ke new friends and create deepe r bonds.

Reconciliation Group

Mrs Lynn Mason Reconcili ation Coordinato r

Reconciliation at CLC is about developing a better understanding of Australia's first peoples, their culture and achievements and the contributions that they make to our country and society. Our dedicated group of students embody these ideals and work to create positive change by highlighting real issues with innovative ideas and actions.

The Nillumbik Council Reconciliation Week Flag Raising Ceremony commenced our Reconciliation Week. At CLC we

celebrated with a sausage sizzle fundraiser for The Opening the Doors Foundation that assisted 724 Victorian Aboriginal students by providing funding for extra education costs. A nest was also created for Aboriginal creator spirit, Bunjil the eagle, by the CLC community writing reconciliation messages on Eucalypt sticks which were then used to form a large, collaborative sculptural nest which symbolises Reconciliation.

Proud Race Project bollards representi ng aboriginal women who have made a significant contribution to their people A commissioning ceremony was held as the bollards were installed under the Aborigin al Flag Pole. A focus of this year has been the rallies for "Stop the Forced Closu re of Remote Aboriginal Communities ". As rallies were held around the world , we at CLC held our own rallies to highlight a controversial government decision to close remote communities and the lack of media coverage of this decision.

As always, we bega n t he year by welcoming our new Year 7 students into their respective school houses: Aitkenhead, Loyola, Marita and Vincentia.

Each student received a pe rsonal letter from their Year 12 "buddy" welcom•ng them to their House and the College, as well as receivi ng an explanation on the unique history of their House.

Both ou r Swimming and Athletics Carnivals were outstanding successes. The "day at the beach th eme" for our Swimming Carnival at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre ensured we had some great costumes that we re a ppropriate for the day's activities, and we certainly had some ve ry funny and creative "characters" present at our Athletics Carnival too. It was great to see students not only get into perfecting their costumes, but many students competed in a wi de variety of activities at each carnival - making for a competitive and fun atmosphere on each day. Congratulations

to Loyola House for winning both t he House Athletics and House Swimming this year. Great Achievements!

During June, we celebrated Founder's Day with a wide variety of activities an d games in the hall. Students contributed some fantastic performances during our "80's fluoro festival" theme.

Performances from our Year 12 students made the day extra special; of particular note, the lip-synch battle on stage showed the depth of talent we have at the school.

Students also had t he opportunity to take on the teachers during a variety of staff versus st udent sporting challenges for the year. Notably, we he ld netball, vol leyball and softball com petitions that all ended up with very close scores. The year also saw t he introduction of a fa ntastic Treadmill Challenge, whic h was courageously won by Marita.

A great deal of time and effort goes into organising the house events here at CLC so it is fantastic to see so many girls get involved and make the most of them. Participation was at a high this year, and the enthusiasm of all students made the organisation easier and days more enjoyable.

A special thank you to Sarah Loncarevic and Isabella Votsis (Year 12 students) who wrote and produced our new House songs this year. To the House Captains, thank you all for your hard work, support and commitment to your roles.

Ms Tulay Et Year 10 Team Leader During Activities Week the Year 10 students we.re involved in Commu nity Service. Students assisted the local community in areas of Aged Care, Different Abilities, Animal Care, Environmental and Welfare o rganisations. The Year 10 students show ed incredible maturity and humility in helping

members of our community.

The Community Service was followed with a Reflection Day and Liturgy on 23 March.

Students were involved in art workshops and shared discussions to assist in their reflections of the week.

Ms Tulay Et Year 10 Team Leader My Community Service placement was at Concord Secondary School. I worked with children aged 9 to 11 for one week helping and observing.

What I learnt definitely surprised me. The children who couldn't co mplete simple tasks li ke co unting to ten or saying the

alphabet had such a positive outlook on life. Everyone was completely different but they were all still such happy children.

My Community Service week not only gave me a different perspective on my life, but a new found respect and admiration for the children at Concord, their teachers and their families.

Jennifer Holmes (1 OF) My time at Regis Heathcliff Manor, an Aged Care centre, was most enjoyable. I talked to many of the residents about their life and they greatly appreciated the company.

I assisted in setting up and ru nning activities, played board games wi th the residents, ran

carpet bowling, participated in exercises and took p art in a rosary. I enjoyed watching the residents as they sang, danced and laughed. When I first arrived, I spoke to a man with dementia. He repeated the same questions. It was confronting at first . I believe Community Service was an experience that taught me a lot about myself and how we care for others.

Year 10 Reflection

Ms Tulay Et Year 10 Team Leader

Year 10 is a year filled with many exciting opportunities.

The students are at a transitional phase in their journey as they embark on senior studies and await new adventures. This year, the girls were eager in choosing their subject selections for their future pathway in VCE or VCAL, with the excitement continuing with the fittings for their VCE/ VCAL jumpers.

Year 10 is filled with many opportunities for growth.

For ma ny, students prepare for their Learner Driver's License.

The VIC Roads Keys Please Program provides the younger generation a · foundation to staying alert and safe on our roads. These opportunities are onl y th e beginning of these girls be coming educated, young women of the future.

For me personally, the most inspiring of opportunities this year at Year 10 was the

Community Service Program where students truly do excel in making a difference to the wider community.

The girls commit to providing a service in areas of aged care, welfare, disability, animal care and other community services. To receive the incredible feedback I have had from these organisations this year makes my role all the more rewarding.

These girls are certainly on the right track for a brighter future. May we continue to foster and revitalise the wonderful traits of these young women so that they may continue to achieve their absolute potential.

Ms Tulay Et Year 10 Team Leader Year 10 is a great, exciting year but can sometimes be a little stressful, as it is the beginning of your future. Year 10 is the year you start thinking about

what you would like to do when you are older and you need to choose your subjects, as the path to get you there. There were many programs in place to help us with these decisions which are extremely effective and useful when making our decisions .

Another program that Year 1Os were involved in this year was Community Service, where we were all placed in different locations to give back to the community and learn more about what we can actually do and how we can help others. At times it was confronting being put into situations that were new to us and discovering what to do, but the experience was rewarding.

The St Pius X Primary School reading program was another program which some Year 1Os participated in, where we assisted younger students in the

reading program by helping kids learn to read. Other Year 10 students were involved in the Year 7 /10 Peer Support Program where they assist Year 7 students with their transition into secondary school. Language trips to Italy and Indonesia were also available to language students and were thoroughly enjoyed. As a Year level, we held many cake stalls, even a sausage sizzle and raised money for various charities and communities, such as Kenya and the Indigenous Immersion . Year 10 is a very enjoyable year where there is a lot of opportunity to get involved.

A d'3y in the life of a wo fo w; hout technology I woke up lazily today. It's a Sunday, so it doesn't really matter, but not much matters nowadays. It's not like we're doing much 1n school without our iPads and wifi, and whenever it's cold it's ridiculously freezing in the rooms anyway. Half the time teachers just give us books to read, and things to copy down. Kind of like the old days I guess. Only in the old days, they didn't know what 1t was like with wifi, and heaters and lights. After I got up, Mum made me go get some firewood. It took ages, because now that everyone needs it, firewood's harder to find. After I got home we had a breakfast of toast and eggs, but it all tasted sort of smoky? Probably because we cooked it over the fire, but it still tastes pretty good.

Today it had been exactly one month since we lost power. Since all the electricity zapped out, and pretty much all technology stopped working. We can't use cars because the traffic lights don't work. All gas has to be saved for emergencies, so there goes all the stoves, and heaters and pretty much everything else. About three weeks ago, people from the government came around to everv house and collected whatever gas or spare batteries that they might need. Most people still have some batteries left, but if you try to use any of our technology it goes all fuzzy and weird and dies. I have no clue what's going on. There's theory's going around Aliens, the government, other country's try take over, God punishing us, all the usual ones. But kids at school are saying other things.

I overheard a conversation with this guy whose dad works for the police, and apparently they think the technology's overloaded.

It's just gone. Poof. Ahh I miss it so much I it's sort of better though, because now you can't make plans by messaging people, so everyone's going out a lot more. You can walk around town and see tons of kid just hanging out and chatting . It's weird I guess, that we didn't use to do that. It's nicer and easier to make friends with people.

That being said though, I still miss technology like crazy! Today mum made me sweep the house. Really sweep it with a broom and shake out the rugs. God, you wouldn't believe how much I miss vacuum cleaners. On the other upside though, I think everyone's a lot healthier now. Lots of people go for runs and walks because there isn't anything better to do. Everyone's asleep by about nine, because once it's dark the only light is candles and fires. It's weird I guess. Everything that's happening - it's like humanity has taken a giant step backwards. Seriously, I feel like we're living in the Middle Ages only, most people are smarter and live a bit better. Really it makes me wonder... was this meant to happen? Maybe our planet was so overrun with technology we were becoming les~ than human. Maybe, we were meant to come back to living like this. Like humans.

20 15 has seen a number of exciting new things happening in th e Maths Department.

Our team of passionate and dedicated teachers have contin ued to work together constantly striving to find new ways to develop and deliver our Maths lessons.

This year, o ur focus has been on he lping our students develop Mathem atical Literacy. Maths is not just a bout numbers; there is lots of language involved.

For many of our students the challe nge with Mathematics does not come from using Mathe matical processes but from un derstanding what some questions are asking. We have set out this year to introduce a specific strategy that we can all teach our students to use so that they may approach problems in a different way. We have only just begun with this and have alrea dy had success. We feel it is im portant for the students to kn ow it's OK not to know an il nswer straight away. This strategy has given them a way

to tackle problems they may have previously not understood.

We are excited about where this may lead us in the future.

This year we have introduced Advanced Maths and the Maths elective, Outside the Square, at Year 9 with much success as you can see from the student reflections below.

We have seen some great in students from suc cess English classes from Years 7-12 in 2015. For many of our Year 7s the first formal essays have It can be b een constructed. w onderful to begin teaching a skill to our junior students t hat they will continue to d evelop and master across education. secondary their Ou r Year 7 Team have enjoyed the chance to introduce the

possibilities of analytical writing to our younger students. At Year 8, many of our students have enjoyed the fantasy world of award winning author David Almond's Skellig, a short novel that is both intriguing and philosophical in nature. Some of our Year 8s had the chance to meet David Almond's colleague Lucy Christopher at our Writers' Festival, an exciting connection to the author of their set text.

Our Year 9s this year have been fascinated by the issues and ideas presented in their comparative unit on Australian Boori Pryor's Maybe texts.

Tomorrow has been a thought study to text provoking alongside a range of different texts such as John Pilger's Utopia, Oodgeroo's poetry and some popular films. The Year 9s have had the chance to explore in depth the issues faced by the Aboriginal Australian community and even had the chance to discuss some of

these things on their Healesville trip. It's wonderful to see the connections made with texts beyond the classroom.

Our Year 1Os and 11 s have succeeded in the challenges presented by Shakespeare in both Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth. Whilst overcoming the language hurdle can be gruelling, it's wonderful to see our students grapple with enduring themes of love, hate, power, gender and fate. Our students had the opportunity in August to watch a live performance of these classic plays here at school with the Theatre Works Complete Company.

Growing the Mindset for Languages 2015 has been a busy and successful year for languages at CLC. Mindset has been one of the key themes that many teachers and students have been focusing on across the school this year. The idea of having a fixed mindset versus a growth mindset is something that is very relevant

to language learning as many students find learning a second language challenging and have fixed ideas about their ability in the language classroom and what they are capable of achieving. Our goal at CLC for each language student is to develop a growth mindset when learning a language: to see mistakes as an opportunity to learn, to choose challenging tasks when given a choice, to practice new skills and work hard, even when things get very difficult and to view others' success and knowledge as inspiring.

Learning a second language can be hard at times as it can take you out of your comfort zone; however it can also be incredibly rewarding and if you believe in yourself and focus on maintaining a growth mindset through your learning, you will be able to achieve amazing things in your language studies.

Language Perfect is a huge component of our languages program at CLC, with our students answering hundreds of questions on their vocabulary and grammar each day. During the Language Perfect World Championships towards the end of May, CLC was able to achieve a world ranking of 83, an Australian ranking of 59 and an amazing ranking of 20 in Victoria.

Hopefully we can achieve an even greater result next year!

Having the opportunity to travel to the country of the language that you are learning and immerse yourself in that language and culture is an incredible experience and opportunity. Groups of Year 10 and Year 11 students travelled to Italy and also Indonesia, spending time touring around the countries, speaking the language, getting to know the culture, staying with host families and visiting their sister

schools. This experience wou1d have been both challenging and rewarding for our students but one that they will never forget.

This year there have been a variety of events, excursions and incursions throughout all of the year levels which are an important part of language learning also. These of course would not be possible without the effort and hard work of the Languages Team and the participation and energy of our students. Many thanks to my supportive colleagues and I look forward to another exciting year in 2016!

H urnanities Humanities is the study of human society and the ways in which people organise their worlds in the past, in the present and how it might look in the future . We examine the key questions of where, how and why.

We aim to provide our students with an engaging, challenging and enriching curriculum, through our in-classroom and out of classroom experiences. We look at t f"> e way people organise their lives and make decisions in time and in place. It is about us.

Humanities provides a forum where the m ost difficult problems facing human lives can be examined. Humanities helps people become well rounded - being able to understand themselves and the world in which they live. Humanities develops universal skills that are applicable to the f ull range of occupations and are in great demand by employers. Humanities teaches people to have: • knowledge about the world •flexibility of thought • the ability to work in teams, co-operatively • the ability to interpret, analyse and synthesise data • the thinking skills to contribute to the

identification, prediction, analysis and solving of problems • the ability to present information using JCT skills

Speakers and performers have visited the College to provide stimulating and thought provoking lessons to our students in the following areas:

In 2015 the students have been provided with a wealth of educational experiences.

Year 8 • Medieval Day

For the Core Years, these experiences have included excursions to;

Year 9 • Centenary of Gallipoli • WW1 presentation

• The Art Gallery and a local environmental park (Year 7) • Organ Pipes National Park and Lerderderg State Park (Year 8)

Year 10 • Rights and Freedoms presentation • Vietnam Veterans presentation

• Sovereign Hill and the Yarra Valley (Year 9)

We aim to provide the girls of CLC with a Humanities curriculum that is interesting, exciting at times and one that is full of variety and different ways of learning.

• Mornington Peninsula, the Shrine of Remembrance, the Immigration Museum and the Magistrates Court (Year 10).

So in 2015 we have achieved just that.

At the VCE level the students have visited; • The Otway Ranges National Park, Docklands, Echuca, Cape Woolamai (Geography), the Loddon Prison (Legal Studies) and the State Library (History).

Physical Education, Health and Hu man Developme nt This year has seen the fitness march on at Catholic Ladies' College. Fitness testing across year levels expanded in 2015 demonstrating the progress of students. Excellence with Cardiovascular Health was displayed on an honour board in the gym for all Years 7-10 classes.

Junior acrobatics coaches were utilised this year in gymnastics units within the existing program with some great developments.

The expansion of courses with new units included Australian Community Health issues at Year 8 Health which we read about all too frequentl y in th e media. It's g reat t o know our students are d eveloping the ir key knowledge w ith a broad range of topics. and dance Self-defence continues to evolve within our programs with specialist inst ructors complementing the fine work students completed in developing sporting specific skills and knowledge .

Use of mu ltimedia at all leve ls, has gone ahead in leaps and b ounds with amazing production and creativity within health projects, particularly with movie making. This has extended right across from Year 7 Smoking Education presentations to Drug Education projects.

Students have expressed interest in the human movement field. There is a new elective offering aligned with sports science and coaching at Year 10 2016.

Virtual Robot Baby has been purchased and used by students to complement the Neonatal study unit. This, as well as a visit to the Mercy hospital for both Year 11 Health and Human Development classes, meant some eye opening experiences.

This was particularly apt when the students were shown a fresh placenta by the midwife!

At VCE an additional Real Care

PE w eek activities were run by

senior students in VCE PE and demonstrated great leadership and teamwork. Junior students had a wide range of options and enjoyable experiences on offer.

One of M ia's greatest contributions in 2015 has been her Coordination of the Social Justice and Environment Group together with Mr Eoghan O'Su llivan. Mia has a real passion for helping others and demonstrated sincere compassion in all that she did in working with this group. We know that this personal attribute will stay with Mia wherever her path takes her. We wish her all the best for her upcoming wedding in 2016.

Staff Celebrations and Farewells In the teaching profession and its associated roles, it is a privilege to work with and for a principal who is equally gifted with people skills and educational theory. Those who are fortunate to be part of the CLC staff community know that we have enjoyed that experience while working under the guidance of Margaret McKenna. Successive Leadership Teams have also found in her someone who challenges imaginatively, strives for excel lence and has a capacity for extremely hard work, despite having faced several challenges of her own .

Equally, the students have been blessed with someone they can not only look up to, but also be inspired by, listened to and understood. Frequently we hear from ex-students that they often found in Margaret a leader with whom they could experience empathy, laughter and trust. Many parents have expressed appreciation for her generous and intuitive ways of listening to the 'story' of themselves and their daughters, sensing in Margaret real understanding and compassion. Similarly, staff members from all areas know her to be an open-minded person who often found imaginative and flexible ways to give help when it was needed.

To paraphrase our Mission Statement, which Margaret genuinely embodies, she is a person who can creatively transform her various worlds and does so with a fullness of mind and heart. The CLC community is deeply grateful for her unique leadership and wishes her happiness and success in the future.

Mrs Lyn Hosking commenced at CLC in 1986. In th is time she has been the voice and face that has helped three generations of students and parents, always smiling, helpful and compassionate whilst demonstrating a love for the Sisters, students and staff.

Over the years Lyn has been Receptionist, First Aider, Student Report Coordinator, Attendance Officer and more recently been passionately involved with Alumni administration. Consistently she has bee n responsible for student records with absolute accuracy. Lyn has supported our last three Principals, beginning with Sr Patricia Nunan rsc, then Patricia Ryan and now Margaret McKenna.

Lyn has been a part of many changes in the College administration over the last three decades and her efficiency and effectiveness have contributed significantly. Lyn is respected and loved by all, is admi red as the quiet achiever in our team, with many connections to the community and beyond. We wish her and her husband Brian, a happy and fulfilling retirement.

College Registrar, Mrs Helen Cattapan, retired in June. Her daughter Belinda (Co llege Captain 1999) commenced CLC in 1994 and since that time Helen was involved in various aspects of Colle ge life. She coordinated Community Service, worked as an Aide for Student Services and Performing Arts Secretary, and contributed to College Productions through costuming. In her role as Registrar, Helen's frien dly manner, professional approach and vast knowledge served her well as the first point of contact for m any families. Helen has been an excellent representative of our community and will be missed by all. We w ish Helen well in this next phase of her life.

Mrs Susan Maher has been associated with CLC since 1997 both as a teacher and as a parent. Susan's greatest interest was in Mathematics and Science and we have greatly appreciated Susan's efforts and contributions to the education of so many young scientists and mathematicians.

Susan's role, as Head of Year 8 for five years, saw her manage each cohort with her typical calm approach and she made her Homeroom teachers feel appreciated and supported. She also had much to do w ith the early development of the City Experience program. Susan was also on a number of committees, working to bring about positive change in learning and pastoral matters.

While students can count themselves lucky to have had Susan teach them, equally her colleagues will remember her for her enthusiasm, hard-working nature and subtle sense of fun. We all wish Susan the very best for her future endeavours.

CLO Parents' Association

This is my first year as President of the Parents' Association (PA) and I would like to personally express my gratitude to all members of the committee who have given so freely of their time to the PA this year.

At the commencement of the year, all Year 7 and 8 parents were invited to the first PA meeting in March. There were many new parents who joined the PA. Currently there are 18 members with daughters across all year levels. Any parent who wishes to join at any stage of the year is most welcome. Being a part of the PA is not all about fundraising; it is a wonderful opportunity to meet new parents, make new connections and feel a part of the CLC community.

There are four wonderful community-minded Year 12 parents who are leaving the association - they are Mrs Amanda Webb, Mrs Madeleine Campbell, Mrs Anna Maio and Mrs Rose Mossuto. Each has 82

passionately contributed to the spirit of CLC community, whether it be through leadership roles within in the PA, exceptional organization of social and fundraising events, detailed accounting skills or thorough minute taking at the PA meetings. These are just of the few contributions each has brought to the PA. Thank you and best wishes for the future.

Some of the PA social functions this year have been exceptionally well supported by the College Community.

The year commenced with the annual Year 7 Welcome BBQ, a very popular evening with staff, PA members, students and their families enjoying a relaxed introduction to College life.

An outstanding success was the Mother and Daughter walk and morning tea which was enthusiastically attended by 160 members of the College community. This event raised a fabulous amount of $1,500 for women from our sister school,

the Br Beausang School, Em Bui-Bui which is in Kenya , Africa.

The annual High Tea for our Year 12 girls and their mothers/ significant women was a fabulous opportunity to relax, connect and reflect on the past six years of friendships and achievements at CLC. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of Ballara Receptions whilst chatting over lovely cups of tea, delicious food and the amazing lolly buffet.

The support of College parents, through the College barbeques, second hand uniform sales and the annual school fees raffle, continued to provide the necessary funds to contribute to the College Master Plan. This year the PA were pleased to hand to the College $30,000.

These funds will be put towards new LED signage at the front of the College, anticipated for completion in February 2016.

This included a dedicated team of students involved in behind the scenes production, prop and set painting, costumes, lighting and publicity.

Year 7 Visual Arts saw our students develop their understanding of the design elements, create magnificent painted cushions and ceramic sculptures.

Year 8s took inspiration from around the College producing hand embroidered silk paintings and the Year 9 paintings captured the concept of movement in Art and also developed their photographic and Photoshop skills in Photography.

Many exciting materials and techniques were introduced to the Year 10 students, resulting in an interesting array of scu.lptures and self-portraits in Art and packaging designs in Visual Communication. The Year 11 Art program provided students with the opportunity to follow their own artistic ideas resulting in a diverse range

of art w orks from painting, sculpture and photography.

With the help of Visual Art Captain, Claire Ryan, the Year 7 Art Club was run every fortnight where students could further develop their artistic abilities and the whole school participated in the creation of a beautiful heart canvas to celebrate International Women's Day. Our Arts students participated in t he NAIDOC week exhibition held at St Francis church in the city and also exhibited art in the Catholic Education Week Exhibition, the Whittlesea Show, the Nillumbik Creative Minds Exhibition and TOP Designs - Season of Excellence.

2015 brought about another fantastic school Athlet ics Carn iva l.

For the Year 7s, it was their first of many and for the Ye ar 12s, it was their final chance to dress up and cheer on their houses.

M emories were made and the CLC spirit came alive. Th is ye ar's theme was "characters" which resulted in a range of different and very creative costumes from M ario Kart to the Smu rfs.

However, nothing could top our best dressed which we re those girls dressed as trophies. All of the girls who competed in t he events and dressed up should be commended for the ir effort s and the sportsmanship that they showed on the day. Even though Loyola took out the win, all houses competed t o thei r best, making the day have a competitive sporting environment.

T his year's Swimming Carnival with the theme 'The day at the beach' lead many en t husiastic competitors enter into the swimming spirit by competing for their houses. Taking on the carnival theme, the girls displayed creative and uniq ue costumes, such as ice creams, hippies in kombi vans, sh arks, sailors and flip flops . All houses competed to the best of their ability providing a competitive sporting atmosphere . However, Loyola yet again took out the win.

Along with the huge amount of sport and interschool sport stu d ents participated in this year, the Athletics and Swi mming Carnivals showed sportsmanship among all the year leve ls.

There will be many memories to be looked back upon.

Year 11 Reflection

I would like to congratulate th e 135 girls who have enthusiastically and consistently given their best throughout the ye ar and were involved in all aspects of College life, both in and out of the classroom . The girls have experienced a wide range of opportunities this year including : Work Experience , lnterschool Sporting Competitions, Athletics and Swimming Carnivals, House Activities, Founder's Day, Performing Arts Night, num erous excursions, Choir, Producti on, Cake Stall, Bands, Leadership Positions and the "Night of Nights" - the Year 11 Formal. All these activities have contributed to the girls' development and have been

aspects of a wonderful journey towards their final year of education.

I thank our Year 11 class captains: Maggie M cCarthy, Madalyn Wachinger, Olivia Tieri, Kasia Silva, Chloe Boffa and Stephanie Brock who have demonstrated leadership qualities in a positive and productive manner.

I particularly thank Olivia Daffy and Shae Kirby for their outstanding contribution as Year Level Leaders . The Year 11 staff and students were blessed to have such committed and hard working representatives .

The Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) has continued to be a successful option for senior students at Catholic Ladies' College. This year, 16 students participated in an active and diverse range of stud ies based on applied or p racti cal learning, enabling each stud ent t o pursue her individual path way towards further training and future emplOyment.

Thre e levels of VCAL were undertaken at C LC this year, w ith e leven studen t s in Year 11 comp leti ng either Foundation or Intermediate level and five students in Year 12 achieving the Senior Certificate.

• Mathematical calculations to design and construct wooden cubby and doll houses.

• The enlargement of a Barbie doll to life size using exact measurements.

• Attending the sand sculptures in Frankston as a result of choosing, planning and carrying out an excursion to attend an exhibition.

Most students enhanced their employability by completing a work placement once a week, while severa l of them also added to their qualifications by attending courses off campus .

This makes the sense of the 'end' become very real. This is both exciting for the Year 12s and it is also a bit daunting.

Each year, at the very first Year 12 assembly, the fresh faced and e xcited new Year 12 students a re invited to take every o pportunity to enjoy all aspects of the journey that is their last year as a student member of the CLC community. They are reminded that the year will pass in the blink of an eye. The students may understand the message but, in the first week of February, the year seems

The year began with the Swimming Carnival and, 1n the tradition of CLC, the Year 12s entered into the spirit with some of the most creative and colourful themed costumes ever seen. It was a fantastic sight to see and was a symbolic rep resentation of their appreciation and pride in belonging to the college community.

February quickly moved to the Year 12 Formal and, as usual, there was the wonderful sense of sharing a special occasion with friends and classmates. As the photos were displayed on the Year 12 notice board there

was considerable excitement over the memories captured 1n the shots.

The Year 12 Retreat in March afforded the Year 12s a time and a place to reflect, share a nd experience moments of stillness and spirituality. Again, there was a mixture of fun but tinged with the inevitable recognition that this was another 'last time' event. marks the 200th 2015 anniversary of the founding of the Sisters of Charity. The students know that while they are forever part of CLC, and forever connected to the Sisters of Charity, it is now time to enter that new and exciting stage of life's relentless journey.

My wish and prayer for each young woman is that they hold dear the values and charism that has been part of their everyday at CLC. May they always nourish their spirit, listen to their heart and extend compassion, respect and justice to all people they will interact with in the coming years. May they appreciate the

wisdom of the Dalai Lama when he said "Open your arms to change, but don't let go of yo ur values".

In closing, I offer this prayer for each and every Year 12 student of the graduating class of 2015.

CLC has been such a huge part of our lives for the past six years and, through the people we've met and experiences we've had, it has helped to shape us in to who we are today. The launch of this website and all content featured would not be possible without the hard work of all team members who have chosen to contribute to such a worthy online forum. Throughout my time at Catholic Ladies' thoroughly have I College, enjoyed channelling my creative Adobe making into side pages. This year Photoshop reflects the theme of "Let Our Light Shine", both throughout our actions, thoughts and treatment of others.
